“I haven’t slept that good in months. That’s why I slept for so long. It felt unreal to be able to sleep that good.” Lily confessed, smiling from ear to ear.
“I’m glad you were able to sleep well, Lily,” Tony said and joined them at the dining table.
“Looks like we’ll be having an early dinner.” He joked, and they all laughed.
The food soon arrived, and Tony requested his share while Rachael decided to keep hers until later as she had just had lunch an hour ago.
“I have to go and pick Daisy up now. I’ll see you when I return, Lily.” Rachael said and excused herself. As soon as she left, Lily turned to Tony.
“Isn’t it too late to pick a child up from school?” Lily asked, and Tony chuckled lightly at her question.
“Schools are on holiday, Lily. Daisy is at her grandparent’s house. She stays there during the day and returns in the evening.” Tony explained, and Lily’s mouth parted slightly as she nodded.
“That makes more sense. I have more questions, but I think It’ll be better to ask Rachael.” She said, and Tony nodded. They both sat in silence and finished their meal.
When Lily saw Tony was done, she decided it was the right time to speak to him.
“Louis has been trying to call me. He left a lot of texts and has called severally.” She reported calmly, and Tony’s expression hardened.
“I guess he has regained consciousness already. I should have hit him harder.” Tony whispered under his breath, but Lily heard him. She lowered her head and smiled, finding his anger funny.
“He’s going to keep trying to contact you, so we need to get you a new phone and number,” Tony said, and she lifted her head immediately.
“I… I can’t afford a new phone right now, Dr- Tony. Maybe after I get my first paycheck, but right now? I can’t.” She revealed with worry on her face.
Lily heard Tony laugh, and when she looked up, he shook his head at her. “Don’t worry about it, Lily. I’ll take a day off tomorrow. You should do the same. We have something important to do.” He said, and Lily’s eyes narrowed.
“Other things? What other things?” She asked, but he waved his hands.
“You’ll find out tomorrow.” That was all he said. Lily shook her head in disagreement.
“I can’t take a day off, Tony.” She had no trouble calling him by his first name now, and she liked it more. “I only started working at the hospital two days ago! I can’t start taking days off! What would everyone think of me?” She complained.
The last thing Lily wanted was to be seen as the girl who wasn’t devoted to her work and ran away at any chance she got. She hadn’t even made friends at the hospital yet. Taking a day off two days after she got the job would ruin her chances of making friends.
“You do realize that I’m the CEO, right?” Tony asked with a smirk, and Lily rolled her eyes.
“That’s a bigger reason I cannot take a day off! What if someone finds out that I am staying at your house? They would conclude that I got this job because of you. No one will trust my knowledge! They won’t believe a word I say, and if I am not careful, I could become an outcast!” By the time Lily finished explaining, she had run out of breath.
“Have some water,” Tony suggested, seeing how ragged her breathing was. “You’re putting too much thought into this, Lily. No one will say anything if you take a day off. You’re not the first employee to take a day off two days after they are employed, believe me.” Tony assured her, but Lily still had her doubts.
“If you’re concerned about your reputation at work, I can assure you that it will remain intact. No one will question your abilities, Lily. Do you understand?” He asked, and Lily sighed. She hesitated for a bit before nodding her head.
“Alright then. Since you have been sleeping most of the day, I know you’ll have a long night. Do you mind taking a tour of the house? Since you’ll be staying here, it’s only right you know your way around.” He offered, and Lily nodded immediately. She would ask him to show her around, but he beat her to it.
“I’d love to.” She smiled widely and grabbed her plates.
“What are you doing?” Tony asked as he saw her pick up his plates. Lily turned to him and raised her brows.
“Picking up the plates so I can do the dishes. Is there a problem?” She asked, wondering why he was looking at her like she was doing something out of the ordinary.
“Oh my God, Lily. We have workers for that. Don’t worry about it.” Tony stood up and took the plates from her hands. He dropped them on the table, grabbed her arm, and pulled her with him.
“Let’s start outside.” He said and led her out the door. She was finally able to get a proper look at the house.
“How long have you been living here?” She asked, and Tony sighed, smiling sadly as he recalled running to Paris to avoid the psychotic Bethany.
“Ten years. I moved in here a few weeks after I returned from New York.” He revealed.
“You must have been wealthy even in New York then.” She was surprised.
If he moved to Paris ten years ago and was already a successful doctor, she wondered how old he was. There was no way he was already a successful doctor as a teenager, so he had to be in his thirties.
Tony’s home was like a modern mansion with many glass windows and a flat roof. It was a two-storey building which had a total of eight rooms
Lily didn’t understand why he needed that many rooms when he only lived with his sister and her daughter.
Maybe one or two rooms for the cleaners, but it still didn’t make sense to her.
A driveway led to the garage, where he kept fourteen cars.
“Wow. You have a lot of money, Dr Martinez.” Her jaw was on the floor as Tony showed off his cars, which were his most prized possessions.
He led her to the back of the house, where there was a covered pool with beach beds around it. “You can use the pool whenever you want. All you have to do is tell the workers to fill it up for you.” He said.
“Let’s go in.” He announced, and Lily turned around to walk back to the front door, but he pulled her back, grabbing her arm softly.
“There’s a back door.” He said, and her lips parted as she nodded quickly. She let him lead the way, and soon, they were in the house again.
Tony showed her around, taking her to every room so she wouldn’t get lost. He finally arrived at his room, which was the last. “This is my room. Feel free to come in whenever.” He said, and Lily’s cheeks reddened.
“I… I don’t think I’d need to come here.” She chuckled, hiding her blush, and Tony shook his head.
“Never say never, Lily. Maybe not now, but I am sure that in a few days, you’ll be walking into this room like it’s yours.” He said confidently.
The thought of sharing rooms with Tony popped into Lily’s mind, and she smiled briefly.
‘It isn’t going to be so bad.’ She thought.
When the house tour ended, it was only a few minutes past six, and Lily wasn’t ready to go to her room. She would have no one to talk to, and she couldn’t switch her phone on since Louis could call anytime.
“I’ll wait for Rachael in the living room.” She announced with an awkward smile. “Thank you for showing me around, Tony. I should leave you alone now. I know you’re a busy man.” Lily said genuinely. She was grateful for his help and would have loved to spend more time with him, but she didn’t want to be a bother to him. With how wealthy he was, she couldn’t imagine the work he had piled up at all times, especially since he still worked at the hospital.
Tony stepped forward, closing their distance. He held her chin and made her look at him.
“I am not too busy for you, Lily.”
