A debt of blood

The mansion was lively as Aurora, Damian, Luna, and Raphael walked through the grand doors. The maids were lined up, smiling and eager to welcome them back. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to see Aurora and the baby safe. Some whispered excitedly among themselves, while others simply looked on with joy.
“Welcome back, Mrs. Wolfe!” Madam Catherine said warmly, stepping forward to greet Aurora. “And congratulations on your beautiful baby.”
Aurora smiled, though her body still felt weak. “Thank you,” she said softly, leaning into Damian for support.
Luna stood beside her, cradling the baby in her arms. The little girl was fast asleep, her tiny face peaceful. “Look at everyone,” Luna said, smiling brightly. “They’re all so happy for you, Aurora.”
Damian gave a small nod, his eyes scanning the crowd. “They better be,” he said, his tone protective but light.
Suddenly, Damian bent down and scooped Aurora into his arms, causing her to gasp in surprise. “Damian!” she exclaimed, her cheeks turning red. “What are you doing?”
“You’ve been through enough,” he said firmly, a soft smile tugging at his lips. “You’re not walking anywhere. I’m carrying you.”
Luna laughed softly at the sight. “You two are adorable,” she said, glancing down at the baby. “Don’t you think so?” she whispered to the little one.
As Damian carried Aurora upstairs, the maids clapped quietly, their smiles wide. Raphael lingered behind, his expression distant. His mind wasn’t on the happiness around him-it was on the note he had received about the money. The threat was clear in his mind, and the weight of his Mafia dealings pressed heavily on his shoulders.
Damian pushed the door to their bedroom open and walked inside, still holding Aurora as if she weighed nothing. He laid her down gently on the bed, brushing a strand of hair away from her face.
“You’re spoiling me,” Aurora said with a soft chuckle.
“You deserve it,” Damian replied, his voice low and filled with affection. He kissed her forehead, then sat down beside her, his hand resting on hers.
Luna entered a moment later, still holding the baby. She walked over and placed the little one in the crib that had already been set up in the corner of the room. “She’s still fast asleep,” Luna said, her voice soft. “I think she likes her new home.”
Aurora smiled, her eyes warm. “Thank you, Luna. For everything.”
Luna shook her head. “You don’t need to thank me, Aurora. You know I’d do anything for you.”
As Luna left the room to give them privacy, Damian’s expression turned serious. He reached out and took Aurora’s hand, his thumb brushing gently over her skin.
“Aurora,” he began, his voice hesitant, “there’s something I need to tell you.”
Aurora tilted her head, her brows knitting together. “What is it?” she asked.
Damian took a deep breath. “When you were in labor, you lost a lot of blood. It was critical. My blood wasn’t a match, and I had no other option… I had to call your father.”
Aurora’s eyes widened in shock. “My father?” she repeated, disbelief clear in her tone. “He… he donated his blood?”
Damian nodded. “Yes. It was the only way to save you.”
Aurora stared at him, her emotions a whirlwind. “I can’t believe it,” she said softly. “He helped me. After all this time…”
Damian squeezed her hand. “I know it’s a lot to process,” he said gently. “But there’s more. When I called him, he agreed to help, but on one condition.”
Aurora’s heart sank slightly. “What condition?” she asked, her voice cautious.
Damian hesitated before answering. “He said that once you’re strong enough, I have to hand you over to him. That was his demand.”
Aurora’s lips parted in surprise, her breath catching. “Hand me over?” she repeated, her voice trembling. “What does that even mean?”
Damian’s jaw tightened. “I don’t know exactly,” he admitted. “But I didn’t have a choice. If I refused, he might not have donated his blood, and I… I couldn’t risk losing you.”
Aurora’s eyes filled with tears, but she quickly wiped them away. “You did what you had to do,” she said, her voice steady despite the emotions swirling inside her.
She looked down at their joined hands, her mind racing. “Damian,” she said after a moment, “I want to meet him. When I’m better, I want to see him and hear what he has to say.”
Damian’s gaze softened as he nodded. “If that’s what you want, I’ll arrange it,” he said. “But don’t rush yourself, Aurora. You need to recover first.”
Aurora gave him a small smile. “Thank you,” she said quietly. “For always putting me and our baby first.”
Damian leaned forward, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “You’re my everything,” he said simply.
Aurora’s eyes fluttered closed, her body relaxing against the bed. Though the revelation about her father weighed on her, she felt a sense of peace knowing Damian was by her side. Together, they would face whatever came next.
