Chapter 169: I Plead Guilty

The police car quickly drove to the Whiteville Police Department. Darnell and Garrett were taken to separate interrogation rooms, while James was sent to the hospital for treatment.
James glared at Darnell with pure hatred, wishing he could personally interrogate him to vent his frustrations. Unfortunately, his injury forced him to seek medical attention.
If he didn’t get treated promptly, he might never be able to hold a gun again. Nevertheless, before heading to the hospital, he made sure to “remind” a few officers about Darnell’s group, indicating he wanted them to suffer a bit.
From the malicious expression on his face, it was clear he intended for his underlings to make Darnell pay.
The interrogation room at the police station was quite simple. It was a spacious white-painted room with a wooden door that bore the words “Interrogation Room”. In the center stood a table.
Behind the table were two chairs for the police officers.
The walls were lined with several cameras, monitoring the room’s every move.
To create a psychological advantage, the interrogation table was raised slightly higher, allowing the officers to look down on the suspects.
Across from the officers was a steel chair for the suspect, equipped with restraints for the hands and chains for the feet.
As soon as Darnell was brought into the room, two burly officers shoved him into the chair and secured his hands to the armrests, but they left the leg restraints off.
Afterward, they exited the room. Darnell curiously touched the chair. It was his first time experiencing the discomfort of a suspect’s steel seat.
Before he could take a good look at the interrogation room, the door suddenly swung open with a bang. Kendra, clad in black, entered with a commanding presence, accompanied by her colleague.
On a whim, Kendra decided to personally interrogate Darnell, whom she found particularly bothersome.
Having calmed down from the recent chaos in Woodsea, Darnell now had the chance to scrutinize the striking woman before him.
Kendra stood over 5’7″, with a slender physique and skin as flawless as ivory. Her beautiful eyes, cool and indifferent, exuded an alluring brilliance.
Her black uniform added an air of noble elegance to her beauty.
There are women who seem born to conquer men, and Kendra was undoubtedly one of them.
“175… 50.”
As Kendra walked toward the interrogation table, Darnell squinted and muttered a series of numbers, “34C, 24, 36.”
Kendra’s body stiffened for a moment as she was about to take her seat. Her cold, beautiful face reflected a hint of surprise. Though she tried to maintain a calm demeanor, it was clear she couldn’t keep her heart steady.
She stared at Darnell with icy eyes. “How do you know my height, weight, and measurements?”
Darnell chuckled, “I’ve seen my fair share of women. It’s not difficult to guess your measurements.”
Kendra snapped back, “Pervert.”
Suppressing her anger, she took a seat, clearly trained to control her emotions.
At that moment, the door swung open again, and a young officer entered, greeting respectfully, “Ms. Wolmer, I’m here to assist with the interrogation, sent by Mr. Needham. How can I help?”
Kendra nodded. “Just help me take notes.”
The young officer saluted and sat beside Kendra, his eyes betraying an unspoken eagerness.
Darnell felt a wave of dismay wash over him. The world truly was small. This young officer was none other than Keith Fletcher, one of the candidates he had chased away during the Spectrum Pharmaceuticals interview!
Graduating from the University of Ostham, Keith was a national runner-up in boxing. Darnell never expected this guy, who didn’t get the assistant job, would end up as an intern officer.
As Keith booted up his computer, he stole a few glances at Darnell, a trace of mockery in his gaze. “Mr. Halford?”
“In trouble, I see? But it’s to be expected. You were always breaking the rules at Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, using underhanded tactics to chase us all away.”
“It’s only natural that you ended up here today. You better behave, or Ms. Wolmer will have you in for more trouble.”
“Alright, Keith, enough of that,” Kendra interrupted, cutting straight to the point as she fixed her gaze on Darnell. “Name.”
Darnell stretched his neck. “Darnell Halford.”
“Gender.”
“Female!”
Kendra’s elegant brows furrowed, her expression turning icy. “Darnell, what do you mean by that?”
Darnell shrugged. “Anyone with eyes can see I’m a man. Don’t you think your question is rather silly?”
Kendra gritted her teeth in frustration, her voice laced with hostility. “I know that, but confirming your information is another matter.”
“Just answer my questions. You need to understand, you’re currently involved in charges of assault, gun theft, and assaulting an officer.”
Keith chimed in with a stern voice, “Darnell, don’t play games. This is the police station, not your stage to perform.”
Darnell leaned back in his chair. “Your attitude makes me suspect I’ll face an unfair interrogation. I need a lawyer.”
Kendra let out a cold laugh. “You have a lawyer?”
Darnell tilted his head slightly. “I… don’t have one, but you can help me get one.”
Kendra’s expression darkened, her displeasure evident. “Darnell, don’t be difficult. This won’t help you.”
Keith slammed a bottle of water down beside Darnell, speaking sharply, “Darnell, you better behave.”
“If you keep making Ms. Wolmer angry, I’ll take off this uniform and let you feel my fists.”
Seeing Keith’s aggressive demeanor, Darnell couldn’t help but smirk.
Though he had a small grudge against Keith, it wasn’t enough for him to be this furious. If he wanted revenge, he shouldn’t be this obvious… Unless there was one reason… Kendra.
However, if Keith was seeking to vent his frustrations on Darnell to win Kendra’s favor, he was gravely mistaken.
Darnell smiled casually and said, “Go ahead and ask your questions. I’m happy to cooperate with the police. Just remember to reward me after the interrogation.”
“Remember, I’m just a suspect, not necessarily a criminal. But you dared to handcuff me. Your attitude is quite hurtful.”
Keith was seething with anger, wanting to lash out again but was restrained by Kendra, forcing him to grit his teeth in silence.
Kendra continued the interrogation. “Darnell, what do you have to say about the events that occurred in Woodsea?”
Darnell sighed. “Well, it’s a long story, starting with James’s arbitrary confiscation of vehicles.”
“That day, James blocked several entrances to Woodsea with his men, specifically targeting motorcycles and electric bikes, which outraged the populace.”
Keith’s expression darkened as he slammed his hand on the table. “Darnell, we’re asking about the brawl and your assault on an officer! Don’t waste our time with irrelevant details!”
Kendra’s eyes were equally cold, her gaze filled with disapproval.
Darnell wasn’t bothered by their attitude. “The brawl? The assault on an officer?”
Keith barked, “Come clean!”
Darnell slapped his forehead in a show of regret. “Oh right, I did get into a fight this afternoon, and I assaulted an officer too.”
“I plead guilty!”
As those three words left his mouth, both Kendra and Keith were taken aback, and even Bella, who was listening through the one-way glass in the adjacent room, was stunned.
