Book 5: Chapter Twenty-Eight – Not Kissing Him Back

Book:The Temptation Series Published:2025-2-8

Skylar gasped with shock, not having expected it so soon. Christian plunged his tongue deep inside her mouth just as he had warned her about. The sexual tension hovering around them seemed to intensify within the four walls of the room. He could feel his arousal tighten with suppressed need straining to satisfy itself.
His movements were aggressive as he molded her against the hard length of him. An overwhelming possessiveness took over him and he kissed her with abandon, demanding a response from her. Finally, her arms circled around his shoulders and another gasp escaped her. It was a gasp of pleasure this time! Yet she didn’t kiss him back!
Christian tipped her head back to relish her sweet mouth to the fullest. “Kiss me or I won’t stop!” he hissed, breaking the kiss momentarily. Couldn’t she realize how much he was burning for her? Instead of tempting her to give in to him, he was falling prey to the temptation.
“No, let me go, Christian!” she gritted out, feeling totally disoriented by his sudden attack on her lips. She pushed him with all her might and ran towards the door and out in a matter of seconds as if the demon was chasing her.
Christian blinked with disbelief! Did she not feel a thing when he kissed her? This was the second time she behaved this way. It wouldn’t do at all! He had to find a way to get her to kiss him back.
After the engagement, he would definitely want to kiss her and get a response too.
With a sigh, he walked out of the room to seek her out and bring her back into their room. What would their relatives think at seeing her roaming around aimlessly with swollen lips?
He searched for her everywhere but didn’t find her. Where could she have gone? With their engagement in a few hours, had she ditched him and left the hotel? Anything was possible with Skykar Carnell!
He asked the staff for her but they hadn’t seen her at all. As he crossed Lillian’s room, he knocked on an impulse. Maybe she was hiding in there!
Caleb opened the door and smiled at him. “Hey, dude! Fully charged up for your engagement, aren’t you?”
“Yeah, sort of. Is Skylar here, bro?” he asked peering inside. Caleb walked inside with a nod and he followed him with a smile of relief.
“Yes, she’s handling the twins while Lillian is sorting out our clothes for the party.”
“Oh!” He could see Skylar stiffen at the sight of him. It gave him immense satisfaction as he sat down on the bed beside her.
“You can’t run far. I’ll seek you out every time!” he whispered into her ear.
“Only for the next two years. Once the contract is over, I’ll disappear from your life forever!” she whispered back.
“We’ll see about that!”
“Thanks a lot, Skye! You can rest a bit now,” said Lillian, coming over to take over from her. The twins were eager to go swimming while Lillian wanted them to take a nap. It would energize them to enjoy the party. With them trying to sneak out, she needed someone to supervise them while she was busy.
“Let’s get going, Skylar,” said Christian, getting up.
“I’ll stay here for a few more minutes.”
“You need a little rest or you’ll end up with dark circles under your eyes,” advised Lillian and Christian held out his hand for her to take.
“Come on. I’m waiting,” he reminded her with frustration. If her brother wouldn’t have been there, he would have picked her up on his shoulder and marched off to his room. She gingerly placed her hand into his and he hauled her up. Within seconds, he pulled her along back into their room.
“I’m not continuing with the kiss if you’ve brought me back for it.”
“Who wants to kiss a brat? I just didn’t want you roaming around with swollen lips for all to see.” He walked away, feeling a little upset by her behavior. What would she lose if she gave in just a little? Was it so difficult to kiss him just once? He sat down at the desk, opening his laptop to check the files Sebastian had sent him last night. Since morning he had been wasting his efforts with her. She would never change!
Skylar gaped at the rude man. If he considered her a brat, why was he dying to kiss her? She lay down to rest her tired legs. The day’s events had her totally exhausted. She just wished the engagement party would get canceled somehow. She dozed off in no time, unaware of Christian’s gaze hooked on her.
Unable to get any work done, he got up to lie down beside her. Even when she was asleep, she could tempt him like a seductress. It frustrated him that despite his efforts he couldn’t get a kiss out of her. Twice he tried yet failed both times. Now he was determined to succeed. Unless he did, there was no respite for him. Would she kiss him back after the engagement? With the whole family watching, he doubted she would.
There was a knock on his door and he sighed knowing Lillian was here to get her ready. He opened the door to find his sister with the dress, accessories, and makeup. “Is she sleeping still?”
“Yeah! Let her sleep an hour more or she’ll drive me insane.”
Lillian chuckled and handed him the stuff. “Fine, I’ll be back later.”
Christian went back to bed and stretched out beside her. At least no one would disturb him for an hour. He watched her sleeping like an angel and the wish to get a kiss out of her started to intensify. Christian too dozed off to sleep, rolling over unknowingly towards her.
“Get off me, Christian. Someone’s at the door.” Startled, Christian rolled over to his side and Skylar went to open the door. Lillian stood outside with an amused grin on her face.
What? Don’t you want to get engaged tonight?” Skylar wanted to tell her she didn’t but held her tongue for Christian’s sake.
“The attendants will be joining me in a few minutes.” She entered the room and Christian groaned.
“Bro, get your lazy ass out of bed and be ready in my room. There’s only an hour to the party.”
Grumbling, Christian picked up his suit and belongings and left the room. The attendants arrived to help Skylar out. With only an hour left, they hurried to get her ready on time. Grandpa Ben was very particular about reaching the venue ten minutes early.
Skylar stared at herself in the beautiful emerald green dress Lillian handed her at the last minute. She looked gorgeous and chic in the figure-hugging, v-neck piece.
“Why am I wearing this, Lillian? Didn’t you get me a different dress?” she asked at last when the attendants left after completing their job.
“Yes, Christian wanted you to wear this. He had it ordered especially for you.” Skylar’s jaws dropped with surprise. So the guy wasn’t joking when he said he wanted her to wear what he chose for her!
“Oh, why didn’t you tell me before?” she asked, trying to open the dress and discard it.
“No, please don’t open it. There’s no time to get ready all over again. Grandpa will be furious, Skye.” Skylar stilled at the mention of Grandpa Ben’s name. She couldn’t face his wrath in front of so many guests.
“Fine. Let’s go even when I’m looking like a tree!” she grumbled and Lillian rolled her eyes.
“You know you aren’t looking like a tree, Skylar. In fact, you look much better in this than the dresses I got for you.”
“I don’t want to look good at all.” Lillian pulled her along out of the room with a laugh.
“Why would you want something like that? You’re weird, you know.” Skylar gingerly went along to the venue. She knew she wasn’t weird. She just couldn’t explain her situation to Lillian. If she looked sexy, she was sure Christian would again want to kiss her. Whereas if she looked like a frog, he wouldn’t even consider it!
She entered the huge banquet hall decorated with white and golden heart-shaped balloons. Red roses and white flowy tulle bunched together at regular intervals gave the place a romantic vibe. But more than the decor, it was Christian clad in a black tuxedo, waiting for her beside Grandpa Ben that got her attention. He looked like a model straight out of the fashion magazines! The suit clung to his muscles and she blushed remembering his promise of a kiss after the engagement.
‘God! How will I kiss him in front of them all?’ She glanced around the place with dread. The family looked over-excited to be here!
“Oh, there she is!” someone exclaimed and all eyes turned towards her. It made her want to hide somewhere.
Acutely aware of Christian’s gaze upon her, she couldn’t stop the warm flush that crept up her neck to her cheeks. He would be so happy she gave in and wore the dress he chose for her. But he didn’t know she would do the same to him at their wedding, if they ever married!
