Kayla
I was alone in his study, crippling to the floor. Just then, the door pulled open, I lifted my head up to find Robin at the door. The tears that I had imprisoned rushed out forcefully, and before I could stop myself, I was up on my feet racing to him. Instantly falling into his arms.
Robin engulfed me, his hands holding me firmly, as more tears escaped from my eyes.
When I got much control of my emotions, my blue eyes pulled to meet him.
“What is happening Robin? What is it that you told Asher that made him distance himself away from me.”
Robin remained silent, his silence shattering my heart. He was the only hope I had in unraveling this mystery. Quietly, he led me to the couch. I got seated and Robin crouched before me.
His bright emerald green irises were indecipherable just like his brother.
Robin picked my trembling hands in his, holding my stare seriously. “I’m so sorry Kayla, but this is not something that I can discuss with you.”
I sucked in my tears and held onto his hands like I was holding onto my life. “Please Robin, I deserve to know. You can’t leave me in the dark, please help me.”
He got up, pacing back and forth. I had no idea what was running through his mind. After a minute of silence, he said to me,
“This might break you Kayla but you have to promise me, you won’t act out of place after I finish telling you this,”
His words scared me but now was not the time to pull back, I was already deep into it, and the only way to calm my nerves was to get my answers. I nodded “Please Robin, tell me the suspense is killing already.”
He stopped moving. His eyes pierced deep into my soul, and he sighed. “Emily is still alive.”
“What?” “How?” I didn’t believe it to be possible that a few words could instantly ruin my life. Despair washed over me like a tidal wave nearly drowning me.
How could Emily be alive?
Asher and Dami personally told me about what happened on that fateful day. He had mistakenly killed her and she died in his arms in the pool of her own blood. Then how is it possible that Robin had seen her?
“How is that possible?” I asked in disbelief. “Maybe you saw someone with the same resemblance and not her.”
He shook his head “I know what I saw and she also has a tint of silver hair at the side of her hair just like Emily. So, I am certain she is the one.”
I took a step back in shock. This was the last thing I was expecting him to say. Robin did not look happy with my reaction but I was certain that he wasn’t expecting anything different.
“I am sorry Kayla, I didn’t expect things to turn out this way knowing that Asher was beginning to accept you in his life before I broke that news to him. Please forgive me,”
I shook my head. ” It’s not your fault and you don’t need to apologize for that.”
After our few moments together, Asher was beginning to be free around me but now our relationship was about to take a wrong turn.
His coldness towards me after hearing this news made me confirm that if anything were to happen, he would easily let go of me and take her back into his life.
Robin sighed, rubbing his chin, and moved closer to me. “I know that you are the right one for Asher. I hope he realizes that before it’s too late.” He gave my shoulder a small squeeze, leaving me alone in the space of Asher’s study.
Robin’s words surprised me. I didn’t expect him to say that after finding out that his brother’s mate was still alive. Was it possible that he could see the attraction between us? Or maybe he just wanted me to feel better at the moment?
My brain couldn’t process anything at the moment and all I wanted to do was move back to my chamber, sleep, and pretend like all this never happened. I made my way back upstairs to my chamber and my heart broke into a million pieces when I saw Asher in the chamber staring at the picture of Emily with pain and confusion rooted in his gaze. I wanted to run out and cry but instead, I stood there and waited for him to notice my presence.
If Asher could act this way even without seeing her yet then what would happen if she mistakenly shows up?
He looked up, the moment he realized I was observing him. There was a flash of regret in his gaze but it did nothing to calm my fears.
“Why didn’t you tell me about it?” I muttered,
He straightened his back and placed the picture face down on the table. He gave me a long, hard look before answering,
“Tell you about what?”
I glared at him, a fire of uncontrollable anger igniting within me. Was he really going to keep playing dumb at this point? I felt high-strung physically and mentally, like a bowstring ready to snap at any moment.
I unknowingly raised my voice, nearly shouting, “You can stop pretending I already know everything. Robin told me everything.”
His eyes hardened and immediately the chamber was filled with so much tension that I unknowingly took a step back. He had this look on his face that was impossible to read and if I had to guess, he was torn between something and I had no idea what it was but it was driving him insane.
“How did you expect me to deliver such information to you, Kayla?” He asked, his voice cold and void of any emotion.
I winced at his tone but still maintained eye contact with him, refusing to look away no matter how much it hurt. I stayed completely still as he came close to me.
“What is the best way to tell my wife that my brother saw a woman that looked exactly like my dead mate?
How do I tell her that there is a possibility that my dead mate is still alive? Tell me how I was supposed to break this kind of news to you?”
I remained quiet, not sure of what to say or how to react at the moment.
“Are you happier now that you know the truth? Tell me, Isabella. Does this make you feel any better?” He asked as he grabbed my shoulder.
I felt tears streaming down my face at his questions. I stared pointedly at him and poked a finger at his chest angirly. “I might not know the proper way to deliver this kind of message but I know that I don’t deserve to find out this way.” I pulled out of his hold, turned, and stormed out of the chamber. I heard heavy footsteps behind me and I knew he was not far behind.
“Kayla!” He growled
I ignored him and continued to walk out of the castle. I didn’t want to stay around and take any form of disrespect from him.
“Kayla! What the fuck is wrong with you?” He growled louder than before
I stopped in my tracks immediately after I noticed the figure in front of me. A woman with a long shiny brown that flowed behind her waist and her pretty brown eyes were concealed by long eyelashes. Her lips were red and covered in shimmery gloss, her skin was smooth and flawless and there was a tint of silver hair by the side of her hair.
I paused when recognition hit me like a strong force that almost tumbled me over. Those features could only belong to one person.
No! This is not possible
