Logan’s POV
As I watch, Ethan storms out of the house, his face thunderous. I know exactly what that means – the discussion between Nadine, and him in the backyard didn’t go well.
My mind starts racing with thoughts, each one tumbling over the other in a jumbled mess. I know I need to act fast, to be there for Nadine and Shawn. I can hear the panic in Nadine’s voice, and my heart aches for her. In this moment, I wish we were a family – Nadine, Shawn, and me – united in our love for our child.
But I know that’s not possible, at least not yet. What I can do is make time for Shawn, to build a connection with him. I’m determined to make co-parenting work, no matter what it takes.
I look at Nadine, I know I need to be careful. I shouldn’t reveal too much to her, not yet. I’m not sure how well she can take it, and I don’t want to add to her stress. So I’ll bide my time, waiting for the right moment to share my thoughts and feelings with her. For now, I’ll just be here for her, supporting her through this tough time.
I step out of the house and quickly pull out my phone to call my security team. I need to double the protection at both Nadine’s and my residences, ASAP. Something’s off, and I can feel it. They’ve manipulated her into thinking they’re on her side, but I know better. They’re just waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
I get into my car and speed off, my mind racing with one thought: getting answers. The road stretches out before me, lonely and dark, but I’m focused. I won’t rest until I uncover what’s going on.
I’m determined to pay a visit to someone who might know more than they’re letting on. My gut tells me that Ethan’s involved, but what’s his endgame? What does he want from Nadine?
I push the thoughts aside and concentrate on the road ahead. I’ll get to the bottom of this, no matter what it takes. The silence in the car is broken only by the sound of my tires screeching as I take a sharp turn. I’m driven by a singular purpose: uncovering the truth.
As I step out of my car, I make my way to the gate, and to my surprise, it swings open, inviting me in. I guess my visit is long overdue. I’ve been so caught up in keeping Nadine and Shawn safe that I haven’t had a chance to come here.
I walk up the path and see him sitting in a chair, his back turned to me as he gazes out the window. He senses my presence and turns, a hint of a smile on his face.
“About time you paid me a visit, you know,” he says, his voice warm. “Good to see you, son.”
I take a seat next to him, and he asks, “How have you been?”
I sigh. “I’ve been good, but lately, things have been going downhill in ways I can’t comprehend.”
He nods, in understanding, and I know he’s ready to listen. I take a deep breath, preparing to share everything that’s been going on.
“Sit,” pointing to a chair opposite him.
I sit, my mind racing with questions. “How is your wife, son?” his eyes narrowed slightly.
“She’s fine, but someone is after her life,” my jaw clenched.
He nods thoughtfully. “You see, son, life has taught me many things. One of them is to not trust everything you hear. They will want you to believe their lies.”
I lean forward, my heart racing. “Truth, Father, but is there something you think I should know?”
He pauses, studying me. “The person you think is after your wife’s life… isn’t who you think it is.”
I frown, feeling a sense of unease. “What do you mean?”
He leans forward, his voice low. “Remember that island auction that was sold to your wife?”
I nod, my mind racing. “What about it?”
He eyes me intensely. “Someone in Jones’ family wants that island too, and they’ll do everything it takes to have it.”
I look at him sharply, not liking where this is going. “What are you saying, father?”
“Someone in Jones’ family?” I repeat, my mind racing back to the auction where Nadine had bid on the island. “Is it Ethan?”
My father’s expression turns grave. “It’s not just Ethan, son. And they’ll stop at nothing to get what they want.”
I feel a shiver run down my spine as I process this new information. “But the island is still in Nadine’s name,” trying to make sense of it all.
My father’s eyes lock onto mine, his gaze intense. “That’s exactly why you need to guard her with your life. The forces that want her dead are more than you know.”
I’m dumbfounded, unsure of how to process this revelation. My mind reeling with questions and fears. How can I protect Nadine and Shawn from this powerful family? What secrets is the island hiding that makes it so valuable?
I look at my father, hoping for answers, but he just shakes his head. “I’ve told you all I can, son. Now it’s up to you to keep them safe.”
First, it was Isabelle’s death, her cryptic message still echoing in my mind: “Nadine is in bed with very dangerous people.” Then, she was gone.
Next, a man was caught at the scene, Ethan’s name on his lips, before he, too, succumbed to death.
Later, another man attacked Nadine in her own home, only to fall victim to poison.
And now, my dad drops another bombshell: it’s all connected to the island. Just when I thought I had a clue about what to do, the web of secrets got even more tangled.
I feel like I’m drowning in a sea of mysteries, each new revelation pulling me under. I thought I was getting closer to the truth, but now I’m not so sure.
The island, Nadine, Ethan – how do they all fit together? I look at my dad, searching for answers, but his expression is grim. He’s told me all he can, and now it’s up to me to unravel the threads of this deadly conspiracy.
