Ashely P. O. V.
Once we walked inside my house. I saw my parents and Jayson’s dad, and another woman. I was shocked when I saw a beautiful petite lady with burette hair and a lovely grin.
“Jayson and Ashely, honey, come in and sit down.” I heard my mother say. What is going on? I thought, and when I looked over at Jayson, I didn’t realize he had his hand in mine. I looked down and tried to pull away, but he stopped me by holding it in a place.
“Hey, mom, dad, Mr. Woods, and- I stopped, then I heard the pretty lady with Jayson’s dad sitting down on the couch. She opened her mouth, and I heard her say.
“Linda, Sullivan, hello, Ashely; I heard so much about you, she tells me with a sweet smile on her face.
I look over at Jayson, and his face tells me everything I need to know.
He knows something. So, I am the only one in the dark about what’s going on. So, I don’t know what’s going on?
“Hello, I told them. I told my parents, Mr. Woods, and his lady friend.
I am trying not to look at them because I don’t want my parents and his father to know what we have been doing for the last two days. I have not been home for two days after the fight Jayson was in.
I walked over, and we both sat down on the other side of the living room with the other oversized couch my parents just bought this year.
Once I was comfortable. Yeah, I am still nervous, but I realized I was not in danger and knew I was safe with my parents.
“Ashely, honey, you probably wonder why Jason Woods and Melinda are here at our home,” I heard my mom say.
Yeah, it’s crazy to see her, but not Jayson’s dad. He’s my parent’s friend, and they always hang out on the weekends.
I waited for someone to speak. So, I was staring over at Jayson, and he was not looking my way. He was sitting there staring at the wall. Yep, I knew it. He did know what was going on here. So, he’s trying not to look at me? I am glaring at his head.
What an asshole! What is going on? I repeated it in my mind. That was when I heard a giggle inside my mind. Oh, Envy is back.
“Hey! now, I know you’re bitchy, but it does not mean you can be rude!” I heard Envy tell me. I sighed, apologized to her, and went back to the present with Jayson, my parents, and his dad and friend.
“So, Ashley, Jason here tells me you’ve been a good friend with Jayson here since you were little kids?” I heard the lovely lady say; I looked over at Jayson. I guess he never told his father we were not friends anymore. I need to have a little chat.
“Oh, yes, we have been friends since we were little,” I told her back with a fake smile because one, we had not been friends since seventh grade, and second we lied to our parents for a long time about being friends.
“Oh, that’s great; so, Ashley, any ideas where you want to go to college?” she said, smiling at me. I sucked in my breath because I knew I lied, and I didn’t want them to see my expression when I lied.
They looked right over at me. Oh, God, I need to stop bouncing my knee around. So, I took my hand, stopping from shaking too much. I was nervous and worried my lies would come out, and I never told anybody about the falling out, and the bullying started with Jayson.
“I have a couple of places I want to go, but I have my heart set on New York University, but I would not mean going somewhere overseas. I want to study English Literature and Art History. Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to see them.” So I told her, and my parents and Mr. Woods smiled, knowing that for years. But when I looked over at Jayson, he had a different expression on his face.
But I stared at him for a second.
Sadness.
Loneliness.
Broken.
Happiness.
There were so many emotions written over his face, but then I saw love. Then, he shook his head, went back to his macho tough man, and didn’t show his sad or happy emotions. So, the attitude was back against his comical side.
Why do I feel like this will be the last time I will ever be with him?
And why do I regret signing their applications for out-of-state and overseas?
“Oh, wow, Ashely, That’s wonderful to hear. Jayson, here I heard him say. He got a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, but he got three colleges looking at him.” Isn’t that right, son,”? I heard Mr. Woods say with his friendly smile. He reminds me of Johnny Depp but with short hair and much more extensive and taller.
“Yeah, dad, it is,” Jayson said with a nervous and fake smile. I knew it was fake because I remember his genuine smile when we were younger. But, I missed that smile when he started laughing and smiling at me for the last couple of days when we were together.
” Hot Dog! That’s right! Wow, Notre Dame, wow, Jason, your son got a scholarship to the best football team in the nation.
“Yeah, I am mighty proud of him.” I saw the expression on his face for his son. Proud!
So, yes, I could really see what he had for his son. He always put Jayson first. His mother, on the other hand. I wouldn’t say she will not win the best mom award of the year!
Yeah, boy, I heard our father bragging about Jayson and me. So, I turned them out, seeing my mother talking over to Linda.
“So, Linda, where have you been all my life.” I heard my mom say, laughing. I can see they all getting along with each other.
“Oh, I have been here and there.” She tells my mom with a generous smile. I heard my mom stop and looked at her.
Then, she started busting out laughing.
“Oh, you kill me,” I heard her say, holding her stomach from laughing too hard. So, they stopped, and my mom asked her more questions, and then she asked her if she had any kids.
Linda smiled and said.
“I got a teenage boy, a senior, and he will be going to school with Ashely and Jayson very soon. His name is Max-
I didn’t know why I shivered when I heard her talking about her son.
That was when I had a funny feeling someone was staring at me.
I looked over, and I gasped, and that was when I saw him…
