Two days later…
Lina groggily rubbed her eyes with the back of her hands as she descended from the fleet of stairs in front of her. It was already half past two in the afternoon.
“How was your rest, Lina? Has your headache subsided?” Butler Jenkins face was filled with concern as he walked up to Lina, who halted in her movements for a second due to Butler Jenkins sudden presence.
She had returned to the mansion the same day Ashley had made the headlines. She was very happy to come back, after the issue that was causing a misunderstanding between her and her husband had been cleared. But her happiness didn’t last long, because Raymond had not come back for the past two days she had been here. He wasn’t picking up her calls either. It was like he was angry with her or something.
She had been restless for the past forty-eight hours. Yesterday evening, she had seen Jenkins talking to Raymond on the phone. She rushed forward to take the phone from Jenkins. As Raymond heard her voice from the other end, he immediately hung up the phone.
That was when it dawned on her that he was avoiding her. She had been so depressed for the past few hours that she developed a headache. After getting some pain relief medicine from Jenkins, she immediately fell asleep.
“I’m feeling better, Jenkins. Did Raymond call today?” Lina’s voice was low, her complexion wasn’t looking good. She tried hiding her pain from Jenkins, but his old eyes still caught her almost lifeless eyes. Jenkins doesn’t know what happened between his boss and his wife. After Ashley’s scandal was released two days ago, and his boss name was cleared, he was so happy that finally, his boss’ wife would come back home, making the house feel homely.
Who knew that his boss would also start throwing tantrums by staying at his office for the past two days.
Jenkins couldn’t help sighing. He just hoped his childish young master would come back to his senses soon. Though he hadn’t seen Raymond act this way before, he believed that Raymond was up to something.
Why would someone who had been in a bad mood because his wife was having a fight with him, and angrily left home, not be happy that she was finally back. He was very sure that Raymond was planning something big.
“Yes, Lina. He told me he won’t be coming home for the next few days. He is busy.” Lina gritted her teeth in anger, thinking about how far Raymond could go. Couldn’t he just come home and let them settle their differences, why torture her like this.
Not able to take it anymore, Lina turned around and ran upstairs. She was done playing the good wife, who obediently stayed at home, patiently waiting for her sulking husband’s arrival. “Prepare the car, Jenkins. I’m going to bring him back home.” Lina ran the fleet of stairs, taking two steps at once.
“Right away, Lina.” Butler Jenkin smiled happily, his old face wrinkling at the corner. “Finally, the young master met his match. I hope Lina will be able to bring him back home. I can’t endure looking at her sad face anymore.” Jenkins thought out loud as he walked out of the mansion, going to personally inform the driver to prepare the car.
Few minutes later, Lina came downstairs, putting on a blue off shoulder knee length gown, pairing it with silver sandal heels. Her face was painted with a slight makeup that blended perfectly with her face. She held a tiny purse in between her fingers. Just as she walks down the last stair, Butler Jenkins steps forward.
“The car is ready, Lina, this way ma’am.” Jenkins teasingly said, trying to help Lina relax her tensed shoulders. This was the first time she would be going to Raymond’s company as his wife, so it’s normal to be nervous.
Lina gave Jenkins a small smile, understanding his hidden meaning. Since she had entered the mansion as Raymond’s wife, Jenkins and the other staff had been nice to her. None of them had once disrespected her. She was very grateful to have Jenkins by her side.
Lina took tiny steps out of the mansion, making her way to the luxurious parking lot, filled up with a different fleet of cars. No matter when she came here, she always sighed at how good it was to be as rich as Raymond.
She wouldn’t blame Ashley for wanting to get Raymond back. Which woman doesn’t want to enjoy all this luxury? Too bad, Raymond is hers. She would never let any bitch to snatch him away.
“Drive carefully, James.” Butler Jenkins warned Lina’s driver in a cold tone, which was different from the gentle one he spoke to Lina with, after Lina was seated at the back seat of the blue Rolls-Royce. The driver nodded politely, before driving out of the parking lot, making his way to World-Glow enterprise.
Lina was very nervous as the car drove through the bustling streets of Manhattan. The street where the World-Glow enterprise was situated was the most popular and expensive business street in New York. This street was where all different tall buildings of different companies were located. The richest men of New York can be found all over the place.
As a student of business administration, Lina had also dreamt of working for one of these companies if her father wouldn’t allow her to work in his company. Who knew that what fate had installed for her was different. Not only would she be able to work here if she wanted, her husband was also the owner of the busiest and tallest office building on this street.
“We are here Ma’am,” James informed Lina after he drove her to the front of World-Glow enterprise. Lina snapped out of her daze, her head turning sideways to look at the giant building in front of her.
She had passed here many times, but she had never for once stepped into the company since she doesn’t have any business there. She still finds it hard to believe that she was the lady boss of the place.
Looking at the time on her wristwatch, Lina nodded her head in satisfaction. It was already half past four. The drive from the mansion to Raymond’s company was just forty-five minutes. In the next thirty minutes, workers would start getting off work.
Taking a deep breath, Lina stepped out of the already opened car door. James immediately jammed the door after Lina stepped out. The cool evening breeze blew Lina’s brown hair that casually draped on her shoulder, making heads turn over.
“Don’t wait for me, I will be coming back with Raymond.” Lina informed the driver before taking out her black glasses from her purse, putting it on to add a final sophistication to her appearance. Lina could feel the different gazes casted on her.
She was slightly nervous that she almost turned around and fled. But thinking about how her husband had been giving her the cold treatment, she couldn’t care less. She must see Raymond today whether he likes it on not.
Lina confidently walked into the building, not forgetting to admire the exterior designs of the giant building. As she reached the reception, she was greeted with the sight of five beautiful women, seated behind their desks. They were receiving visitors with a polite smile on their faces.
Lina heels clicked on the tile floor as she walked up to one of the receptionists. She could see the awed look on the receptionist’s face as she saw her. She gave her a small smile before opening her mouth.
“Hi, I’m here to see President Raymond, can you direct me to his office please?” Lina casually said, trying to sound formal. She just couldn’t carelessly say she was here for her husband.
“Did you have any appointment with president Raymond?” The receptionist politely answered, trying as much as possible not to sound rude. It was known in the company that no woman except Raymond’s mom and sister were the only women allowed to see Raymond. The receptionist thought Lina was one of those women who wanted to get entangled with Raymond.
Though the receptionist tried as much as possible to hide the disgust in her face, Lina still saw it. Will it not be possible for her to see Raymond today? He wasn’t picking up her calls, and she had came here without any invitation. How would she go in there to see him? Lina brow furrowed as she tried to think about how to convince the receptionist to make her see Raymond.
As Lina was about to reply the receptionist, she sighted a familiar figure from the corner of her eyes. She hadn’t felt as happy as she was at the moment for the past two days. She immediately ran towards the figure that was waiting for the elevator.
“Hey, Miss, you can’t go in there without appointment. What are you doing?” The receptionist was puzzled by Lina’s behavior. How could she just randomly run towards the elevator just like that. If she successfully made her way there, there is no way she wouldn’t lose her job, and she can’t afford losing her good paying job.
Lina didn’t answer her. She was too desperate to see Raymond that she wasn’t afraid to cause a nuisance and embarrass herself. Assistant Lucas, who was about to board the elevator, heard the commotion. He turned around to see a woman running towards him. He was slightly shocked. When was the last time a woman went crazy like this in here?
Just as he was about to call the security to throw the woman out, he saw Lina’s familiar figure. He was so shocked that he dropped the files he was holding. Why was she here? Lucas questioned himself as Lina ran towards him, breathing heavily.
“Assistant Lucas, it’s nice to see you again. How are you?” Lina said as she caught her breath, her face flushed.
“Madam, why are you here? Did the president know you are coming?” Lucas asked absentmindedly, not expecting Lina’s sudden arrival. Lina had never been here before. His shocked expression was justified.
“Hey, I told you that you can’t go in there without an appointment. What’s wrong with you?” The receptionist caught up with Lina before she could reply Lucas.
“Assistant Lucas?” The receptionist was surprised to see the formidable assistant Lucas. Her body started trembling as she thought about how Lina would make her lose the job she had painstakingly strived to get. She couldn’t help glaring at her with a hatred filled face.
“You can go back to your post. She is coming with me.” Assistant Lucas picked up the files he dropped earlier, before directing Lina into the elevator, leaving the dumbfounded receptionist behind.
