I stared at Asher from the carriage and studied his bodily structure. The way his eyes twitched, his mouth was pressed together, his muscles clenched, and his face was imprinted with shock and disbelief.
Whatever information that has been delivered to him had to be something extremely horrible. I raked my hair with my fingers, clutching a handful as I tried to think of the news that had gotten him so worked but my mind came up with nothing.
My heart drummed in my chest and my feet were itching to run to his side and find out what it was that had him on the edge but I forced myself to stay put and calm. I didn’t want him to think I was prying too much into his affairs, so I decided to wait until he was ready to tell me.
As if on cue he turned his face in my direction and my blue eyes connected with his amber ones, there was this broken look on his face and a glint of fear stalked in the depths of his eyes. I could feel the conflict in his heart. I let out a sigh as I clenched and unclenched my hands, wondering what to do.
He quickly masked his emotions from his face as he approached me but I could see past the guise, taking a peek at the sorrows that dwelt behind that gaze of his that held mine.
He moved closer, gazing down at me with hooded eyes as he pulled the carriage door open and unbuckled the seatbelt around me. I felt an instant warmth seep through my body as Asher’s scent invaded my nostrils, and I tried to regulate my breathing. His blonde hair was inches away from my face and I pulled him closer and buried my nose in his hair inhaling his enticing scent.
He froze and I could hear his breath quicken at my action. I swallowed nervously as his grip on my wrists loosened a bit. I thought he would let me go, but he maintained his grip and lowered just a little as his hands wrapped around my waist and he carried me out of the carriage.
I swallowed.
As the memories of our moments in the woods came flooding and hell, I wanted to desperately lean into him and let him devour me, to make love to me. To leave me high and dry as his mouth explored every corner of my body. I wanted him to crush my lips bruisingly hard, make me worship his cock, and swallow every last drop of his release before he would throw me on the bed and made me moan his name again.
At the moment, I did not trust my body not to try any crazy move so I blinked that memory away and asked the first sane question that came to my mind.
“Is everything okay?”
A muscle in his jaw twitched at that but he maintained a stoic expression as his eyes drifted to Robin who was equally studying me with strange emotions. “No, it’s not something you need to be concerned about. It is all about council business,” he said, and Robin nodded his head as Asher continued to carry me inside the castle.
My nerves were a jumbled mess as I was so lost in thoughts that I did not even realize we had reached our chamber and he pulled the door open with his legs, walked in, and gently dropped on the bed.
“Are you not spending the night here with me?” I asked as he picked up some blue-bound documents and was about to leave the chamber.
His eyes darkened as his blond hair clung to his face, curling into tendrils that were plastered to his forehead.
Instead of speaking, he came closer and my eyes went wide as I saw him leaning down on me, his amber eyes looking at me with an intense heat as I took in his features. I began slowly tracing my hand on his chest, circling it as he looked at me with lust.
His eyes were filled with pure lust, something similar to the looks he had back then in the woods and my body was trembling like a leaf caught in the whirlwind.
His breath lingered over me and a muscle in his jaw twitched.
He did not back away; instead, he lowered himself further, almost to the point that our noses would touch, our lips a mere millimeters away from each other, and a ripple of an electric current tore through me. My breathing was ragged and my skin tingled as our lips grazed…barely and I felt something spark in his eyes as if a lightning bolt had dazzled his golden amber pools of heat. The effect was instantaneous.
He scratched his chin which was dusted with light stubble, his eyes were glowing like molten lava as he looked at my lips again. He was going to lean in and suddenly he shook his head and leaned back a bit.
“I have some Pack discussions with Robin, I will be back late. Please don’t wait up. Sleep, you need all the rest you can get,” his voice coming out huskier than it had been before.
Angry tears began to pool behind my eyes but I refused to let them out. My lips trembled as I watched him stand up without sparing another glance at me, he left the chamber and shut the door behind him.
“Was the emotion I saw in his eyes fake? Had he felt absolutely nothing?
Maybe he was actually avoiding spending the night in the same chamber with me.”
I got up angrily, pushing hair out of my face as more tears began to pool behind my eyes and the effort of not letting them come to the front made my face flush with heat and anger.
The tidal wave that had risen deep inside me crashed down without meeting the shore and retreated.
