Chapter 178: Unintentional Offense

Book:Fist of Healing Published:2025-2-8

Today was destined to be a happy day for Darnell.
He had secured his position as the head of the sales department, become the security consultant for Woodsea, reconciled with the Apex, and officially launched Darnell’s Elite Force. It was a day of quadruple joy.
Because of these joyous events, Darnell drank heartily at the banquet, downing dozens of beers with Noemi and Luca.
Darnell then drank with Callum and Garrett. He even treated the wounds on Callum’s head.
Callum was grateful to Darnell. All grudges were gone.
The banquet lasted until eight in the evening, with over five hundred people getting drunk.
After sending off the Apex, Darnell returned to his rented house with Lillian’s support, smiling all the way.
Lillian placed him on the sofa and fetched a towel to wipe him down. Seeing the wounds left from fights on his body, she walked towards the door with concern on her face.
“I’ll get some medicine to treat your wounds.”
Darnell smiled and said, “No need. These are from yesterday’s fight. They’ve already been treated and are healing.”
Lillian huffed softly, “I say you need treatment. Wait here. I’ll be right back.”
Darnell called out, “Is it necessary? You warming the bed is the best cure.”
“You rascal.”
Lillian made a face at Darnell before running off.
Darnell smiled helplessly, shaking his groggy head. He got up and walked to the fridge, pulling out another bottle of red wine.
He was thirsty and tired, so he took a swig of the wine before walking to the bedroom window to look at the brightly lit Woodsea.
Despite drinking a lot tonight, Darnell didn’t feel drunk. His vision was just a bit blurry. He tore off his red shirt and swayed slightly.
Leaning against the window, he saw fireworks in the distant dark sky. They burst brilliantly before fading into an extreme coldness.
Wendy, Selina, Areli, Abbigail, and Casey…
One by one, women from afar or nearby became vividly alive in his mind, impacting Darnell’s nerves.
The life of someone walking in the underworld was like fireworks! They bloomed brilliantly and fell just as quickly!
For a moment, Darnell was filled with emotions.
Then a figure in white drifted through his mind but was soon torn apart by zombies. He wanted to save her but was powerless.
This gave him a splitting headache and a look of sorrow. “Roselyn…”
He reached out instinctively but grasped only air.
“Darnell, why are you still drinking?!”
At some point, Lillian had come up behind Darnell. Her footsteps were as light. She spoke with a hint of displeasure, “You’ll really get drunk if you keep drinking.”
“Come to the living room so that I can treat your wounds. Look at you. So many scars. It’s frightening.”
In Lillian’s eyes, Darnell, bare-chested and facing away from her, was a blend of hero and devil.
But this mysterious aura around Darnell made him more compelling to Lillian despite her heavy heart.
Darnell turned around. In the dim light, he thought he saw the figure in white coming towards him from afar.
Her smile was like a blooming flower. Her eyes sparkled beautifully.
Lillian had changed out of her wine-scented clothes into a knitted white sweater that made her look delicate, pure, and cool.
In this nighttime scene, Lillian presented Darnell with a picturesque view that felt dreamlike.
Darnell’s sorrowful eyes froze for a moment. Roselyn? How could it be her? How could she still be alive?
He took a step forward but stumbled slightly.
Lillian instinctively reached out to support him but ended up being held tightly by Darnell instead.
Lillian’s body stiffened, and she wanted to struggle but found herself held firmly by Darnell’s strong arms.
The strong scent of alcohol, blood, and masculinity from Darnell enveloped Lillian, making her both panicked and confused.
She wanted to shout but didn’t know what to say. She was already familiar with Darnell’s flirtations and enjoyed their playful banter to some extent.
“He is just taking advantage of me while drunk. He wouldn’t dare do anything serious,” she reassured herself internally. Her feelings were conflicted. She enjoyed the illicit thrill of being held by Darnell but also wanted him to let go of her.
But soon she realized something was off. Darnell’s grip grew stronger.
Their bodies pressed closer together. Her body was pressed against Darnell’s strong chest through thin clothing.
She felt like she was suffocating. As she opened her mouth to breathe in the air, Darnell lowered his head towards hers.
With overwhelming force, he pressed his lips against hers in a wild kiss.
Lillian’s eyes widened in terror. After a moment of shock, she struggled desperately to shake her head free while scratching at Darnell’s back with her hands.
But Darnell seemed oblivious to pain as he continued kissing passionately with an intoxicated expression full of fervor.
His hand rudely groped Lillian before they both fell onto the bed together.
Darnell kissed downwards while touching Lillian’s fair thigh.
The heat made Lillian instinctively moan. “Darnell, stop!”
The kiss ended as abruptly as it began. Just when Lillian feared that Darnell might do something more extreme, he suddenly let go of her upon hearing her trembling voice.
He stared blankly at her face, showing an extremely complex expression before growling like an injured beast. “I’m sorry.”
Then he collapsed onto the bed beside her, tilting his head slightly and closing his eyes before falling asleep quickly.
Lillian’s face flushed and then paled. Her hand pressed against her chest as she stumbled backward, gasping for breath before her legs gave way, and she sank onto the bed.
She instinctively clutched the blanket tightly to her chest, breathing heavily as if that would provide her with a sense of safety.
Half a minute later, as she caught her breath, a mix of embarrassment and anger surged within her, prompting her to raise her hand to hit Darnell. But as her hand reached halfway, she caught sight of his sorrowful, desolate face.
That loneliness struck a chord deep within Lillian, transforming her anger into compassion. She lowered her hand and picked up the blanket, gently draping it over Darnell.
“You idiot!” she exclaimed.
After straightening her clothes and closing the window, she left the house.
“Lillian, why do you look so flustered? Your lips are bleeding. What happened?”
Noemi appeared by Lillian’s side out of nowhere, her expression curious. “Have you really fallen for him?”
Lillian paused for a moment, then forced a smile. “Godmother, I’m fine.”
“That’s good to hear.”
Noemi sighed, “You have a heavy burden on your shoulders. I can’t let anything happen to you.”
Lillian nodded and softly asked, “How is Zoey?”
“She’s doing well.”
