Chapter Two

Later that night, Tony didn’t want to leave Lily’s side. He sat there as she served other people, ensuring she was alright. But, as much as he didn’t want to leave, he had to go.
It was late, and as a doctor, he had to be at the hospital the next day.
Tony stood up to announce to Lily that he would leave, but she was now swamped. Her table had become full, and she could barely converse with him.
She smiled sadly at him and begged him to understand, which he did. He wanted to get her number to keep in touch, but with the crowd of people there, it would be impossible.
So, Tony left the club feeling sad and moody.
“Well, how did it go? I can already tell that you didn’t drink much. I was expecting to bring you a hangover medicine this morning, but I can see that you are perfectly fine. That’s disappointing.” Rachael sighed and sat on his bed. She also noticed that he was disturbed, but, knowing her brother, he would keep his problems to himself.
“I had a good time at the club, but I couldn’t afford to get drunk. I have to be at the hospital this afternoon.” He revealed.
Rachael rounded her mouth and gasped. “How did I forget that?” She chuckled.
“Alright then. I’ll leave you to it.” Rachael said and left the room, giving Tony some time to himself.
A few hours later, Tony was already dressed and leaving the house. As he got in his car, his mind once again drifted off to the girl from the club, and he decided to drive there and ask about her, hoping he could at least get her content.
When he arrived, the club was empty, as expected but, there was one guy around so, he concluded that he was the manager.
“Hey, man.” He greeted as he got in.
“You leave something behind, man?” The dark-skinned man asked, giving off a friendly vibe, one that Tony appreciated.
“Not really. The girl who served yesterday… Lily Arnold. Is there a way I can get her number? Or, the days she comes around? I’m not a pervert, I swear.” Tony chuckled, knowing how stupid he sounded.
“Oh, I know man. You look responsible.” The manager laughed and waved it off.
“I’m sorry, man. Yesterday was Lily’s last day working here. I heard she got a proper Job. Now, I’d give you her number if I could, but it’s against our policy. Sorry, man.” He apologised, and Tony hid the disappointment on his face with a smile.
“It’s alright. I just wanted to check. Thank you.” Tony said and left the club.
Well, he tried, at least.
Trying to push Lily off his mind, he drove to the hospital.
It was his first time in the hospital since returning from New York. Walking back into the hospital, he was shocked to realise that he had missed the environment so much. He never thought he’d do that because his work was stressful but, it was something he loved doing so, he could see why he’d miss it.
“Welcome back, Tony. We’ve missed you.” One of the doctors, Celine, said and hugged him.
“It’s good to have you back. This place has certainly not been the same without you.” She confessed.
“I doubt it. You all look like you’ve been doing great. Makes me sad, you know?” Tony joked, and they both laughed.
“We hired three new nurses in your absence. Two resumed last week, and the last one resumed this morning. It’s good having new faces around.” Celine said and gave Tony more briefing about what had happened in the hospital in his absence.
By the time she was done, it was already three in the afternoon, and Tony decided to walk around the hospital and see how everyone was doing, including his patients whom he had missed so much.
He walked into the offices and greeted them individually.
“Good day, Dr Martinez!” They all echoed as he walked in. He smiled at them and was about to walk away when his eyes caught someone he wasn’t expecting.
“Oh, Dr Martinez, this is the new nurse I told you about, Lily Arnold. She would have come to greet you first, but as you can see, we are still briefing her.” Celine introduced, but Tony couldn’t hear a word she was seeing.
His heart was racing with excitement, and his face was shocked. He was shocked but in a good way.
Lily cleared her throat and straightened her back, hiding the shock and excitement on her face.
“Good day, Dr Martinez. I look forward to working with you.” She held out her hand with a smile on her face. Tony had a smile on his face as he leaned in and took her hand.
God was definitely on his side. Perhaps after he was done with work, he would run to a church and give a special offering because this was a big miracle.
” Welcome to TM hospitals, Miss Arnold. I look forward to working with you, too.”
