164. One Guard, Down

Book:The Nemesis Of The Lycan Triplets Published:2025-2-8

Daniel balled his fists in anger at the question thrown to him by Raul.
He darted glances between I and Raul as if we were both joining hands to attack him. Gabriella left his side, as if she was afraid that he might get insane, and walked to my side.
Daniel, noticing this, gritted his teeth, before freeing his hands.
“Good boy. Good that you noticed that this is not your living room, or your pack, or the school where students lived for drama. Now what do you want?” Raul asked, causing my eyes to widen in surprise.
Was the boy courting death? I wondered, folding my arms across my chest. As much as I believe Raul’s words, I liked the drama. Gabriella mirrored my actions. We watched as Daniel opened his mouth, and then shut it. I wasn’t sure if it was because of nerves seeing that Raul had displaced him before he even started, or because whatever he wanted to say was embarrassing.
Looking at him now, it was hard to believe that he was the same Daniel with the most running mouth amongst his siblings, the same Daniel that had found so much delight in bullying me, that had found so much delight in killing me.
Despite what Adam believed-that he didn’t remember killing me-it didn’t change the fact that it had happened. It didn’t change the fact that I still had the scars on my back and below my breasts- proof that the horrible night actually happened.
“I want to see Dora.” Daniel finally spoke, his gaze leaving Raul to land on me.
“She is busy at the moment. These goods aren’t going to shelve themselves.” Raul pointed out, without missing a beat.
Daniel scoffed. “You better be careful, Raul. Don’t make me do what you will regret. You better let her go.”
Raul laughed. “Daniel, you are sounding like a broken record. Dora isn’t leaving here, until she is done shelving these goods.”
I sighed, and reclined on a shelf. This episode of the drama might take a long time. Daniel seemed at a loss on what to do then, especially when he stared at the unopened cartons, and the multitude of them all. And then he sighed, and nodded.
The dude nodded.
“I will help her then. Can you excuse us?”
Raul was rendered speechless for the first time since the conversation started, not believing that he had just shot himself on the foot. He didn’t say a word, as Daniel walked right past him and headed toward me.
Oh, the guard is down.
“Hey, sorry for the drama outside school today. We can be intense, me and my brothers.” Daniel said as he got to my space.
Gabriella watched us both. I’m sure the girl must be wondering what my deal with the Lycan boys was. I wasn’t sure either.
Why were they seemingly obsessed with me? Weren’t there enough girls to go around? Had they bedded the entire girls in the pack, and was now looking for a new pussy? Well, they could spread their antenna to their colonies. I’m sure they would find more for their harem.
By the way, I said nothing to Daniel. We just stood, staring at each other blankly. I was determined not to break the stare first.
When Raul couldn’t take it anymore, he walked toward us, and pushed Daniel out of the way. It was barely a push, just a slight brush, but Daniel took it personal, because in the next second, he turned aside and gave Raul a huge push such that the latter was sent flying to the edge of the room. Raul landed on cartons, fortunately.
“Don’t touch me without my permission, wizard.”
“Get out.” I pointed to the door as I issued the command, not in the mood for the theatrics anymore. But Daniel remained standing before me.
“I can’t.” Was the simple reply he gave me.
“What do you want, Daniel?” I asked, folding my arms again across my chest.
He looked at Gabriella and Raul. “They need to excuse us. I have a feeling that they will listen to you, more than they would to me.”
I sighed. He was right. Gabriella, without waiting for me to say anything, tapped my arm, muttered a ‘ see you later’, and walked out of the room. She must have seen the resigned look on my face.
I knew the triplets. Daniel wouldn’t leave without saying whatever rubbish was on his mind. They were mighty stubborn. Raul however seemed to be more stubborn. He was standing now, dusting his bottoms. And he didn’t look like he wanted to leave. His gaze remained fastened on me, as if telling me to ask Daniel to leave. But how could I, knowing that Daniel wouldn’t leave?
“Raul, please…” I said, not wanting to lose this job because of boys’ pride and all that. Fortunately, Raul listened this time around. He gave me a last glance filled with a lot of emotions and questions, before walking out of the room. He shut the door after me leaving me and Daniel inside the room.
I sat on one of the cartons then, and crossed my legs.
“What were you both doing before I came in here?”
I ignored the question, instead I chose to peruse my mask with my fingers.
“Why do you wear a mask?”
I ignored that too.
Daniel threw up his hands in frustration, before taking a seat on the carton across from me. “Are you really not going to talk to me?”
“I will, if you ask reasonable questions. After all, you earned it by winning Adam in the duel.”
I had heard from Levina, that after I had left, Daniel had almost beaten Adam to a pulp, if not for the interference of Noah, whom she wasn’t sure why he hadn’t interfered in the matter before it had gotten out of hand. Adam hadn’t fought back though, not even to defend himself.
Yet, I couldn’t help but taunt Daniel with it. When I saw him scrunching his face, I knew that I had gotten him.
“It wasn’t a duel.” A gentle slow tone, that told me he regretted to an extent, the volume of his actions, the implications they carried too. “And I’m not proud of what I did, not even if it had gotten me the chance to speak with you like this.”
Interesting.
“So, why did you do it?”
Daniel shrugged his shoulders. “I’m not sure. It just happened. I didn’t even realize it until I was done. I don’t understand why I was so angry that he had tried to win you for himself. After all, as you had guessed right earlier, we mostly slept with the same set of girls.”
I sucked my teeth in disgust then, grabbing his attention.
“I know it’s crazy, but it is what it is. You seem to be different though…” He paused and stared me in the eye intensely, so much so I almost squirmed in my seat.
I have never been this close to Daniel, where he wasn’t bullying me or killing me. This was the first time I was having a normal conversation with Daniel after the doctor’s pronouncement of my wolfless state. Before then, we still didn’t talk, just a wave here and there.
The only person I had talked to, those years ago, was Adam, and it was a mistaken incident. Probably why it had taken him a while to settle into the phase of bullying his friend.
Adam.
I hated him on all counts.
This up close, I could see the grayish hue in Daniel’s blue eyes, and the enthrallment it meant. I knew Daniel was handsome, but up close I could see how much. Daniel was very handsome. His sharp jawline and the aristocratic nose, the woody scent that was threatening to make me forget his wickedness, all added up to idle my brain. I needed to get out of here.
“Dora…can you tell me why you hate my brothers and I so much?”
This again?
“Nothing Daniel. I just hate boys with no control over their tools.” I answered, pushing the carton back, away from the hotness in front of me, with the muscles of my buttocks.
“Then would you hate yourself too? I heard you lost control of your magic today and burnt four classes…” He smirked as he said this, causing me to shake my head.
There was no redemption for Daniel and his brothers. I pity the women that would be chosen as their mates. Because tell me why he would compare the both? Is sex the same with magic? The idiot was just justifying his stupid activities, and I wasn’t going to sit here and let him. As a matter of fact, I have lost patience for him.
So, I stood up on my feet, about to walk out of the room, but he held me by my arm. I flung it away just as fast.
“Don’t touch me without my permission.”
I threw back to him, the words he had used for Raul, with the same amount of annoyance and irritation.
