As soon as she was back at the general manager’s office, Areli’s tears finally streamed down her cheeks.
The emotions she had been trying so hard to control poured out like an avalanche.
She thought she would never feel heartache again, but now it surged uncontrollably in her chest.
Growing up in an orphanage and experiencing the harshness of the world, she had become a strong woman who had seen enough of love and separation. She always believed that she would never fall in love again, but now someone had captured her heart.
She kicked off her high heels, threw away the documents in her hand, poured herself a cup of coffee, and drank it down with her tears.
She poured another cup and drank it all again. The coffee no longer tasted as sweet and mellow as it used to, only endlessly bitter.
“Why do you think I don’t trust you? After everything we’ve been through, how could I not know that you are the most reliable?”
“No matter how beautiful or charming Paige is, how could you not resist the temptation?”
“You should know that I am just angry and jealous, upset that you don’t value me.”
“Why would you rather leave than let me know the details of your meeting with Paige?”
“Darnell, what should I do? I have fallen in love with you, but how can I tell you?”
Her tears soon dried up. After drinking seven cups of coffee, Areli lifted her head again, her eyes cold and emotionless.
At that moment, Areli’s phone rang. She put on her headset to answer it and soon heard an excited voice. “G3O2O1D!”
Areli was first stunned, then delighted.
At the same time, at the headquarters of the Axe.
This was an extremely luxurious seven-story building. The first three floors were for offices, the second, fourth, and sixth floors were residential areas, and the seventh floor was where the leader of the Axe, known as Rex Wallis, resided.
The place was heavily guarded and tightly secured.
Rex was a tall man standing six feet tall with thick eyebrows and large eyes. He had a dignified appearance.
When he was in a good mood, he would smile like an ordinary person, pat your shoulder, and share jokes he found amusing online.
But when he was angry, he became unlike anyone you have ever known.
His usually rosy face would suddenly turn into that of a hungry and furious lion.
His eyes would emit a fierce lion-like glare, ready to grab anyone who angered him and tear them to pieces before swallowing them bit by bit.
At this moment, he looked exactly like that.
His face was twisted with rage, exuding a murderous aura. His forehead veins bulged out as his eyes glared fiercely with bloodshot intensity. He looked terrifying.
Yes, in Whiteville’s underworld gangs, Rex was inherently evil.
The dozens of key members standing around the room were all frightened by Rex’s violent aura and remained silent.
Because now was one of those times when Rex was furious.
With broken legs and severe injuries, the big-nosed man knelt trembling before him.
This villain who once oppressed the Chavez siblings now seemed to have suddenly turned into a lamb too scared to breathe.
Rex glared at him with bloodshot eyes and bared his teeth menacingly. “Was it Darnell who attacked you again?”
The big-nosed man replied, “Yes.”
Rex laughed: “You said he is a salesman for Spectrum Pharmaceuticals?”
The big-nosed man nodded again. “Yes.”
Rex laughed again, “And that’s all you know about him.”
The big-nosed man lowered his head even further. “Yes.”
Rex growled like an angry lion. “That bastard took out over ten of Peter’s men, and you don’t even know his background?”
He asked another question, “Who killed Samuel?”
The big-nosed man looked dejected. “I don’t know.”
He really didn’t know how Samuel died. He only knew that after sleeping for a while, Samuel was dead when he woke up.
“You don’t know anything yet dare come see me? Why don’t you just die?”
Rex suddenly jumped from his chair and rushed over to grab the big-nosed man by his collar, tearing it apart in one swift motion.
Then he mercilessly slapped the big-nosed man seventeen or eighteen times.
The big-nosed man’s mouth corner bled continuously from the beating but showed no signs of anger or pain on his face.
Instead of feeling resentful or hurt by this treatment from Rex, he felt relieved because he knew that if Rex beat him fiercely, it meant he still considered him one of his own people, if treated politely instead, he wouldn’t leave this room alive today,
After delivering seventeen or eighteen slaps, Rex stomped on the big-nosed man’s stomach.
Despite being covered in blood, and drenched in cold sweat, the big-nosed man obediently knelt there without daring to move.
Finally taking a breath, Rex stopped beating the big-nosed man, he turned around kicking over a table.
“Who did this? Who the hell did this?”
“I know! It must be someone from the Apex! I’ll make sure they die without a complete corpse!”
Over two hundred elite members were shot dead by police during Genesis House battle, with Samson receiving dozens of bullets.
Just one week later, Samuel was also stabbed dead at the hospital, the Axe members were furious, wishing they could dismember the killer into pieces.
Compared to exaggerated youth, only two people remained calm within the room.
A young woman dressed in red sat quietly in a shadowy corner, around twenty years old, not tall, with a thin build.
She gave off an unremarkable impression, but her face remained calm, with half-closed eyes appearing asleep yet awake.
However, her entire being exuded an indescribable coldness and killing intent, like the hidden knife within her hand, making others shiver.
Other gang members kept their distance as if something terrifying surrounded her.
Though seated inconspicuously, not drawing attention, she observed everything happening inside the hall.
This woman was none other than Rex’s personal bodyguard, Kimberly, a ruthless killer whose blade always drew blood.
Another person stood behind Crow, the Axe’s strategist, Valentin, but his calmness seemed feigned.
At this moment, he cautiously spoke,
“Boss, we shouldn’t act rashly. You can’t just assume it’s Apex who did this.”
Valentin had a thin build, with a round face and thick lips, giving an honest appearance.
Valentin could be considered one of Rex’s long-time brothers and a founding member of the Axe, having fought alongside Rex in Whiteville.
He was the kind of steady, honest man without much ambition or desire, though he did have a penchant for wealth and women, which earned him Rex’s trust.
Valentin was also the only person who dared to remind Rex when he was furious.
“Are you an idiot?”
Rex glared at Valentin, frustrated and disappointed. “The Apex just clashed with Samuel, and Samuel was assassinated in the hospital. Who else could it be if not the Apex?”
Valentin’s lips twitched slightly. “Luca and Callum wouldn’t have the guts for that, would they? What do they have to fight us with?”
“The Apex can’t even take down Woodsea. Starting a war with us would be nothing but suicide.”
He spoke softly, trying to advise Rex, “Boss, this is a turbulent time. We can’t act impulsively.”
While Valentin thought that Callum and the others going to war with Samuel was indeed a bold move, he still didn’t believe the Apex had the guts to commit murder.
“The Apex would dare to eliminate Peter. What wouldn’t they do?”
Rex snorted, “Luca wants to start a war with us because he can’t take Woodsea and is worried about his own people, trying to redirect their internal conflicts.”
“Going after Peter was the trigger. The fight at the club was just provoking us. Killing Samuel means they’re declaring full-scale war.”
Valentin was momentarily taken aback. “Isn’t the man called Darnell injured Peter…”
Realizing Rex’s gaze had sharpened, Valentin quickly changed the subject. “What you say makes sense. If the Apex would dare to take out Peter, what wouldn’t they do?”
In that instant, he understood Rex’s intentions-to shift the blame onto the Apex and let the Blades go head-to-head with them, while he reaped the benefits.
“Get Luca to issue an ultimatum immediately.”
Rex pointed decisively. “Tell them to hand over the murderer within three days and pay me three hundred million, or I’ll wipe out the Apex.”
After Valentin quickly arranged for his trusted men to handle the matter, Rex pulled out a map, pointing to over twenty important territories of the Apex, outlining the tasks for the impending war, and vowing to take out the Apex in one fell swoop.
Once the various leaders had been given their orders and left, Rex kept Valentin and Kimberly behind.
“I received word from the police that Samuel was actually killed by Seven Wolves.”
“Damn it! After coming after Houston, they’re now targeting the Axe? These foreigners don’t even realize whose territory they’re stepping into!”
Rex snorted, “You need to dispatch men to find that scum and chop him to pieces.”
“Kimberly, you’re joining this battle as well.”
