Chapter 147: No Match for Darnell

Ignoring the laughter from the crowd, Darnell kept shouting into the microphone.
Halfway through the song, Areli and Eliezer couldn’t bear to listen anymore. It wasn’t singing. It was like slaughtering a pig.
Even Roberto and Eliezer couldn’t help themselves, laughing uncontrollably, clutching their stomachs but unable to say a word.
Darnell’s singing was really terrible. He couldn’t pronounce the words clearly and sang with a bit of an accent. He couldn’t even keep up with the rhythm. The beautiful song was completely ruined by him.
He sang completely off-key, making it hard not to think he was wailing like a banshee.
“Darnell, it’s such a pity that you’re not pursuing a singing career!”
Amidst the lowered heads of Casey and her group, Zoey covered her belly and continued, laughing, “You’re really talented. I think I should admit defeat.”
With a smile on his face, Darnell seemed oblivious to the fact that these words were meant to provoke him. He looked rather regretful as he said,
“Yes, I’ve always thought that not participating in Westergold’s Idol is a big loss for the entertainment industry.”
Roberto and the others present immediately collapsed. Where did he get the confidence to say such shameless words? He was truly speechless.
After everyone finished laughing, Eliezer smirked and said, “Mr. Halford, are you kidding? Or are you too shy? Sing a song seriously, will you?”
He believed that he had had it in the bag.
Darnell was about to lose five million!
Everyone present shouted for Darnell to get off the stage.
“I didn’t feel it before, so I didn’t sing well. But now I think I can sing really well,” Darnell said as he held the microphone and turned to Eliezer. “I just need one more thing. Please wait for me.”
Areli’s heart sank and she felt a lump in her throat. It felt like a scene from the golf course was about to repeat itself. She instantly tensed up.
As she expected, Darnell indeed looked over and cheerfully shouted, “Miss Fanshaw, I want…”
“No!” Before Darnell could finish speaking, Areli’s face darkened. “Absolutely not.”
“I haven’t said anything yet, and you’re already saying no. That’s rude. It’s as if I wanted a kiss from you,” Darnell complained with a frustrated expression.
“I just wanted to drink something to soothe my throat, so I was asking if I could have a couple of sips of the juice on your table.”
Areli felt a bit relieved but then grew angry again. That jerk! Still, she didn’t say anything more and handed the juice to Darnell.
Darnell drank the juice in one breath and then wiped his mouth with a smile. “Miss Fanshaw’s juice is delicious.”
Areli’s eyes turned cold, as if she wanted to kill someone. The others wanted to laugh but didn’t dare to.
“Alright, I can sing now.”
Returning to the stage, Darnell held the microphone again and shouted to the audience, “Ladies and gentlemen, you are the elite of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals and the cornerstone of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals’ success. Standing here today means that you have sacrificed a lot for Spectrum Pharmaceuticals and yourselves.”
“Whether it’s sunny or freezing cold outside, you think about your clients.”
“When others are having family reunions and dinners together, you are still serving your clients.”
“When your own family goes on vacation or goes shopping or watches movies together, you still think about your clients.”
“You’ve worked hard, tried every possible way to satisfy our clients, and endured countless hardships. Thank you for your hard work!”
“You have created miracles for Spectrum Pharmaceuticals and for yourselves.”
“You are a group of people who deserve the utmost respect.”
Darnell bowed to everyone. “Now, I want to dedicate ‘We’re The World’ to all of you.”
Darnell’s short speech tugged at over two hundred people’s heartstrings. Many felt warm inside.
As they reflected on their past, a wave of unspeakable emotions washed over them. The grievances they had endured to reach this point began to flow out with Darnell’s understanding and bow. Some in the crowd even started to tear up.
As the music played, Darnell, who had previously appeared so flippant, singing off-key like he was slaughtering a pig, was now on stage radiating charisma.
“We are the world. We are the children. We are the ones who make a brighter day.
So let’s start giving.”
“There’s a chance we’re taking. We’re taking our own lives. It’s true we’ll make a brighter day. Just you and me.”
As his voice rang out, everyone was stunned. The accuracy of his pitch and tone were completely different from before. His voice was enchanting, captivating everyone in the room.
Moreover, in his singing voice, Darnell also stirred up everyone’s blood, making them unable to contain their excitement and wanting to join in singing along.
Was this guy really the same Darnell who was singing off-key just a moment ago?
In Zoey’s and others’ astonishment, Darnell continued holding onto the microphone and sang.
Darnell’s voice was full of depth and passion. It rose and fell with the rhythm of the music before reaching an exhilarating low note.
The resonating lyrics touched everyone’s hearts while his unique vocal tone evoked a faint sense of sadness and helplessness. The ups and downs released an intense climax filled with passion.
The song encouraged those who were downcast or frustrated to hold onto their confidence and strive hard. It also reminded those who had achieved success to remember their past hardships.
The whole venue fell silent as they listened attentively. It felt like they were attending an individual concert.
Areli stopped holding her wine glass as she became absorbed in Darnell’s singing. An indescribable emotion welled up in her heart as she seemed to recall some dreams she once had.
Even Roberto and Eliezer noticed that they had lost focus for several seconds before wearing expressions of astonishment.
Zoey sighed softly. She lost.
After finishing one round of singing and starting another round, Darnell suddenly shouted out loud, “Let’s all sing together!”
As soon as he spoke those words, over two hundred people who were already filled with passionate energy erupted into action together with Darnell.
“We are the world. We are the children. We are the ones who make a brighter day…”
Their voices filled the entire hall, elevating the atmosphere to new heights. Many people began to dance along to the beat, caught up in a mix of excitement and release, feeling incredibly happy.
This song not only showcased Darnell’s talent but also brought him closer to all the salespeople present.
Casey, Shayla, and Bailee couldn’t control themselves anymore as they rushed onto the stage alongside Darnell. They hugged each other while jumping and singing.
Darnell waved his hand grandly. “Did Zoey sing well or did we sing well?”
The crowd roared, “You guys!”
Areli looked at Roberto and Eliezer with displeased expressions on their faces before sighing softly, “They’re no match for Darnell.”
