CADELL
“You’re safe,” I said, slowly lowering Evolet into bed. Her hand gripped my shirt tightly, refusing to let go. “Cadell,” she whispered my name softly, lost somewhere in her dream.
I stared at her as I carefully took her hand off me, placing it right on her chest. “I’m still here. Your Cadell will never leave you,” I said, caressing her cheek with a smile.
She felt my touch. I could tell from the way her lips curved into a smile, snuggling her face right in my palm.
But when I recalled the whole scenario that took place this night, I felt upset.
“This is exactly what I was avoiding. You aren’t safe in this place,” I groaned, carefully pulling my hand away and distancing myself from Evolet.
I knew something was wrong when she didn’t return back to the arena. Trent noticed my worry and felt I should check up on Evolet. But before I could leave the seat, I heard her cry through her necklace.
She called out to me, pleading to the Goddess to send me to her rescue!
Quickly, Trent and I left the arena, and I was able to track Evolet to the forest, just in time to save her from that Gamma’s abuse.
But the whole situation escalated into a serious case before I could stop it. That fool broke her necklace, unleashing her beast!
If it wasn’t for me, Evolet would have burnt them all to ashes. Her powers came busting out into a mighty purple ray of light, almost spreading around the forest. I did my best to shield the area, so it wouldn’t go that far into Wolf Fall, otherwise that Sorceress would have felt her energy and raced down to the forest to get Eve.
But despite my effort, my force couldn’t stop her from breaking the barrier placed around the pack. The ray went straight into the sky, and I saw the red shield fading away when it came in contact with Evolet’s power.
“She must have felt it,” I sighed, taking my mind to Sorceress Thelma. “She must have sensed her energy,” I said, looking at Evolet.
I never wanted this for her. Her safety was my responsibility. This is why I wanted us to leave Wolf Fall to a far away land where it would be safer for her. But I had to honor her wish and let her stay, hoping I could prevent that Queen and her Sorceress from getting closer to Eve. But I failed.
That bastard that calls himself a Gamma, tried to get Eve to reveal my hideout. Only for his plan to lead to the one thing that troubles me the most.
If only Evolet knows the danger that awaits her. I don’t know how she’ll feel after all these. Still, I’ll never leave her side. She’s my Evolet, my light.
“Demon Wolf of the dark,” Trent called, referring me to a name that I’ve never heard in a long time.
I turned around and found him staring at me with a smirk, looking pleased with the fact that I responded to the name. “No wonder the name Cadell sounded familiar to me. Cadell, demon wolf of the dark,” he smiled, swaying his head with his hand rubbing his chin.
“I have seen you shift into little Wolfy, but not into a Werewolf. But the moment I laid my eyes on your beast…” he pointed at me, “I realized that the stubborn man I’ve been living with is the same Wolf my father and elders spoke about many years ago. The Dark Blood of the night. The beast who loves the light. He listens to her every words like a man under a spell. He never leaves her side… He’s always with her,” He said, lowering his hand slowly.
“The same Wolf the Werecats of old told great stories about to their younger generation, telling us tales of his greatness and powers. That’s… That’s you, Cadell,” Trent said, drawing closer to me.
I kept my eyes on him, until this Alpha Cat surprised me by going on one knee with his head bowed, saying, “This may feel weird to you since we’ve been together in a short while, fighting like Cat and Dog.”
“Really weird indeed, ” I agreed, feeling uncomfortable.
“But as a man who’s way older than me… I have to show my respect to you,” he said, still keeping his head down.
Seeing this, I felt both pleased and irritated at the same time. “I must say, I love the respect you’re giving to me, but I don’t appreciate the age stuff. You make this handsome devil feel old.”
Yep, that’s my problem.
So what if I’m way older than him? I’m still good looking. Ladies want a piece of me! “Way older than you… Maybe I’ll reject your respect,” I frowned.
That made Trent laugh, as he lifted his head to look at me, smiling.
It felt really weird, but I think I can still manage.
“Same here, Cadell. But it doesn’t change the fact that you’re the man I adore right from my childhood. You saved my life tonight, and I can’t help but show my thanks and appreciation,” He said, rising to his feet and placing his hand on my shoulder.
That’s when he directed his gaze on Evolet and said, “And now I understand why you’re always around her like glue.”
I turned my head over to look at Eve, as she slept in her bed, comfortably.
“She listens to you, and you do the same. When you act wild, she’s always there to stop you. And you did the same tonight. You managed to calm her down,” Trent added.
All what he said got to me. I thought of the things that would have happened if I hadn’t stopped Evolet on time. She even forget her own name due to her power.
It’s just like that night years back.
I don’t want this to ever repeat itself again.
“Will this necklace hold her beast down than the first one?” Trent asked, referring to the new necklace I placed around Evolet.
With a hum, I answered, “Better than the first.”
Taking my mind to the incident at the forest… “I need to move now,” I said, moving closer to the window. “It’s important I eradicate her energy from the forest before that Sorceress gets a hold of it. I know she felt something when the barrier vanished. It won’t take long for her to storm into the forest, looking for a piece of Evolet’s aura to fish her out. I can’t allow it.”
I have worked so hard to protect Eve, and I won’t allow anyone to take her away from me. Not anymore.
“Alright then. You better head there quickly before they do.”
“Sure,” I said, ready to leave. But I stopped.
“Trent.”
“Yeah?” He responded.
Looking at him, I said, “You don’t need to be formal around me. There might be a lot of gap between us, but we are still Evolet’s pet and rivals. In short, Cat and Dog.”
He chuckled out, planting a smile on my face.
“I prefer it that way,” I said, making my request clear. And Trent agreed, nodding to my wish. “Request accepted,” he assured me, raising his arms in the air.
I smiled before dropping my gaze on Evolet, saying to him, “Take care of her. I won’t be long.”
And with speed, I dashed off, heading for the forest to cleanse the area of Evolet’s trail before Queen Chriselda and Sorceress Thelma get hold of it.
If they get a piece of her energy, that might bring a lot of problem to us.
