After the word father left Lina’s mouth, everything went blank making Raymond panic. “Lina!!” He shook her gently as he patted her cheeks, “Wake up Lina.”
Seeing the unresponsive Lina, Raymond pressed the bell beside her bed. Not long after, a nurse rushed in. “What’s wrong with her sir.” The female nurse asked as she walked over to check on Lina.
“Call Dylan,” Raymond said, his voice clipped and low. His eyes, however, betrayed a flicker of alarm, and his fingers tightened around Lina’s hand like a vice. “Now.”
The nurse quickly pulled out her phone and dialed a number. “Yes, Doctor Dylan. We need you in room 304 immediately. It’s patient Lina.” She listened for a moment before hanging up. “He’s on his way, sir.”
Raymond nodded, his eyes fixed anxiously on Lina’s pale face. He took her hand in his, feeling a surge of fear at her limpness. What was happening to her? They were sleeping with her in his arms just now and what does she mean he is coming for her? Well, that’s not his priority now. All he cares for now is for Lina to wake up and be normal again.
The nurse checked Lina’s vitals, her expression growing increasingly concerned. “Sir, I think we should get her hooked up to the monitors again. Her heart rate is dropping.”
Raymond’s grip on Lina’s hand tightened. “Do it,” he said, his voice low and urgent. “Do whatever it takes to make sure nothing happens to her.
Not long after she was hooked to the monitors, Dylan rushed in. “What happened to her?” He questioned as he rushed towards Lina.
“I don’t know. She was sleeping soundly in my arms just now and unexpectedly she was thrashing about. I thought she was dreaming at first. Though she was conscious after that, she suddenly went limp all of a sudden.” Raymond explained to Dylan, not hiding any details.
Dylan’s eyes narrowed as he listened to Raymond’s explanation. He immediately began examining Lina, his hands moving swiftly and surely over her body. He checked her heartbeat with the stethoscope wrapped around his neck. “Did she say anything before she went limp?” he asked, his voice focused.
Raymond’s eyes clouded over, his brow furrowing. “She said… she said ‘father’.” His voice trailed off, his eyes fixed on Lina’s pale face.
Dylan’s expression turned thoughtful, his eyes narrowing as he considered this new information. “I see,” he murmured. “We’ll need to run some tests to figure out what’s going on.” He turned to the nurse. “Get me an EEG right away, she will be transferred to the radiology department after the EEG test.”
The nurse nodded and quickly hurried out of the room to carry out Dylan’s orders. Raymond watched her go, his eyes still fixed on Lina’s face. He felt a surge of fear and anxiety, his mind racing with worst-case scenarios.
Dylan’s voice cut through his thoughts. “Raymond, I need you to stay calm. We’ll figure out what’s going on with Lina, I promise.”
Raymond nodded, his jaw clenched. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing thoughts. But his gaze never left Lina’s complexion, his heart aching with worry and fear. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of the beeping machines.
The nurse came back after some minutes with another nurse trailing behind her, helping her with the EEG.
The nurses quickly set up the EEG equipment, attaching sensors to Lina’s scalp and connecting them to the machine. Dylan watched as the nurses worked, his eyes fixed on the readouts on the machine.
“Okay, let’s take a look,” Dylan said, his voice calm and professional. He studied the readouts on the EEG machine, his expression growing more serious by the second.
Raymond felt a surge of anxiety as he watched Dylan’s expression. “What is it?” he asked his voice tight with worry.
Dylan hesitated, his eyes flicking to Lina’s pale complexion before returning to the EEG readouts. “We need to get her to the radiology department, now,” he said, his voice firm and urgent.
The nurses quickly disconnected the EEG equipment and began to transfer Lina to a gurney. Raymond watched, feeling helpless and scared, as they wheeled Lina out of the room and towards the radiology department.
As Raymond rushed after the nurses pushing Lina, he was suddenly stopped midway. “Get the hell out of the way.” His voice cut through the air, sending shivers down the intruder’s spine.
I’m sorry young master, but your grandfather wanted to see you.” Raymond’s grandfather P. A who blocked his way earlier informed Raymond respectfully.
“I’m busy right now, tell him I will see him immediately after I’m done.” At this time, Lina had been wheeled into the radiography department. As Raymond took a step forward, Assistant Jeff spoke urgently, “He said if you don’t come to see him immediately, Miss Lina’s treatment will be stopped.”
“I dare him to try it!” A fierce battle cry erupted from Raymond’s throat, echoing off the walls as he took a menacing step forward. Though Raymond respected his grandfather, he wouldn’t watch him interrupt Lina’s recovery without putting up a fight.
“Then you have to see him immediately, young master. You know what he is capable of.” Assistant Jeff voiced out, his eyes locked on Raymond. Though he was also scared of the ruthless CEO Raymond, staying by his grandfather’s side who was the one that taught Raymond all he knew today makes Jeff bold enough to be able to stand the murderous aura emitting from Raymond.
“Lead the way.” For Lina’s treatment, Raymond compromised. He could trust Lina with Dylan so he wasn’t that worried about her safety.
“Raymond, what happened to Lina again? I heard she was wheeled out of her ward just now.” Ria, who went home earlier to prepare a light dish for her best friend was fidgeting, her hand clenched tightly on the lunch pack she was holding. Seeing Ria, and knowing of Lina’s trust and friendship with her, Raymond didn’t hesitate to inform her about all that happened earlier.
“Please stay with Lina for me, I will be right back.” Raymond’s gaze was filled with a pleading look. His eyes locked onto Ria’s, his pupils wide with desperation, his eyebrows furrowed in silent supplication.
“I will surely look after her. You can go do whatever you want.” Ria reassures before Raymond walks away. If she hadn’t seen how Raymond was devastated because of Lina’s hospitalization some days ago, she would have thought he didn’t care for her. But no one in their right senses would see all the tantrums Raymond threw due to Lina not waking up earlier, doubting his feelings, and caring for Lina.
Ria rushed to the radiology department after her encounter with Raymond. All she cares about right now is how Lina will get well soon. She wouldn’t forgive those bastards for doing this to Lina.
