Ten minutes later, Kendra, who was handling matters, noticed that Bella’s attention was completely elsewhere. Bella kept glancing at the door with a sinister smile. Kendra knew Bella’s temperament well, and her heart skipped a beat as she suddenly remembered Bella’s grudge against Darnell.
“Bella, did you do something to Darnell?”
Bella, who was fantasizing about Darnell crying for mercy, was startled. “Kendra, I didn’t do anything. I’ve been in the room all this time. How could I have done anything to him?”
Then she changed her tone. “But that guy is extremely hateful. Whether he has other enemies settling scores with him, I don’t know.”
The young man with glasses sitting on the sofa sipped his coffee leisurely, as if it had nothing to do with him.
“Bella, you…” Kendra quickly judged that Bella had caused trouble and poked her forehead. “Even if he’s a criminal, you can’t use underhanded methods.”
“Though Darnell appears to be just a salesman on the surface, he has a close relationship with Areli. If she gets angry, we’ll be in trouble.”
Bella dismissed it. “Areli just had dinner with Mr. Matson. She’s not his biological granddaughter. Why would he scold us for a small manager?”
“As for Darnell, it’s even more ridiculous. He’s merely a small fry. If Areli knew what was good for her, she wouldn’t offend us for him.”
“Darnell hurt Finn. I’ve been holding this grudge in my heart. If it weren’t for you stopping me, I would have had someone deal with him long ago.”
Bella expressed her true feelings directly. “Today he’s been taken to the police station. If we don’t teach him a lesson, how will we ever face returning to the capital?”
Kendra looked at Bella sternly. “That’s not how things are done.”
“Bella, it’s right to teach him a lesson, but you shouldn’t have done it here.”
The young man with glasses saw Kendra’s face darken and coughed before he reprimanded Bella.
“He was brought in by Kendra. If anything happens to him, outsiders will accuse her of bullying the weak. His life or death doesn’t matter, but Kendra’s reputation does. Apologize to her immediately and stop your foolish actions.”
Then he stood up and patted Kendra’s shoulder. “Kendra, don’t blame Bella. She’s still a child and acts impulsively.”
“She doesn’t have the scheming minds of us adults. Besides, she’s doing it to vent Finn’s anger. Forgive her this once.”
“I promise there won’t be a next time.”
Bella also grabbed Kendra’s arm. “Kendra, don’t be angry anymore. It was my fault for being reckless.”
Hearing the young man’s words and seeing Bella admit her mistake, Kendra relented, her expression softening considerably. “Alright, I won’t blame you.”
“I know you want to vent your anger for Finn, but we can’t abuse our power to seek personal revenge.”
Bella nodded repeatedly. “Alright, I won’t do it again.” She took out her phone and said, “I’ll immediately stop Finn’s two men.”
On the surface, she seemed repentant but was secretly pleased. Fifteen minutes had passed. Darnell was probably already incapacitated.
The call didn’t go through! She tried again but still couldn’t get through!
Bella frowned slightly. Could those two guys be so engrossed in fighting that they couldn’t even hear their phones?
Kendra noticed something was wrong. “What’s going on?”
Bella hesitated before speaking, “The call didn’t go through.”
“Let’s go down and check!”
Kendra’s face changed slightly before she opened the door and rushed out, running down to the interrogation room downstairs where she saw Keith smoking at the end of the corridor.
There was no doubt that Bella had ordered heavy-handed tactics on Darnell. But now wasn’t the time to blame anyone. She wanted to open the door and check on Darnell.
For some reason, she wasn’t worried about Darnell but rather about Finn’s two men.
Darnell’s strangeness had given her a huge shock at the golf course.
Click!
Kendra twisted the handle but couldn’t move it. Pushing hard on the door yielded no response either. It was locked from the inside.
“Open up! Open the door now!”
No response!
Bella also banged loudly on the door. “It’s me! Open up right now!”
Still no response.
Kendra shouted at Keith, who came running over, “Get the spare key and open this door!”
Keith fumbled around getting the key but still couldn’t unlock it. Even surveillance footage from next door showed nothing as cameras were turned off.
Bang!
Without wasting any more words, Kendra kicked hard at the door, which flew open with a loud crash against the walls and then bounced back slightly.
She pushed past it first while others followed suit, all shocked by what they saw inside.
Two uniformed men stood facing each other, holding electric batons and poking each other, though the power wasn’t on. They seemed unconscious like statues.
Bella was stunned. “Odin! Jay! What happened?”
She simply couldn’t understand the actions of the two. Logically, they should have been beating up Darnell, yet here they were, collapsing onto each other instead.
What on earth had happened in those fifteen minutes? She rushed forward to shake them, and with a thud, both fell to the ground, startling Bella, who instinctively stepped back.
Kendra pressed down on Bella and then leaned in to check the two men’s breathing and heartbeats. “They’re fine, just unconscious. Call for a doctor.”
As the two officers scrambled to get help, Kendra turned her gaze back to Darnell, who was still sitting in the iron chair, his hands firmly restrained in handcuffs. However, his face, head, and body were smeared with blood, and he looked terrifyingly pale.
It appeared that he had taken a severe blow.
“Oh, no, there’s no breathing and no heartbeat!”
Darnell stopped breathing? Upon hearing Kendra’s words, Bella and Keith froze in shock. Was he really dead?
Kendra herself was momentarily stunned. Darnell was the one she had brought in. If he died like this, even if she used her connections to bury the issue, she would still feel guilty.
The thought of causing the death of an innocent person would become Kendra’s greatest shadow.
A gust of wind blew through the doorway, and Kendra suddenly remembered something. “CPR… yes, CPR!”
She quickly removed Darnell’s handcuffs and leg chains, then laid him flat on the floor. With practiced hands, she placed her palms on Darnell’s chest to perform chest compressions.
Once she cleared his airway, Kendra wasted no time, pinching Darnell’s nose and enveloping his mouth with her alluring red lips.
In shock, Bella and Keith watched as Kendra performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on Darnell, breathing into him three times.
Then, she returned to chest compressions, alternating between the two, and during a few breaths, Kendra’s lips brushed against Darnell’s tongue.
But she didn’t let herself think too much. All she wanted was to bring Darnell back to life.
After nearly a minute of CPR, footsteps echoed from outside, and Bella shouted, “Kendra, the doctor’s here! Let him take over!”
Keith chimed in, “Yeah, Ms. Wolmer, you shouldn’t be doing this. Let the doctor handle it.”
Kaff kaff!
At that moment, the motionless Darnell suddenly stirred, weakly opening his eyes, panic etched on his face.
“Don’t hit me! Don’t hit me!”
“It’s okay now. No one is going to hurt you,” Kendra reassured him quickly.
Seeing that Darnell was gradually regaining his breath, she released his mouth with a look of joy, hugging him tightly. “No one will hurt you.”
Darnell being alive or dead made a huge difference to Kendra.
Watching Kendra embrace Darnell tightly, Bella and Keith were furious, but for a moment, they didn’t know what to say.
“I’m scared!”
Darnell buried his head in Kendra’s chest like a frightened kid. “I want a lawyer. I want to go home. I want my mom.”
Just then, a piece of paper fell from Darnell’s grasp. Kendra’s quick reflexes allowed her to catch it, and upon glancing at it, she saw it was filled with Odin and Jay’s confession.
Darnell had forced out the mastermind behind the two men, as well as their mission to incapacitate him.
Kendra was furious that Bella had gone too far, but she instantly realized something else.
Though she didn’t know how it had happened, the fact that Darnell could extract a confession meant that he had indeed been attacked by them.
It further confirmed that Darnell’s unconsciousness had been feigned.
Thinking back to the mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, Kendra felt an overwhelming mix of embarrassment and anger as she shouted, “Darnell! I’m going to kill you!”
Darnell immediately scrambled to his feet, trying to escape.
