RENE
“After everything that happened, you still think I should call and ask about her whereabouts now?”
“Of course, you just have to. I don’t want you stressing your head over someone who isn’t even worth it. Now look at you-she’s succeeded in making you a shadow of yourself,” I insisted, adding weight to my words to convince him successfully.
Cyril stayed silent for a while. I knew he was processing what I had told him, so I didn’t interfere with his thoughts. I gave him all the time he needed to think things through.
As much as I was desperate to become his legally wedded wife, I was still smart enough to know that excessive intrusion might ruin my chances-especially considering how sharp Cyril is.
“I think you’re right. I’m going to give her a call right now,” Cyril finally decided after giving it a second thought.
For a while, he called Olivia repeatedly, but she wasn’t answering. It frustrated him to the point where he nearly smashed his phone against the wall in anger.
That was the moment I knew I needed to get involved. I moved closer to Cyril and planted a kiss on his lips, hoping to soothe his wounded pride.
I placed my hands on his chest, feeling how turbulent his heartbeat was. I kissed him again, and this time, he reciprocated. We ended up making love on the sofa.
It was one of the best moments of my life. It wasn’t our first time, but this time, I was elated-I had finally broken through his defenses, learned his weaknesses, and, more importantly, figured out how to use them against him.
A minute later, Cyril’s phone rang. It was Olivia.
Before answering, he looked at me and said, “I love you even more. You are my lucky charm.”
It was the sweetest thing I had heard from him in a long while.
The way he looked into my eyes, I knew he was fulfilled. It was enough for him to divorce Olivia and finally be with me because I had managed to lighten his world.
“I called before, but you weren’t answering. Where are you?” Cyril’s voice was firm as he put the call on speaker.
I adjusted slightly, giving him space to focus on the conversation.
“Why are you asking? Are you tired of Rene’s company? What do you even care about? Because the last time I checked, you never wanted me again,” Olivia ranted.
Hearing my name over the phone irritated me-especially in such a mocking tone. She didn’t even consider whether I was with Cyril before throwing shades at me.
Cyril saw how upset I was and gestured for me to stay calm. I understood the assignment and obeyed. Normally, I would have reacted, but I held my tongue.
“So what now? Did I get on anyone’s nerves? Why did you suddenly refuse to speak? Wait a minute, let me guess. Your mistress is there, isn’t she?” Olivia sneered.
I was so pissed I could have taken on a full army undefeated. How I managed to stay calm after all the insults was beyond me.
Cyril barely spoke because he was too busy trying to keep me from reacting.
“Now that’s enough. You won’t speak to her in such a manner. Show some respect,” Cyril snapped, defending me.
What a relief.
It was satisfying to see him stand up for me like that-it was exactly what I needed.
“Now tell me where you are. I need to speak with you immediately,” Cyril demanded.
“A whore deserves no respect. I only respect those who deserve it. You know what they say about respect, don’t you? It’s fucking reciprocated,” Olivia spat, dropping a bombshell just when I thought she was done.
“I’m at the office, running the company you abandoned in my care,” she added before ending the call. Of course, she had to insult me one last time before answering Cyril’s question. What a girl.
I was still in shock over what Olivia had said about me. I didn’t even know how to react.
For a brief moment, I thought about venting my anger on Cyril, but I reminded myself that he wasn’t the one who had insulted me. If anyone deserved my wrath, it was Olivia. Too bad she wasn’t here.
“Look, I apologize for what she said, okay?” Cyril finally spoke after a long silence. If he wasn’t standing right next to me, I would have assumed he was being forced to apologize.
I refused to respond. I would only be deceiving myself if I pretended I had accepted his apology.
The only reason I didn’t react was my desperation. I wouldn’t let anything ruin it.
“She just told you where she was. Aren’t you going to see her?” I forced myself to speak, my tone dripping with bitterness.
“I just said I’m sorry. Please, forgive me. Okay, you know what? I’m going to hasten the divorce process,” Cyril vowed, realizing that his apology wasn’t enough.
I turned to him. “Are you sure about this? Or are you just telling me this to make me happy?”
“I’m dead serious! You know what? Once I leave this place, I’m heading straight to my lawyer’s office to proceed with everything I need to get rid of Olivia. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you,” Cyril assured me.
This time, he sounded so convincing.
I couldn’t hide my excitement. I kissed him immediately, pulling him into me until we ended up having sex again.
There was no way I was letting him leave without one final round for the road.
