Chapter 184: A Slap in the Face

Book:Fist of Healing Published:2025-2-8

Director of the sales department? Security consultant? That meant this man was essentially just a salesperson and a security guard!
As Darnell put on a smug expression, Lisa’s face showed a mocking smile, her laughter piercing.
They imagined a picture in their minds-Darnell running business during the day and working as a security guard in the slums at night, a complete loser.
They never expected Darnell to have such a background. He said he would scare them to death, but instead, he made them laugh to death.
After laughing, the eyes of more than ten people began to show disdain.
They wished they could stomp on Darnell, who dared to snatch Karlee away, right there and then, making him realize how far he was from their circle.
Karlee suddenly became quiet. She neither stood up for Darnell nor got angry, leisurely sipping a glass of red wine.
Jefferson patted Darnell’s shoulder, almost spilling his drink. “Mr. Halford, you are indeed impressive. Among the people I’ve met, you are the most impressive.”
He gave a thumbs-up and waved it in front of Darnell. “No one else comes close.”
Darnell waved his hand, laughing, “You’re flattering me, Jefferson.”
Lisa also laughed while holding Karlee’s hand. “Karlee, is he really a security guard and a salesperson?”
Karlee remained calm. “Yes, he does business and security work. But he doesn’t steal or rob. What’s so funny about that?”
“No one said he steals or robs.”
Lisa was increasingly convinced that Darnell was dragged into this by Karlee. “But Karlee, do you think he fits into our circle?”
She pointed at the drinks on the table. “Any bottle of wine, a pack of cigarettes, or even a bag of candy here is worth more than his meager monthly salary that he works so hard for.”
Her meaning was clear, and everyone in the hall had playful smiles.
As they looked at Darnell’s cheap outfit again, their initial curiosity turned into contempt and disdain.
A long-faced young man named Shawn patted Darnell’s shoulder with a smile. “You’re Karlee’s friend, so you’re my friend too. If you need to borrow money or find a job in the future, just come to me.”
Darnell was overjoyed and immediately extended his hand. “Really? Is there a job with a monthly salary of ten thousand dollars, not much work, and beautiful women around?”
Shawn’s expression froze instantly and then he sneered. “You have quite an appetite. Fine, forget I mentioned the job.”
“But if you ever run out of money for food, you can come to me. I can buy you dinner.”
Before Karlee could respond, Darnell proudly said, “Run out of money for food? I have plenty of money for food.”
Lisa sneered, “Plenty of money? How much money do you have? This is your first time in this club, isn’t it?”
“Don’t you think this club is not suitable for you?”
Darnell nodded. “Indeed, it’s a bit low-class.”
Poof!
Lisa and the others almost spat out their drinks. “Low-class?”
Karlee also smiled bitterly and then picked up a glass of wine to cover her reaction.
Thud!
Lisa took out a membership card-a gold card and slapped it on the coffee table. “Do you know how much it costs to get a membership card here?”
Darnell shook his head. “No idea.”
Lisa snorted contemptuously. “One million dollars!”
Darnell looked shocked. “What? That expensive?”
He quickly called over a waiter to open a bottle of red wine worth over three thousand dollars and took several gulps to calm himself down.
The two waiters smiled while pouring wine but looked at Darnell with disdain.
Lisa looked at him with contempt and then snorted again. “Now you know it’s expensive? So this place is not suitable for you. Do you understand what I mean?”
More than ten people all smiled meaningfully. Karlee didn’t stop them. Instead of defending Darnell, she wanted to see how he would handle it.
After all, such scenarios were likely to happen often in the future.
Darnell looked confused. “I don’t understand. If you can come here, why can’t I?”
Lisa laughed angrily. “You are not from our world.”
“Not from your world?”
Darnell looked at Lisa. “What do you mean? You mean, you’re a ghost?”
Lisa almost fainted in anger while Karlee covered her mouth laughing. Shawn and others felt even more disdainful, thinking Darnell was playing dumb.
“I just don’t see if you can come here, why can’t I? Just because I don’t have this card?”
Lisa slapped the table again. “Exactly!”
Darnell picked up Vantage’s membership card and looked at it before putting it back on the table. “I also have such a card. It’s just a different color.”
Hearing this made everyone laugh again. Clearly, they didn’t believe Darnell could have such a card.
Lisa’s eyes were full of contempt. “Really? Show us then? Even an ordinary card will do. Show us.”
“If you can take out any card from this club, I’ll give you this card of mine.”
She was sure Darnell couldn’t even afford an ordinary card.
Karlee spoke up timely, “Alright, stop messing around. We’re friends…”
“Does this card count?”
Before she could finish speaking, Darnell pulled out a card given by Chandler, the only three supreme cards from Vantage.
The two waiters who had been disdainful immediately knelt down with surprise.
“A supreme card? This is a supreme card!”
The laughter stopped abruptly.
Vantage had four types of cards-ordinary cards, silver cards, gold cards, and supreme cards, each providing corresponding services and discounts.
Each type had different fees-ordinary cards cost ten thousand dollars annually, silver cards fifty thousand, and gold cards one hundred thousand. However, supreme cards had no fee requirements.
Because they weren’t distributed publicly, only three existed, all given by Vantage’s owner personally.
Supreme cardholders enjoyed free food and entertainment with top-notch service.
Rumor had it that supreme cards were worth no less than ten million dollars annually.
Chandler gave this card to Darnell under Theresa Bedwell’s instruction.
Regardless of their purpose though, Darnell now was the cardholder. This card was a slap in the face to Lisa and others.
“Impossible! Absolutely impossible!”
Lisa grabbed the supreme card as she asked incredulously, “How could you have such a card? This must be a fake bought online, or else you picked it up from someone on the road!”
She handed it over to two waiters. “Check if it’s fake.”
The waiters’ mouths twitched as they carefully examined it before shaking their heads together. “It’s real.”
Though only three existed, they were trained rigorously enough to recognize authenticity easily.
“Then he must pick it up from the original owner of the card.”
Lisa firmly concluded, “Darnell, you’re so unethical, not returning what isn’t yours, bringing shame upon Karlee.”
She turned towards Karlee, shouting, “Karlee, this guy lacks integrity. Stay away from him.”
As Karlee’s eyes narrowed slightly, she pointed at two waiters, ordering, “Verify who owns this supreme card immediately.”
The waiters called reception for verification, and three minutes later, one weakly announced, “This card’s owner was Darnell Halford, and the registered phone number is…”
Lisa dialed the number, and moments later, Darnell’s phone rang.
Darnell hung up directly, looking displeased: “Are you satisfied now?”
Everyone was thunderstruck.
