“Speak up this minute or forever remain silent. I didn’t sign up for any of this. Just go straight to the point and stop beating around the bush like a headless hen,” I yelled, practically tearing into Ghost. His silent treatment was messing with my head. He knew for a fact that I hate being kept in suspense, and yet, he kept doing it as if it were nobody’s business.
“I don’t even know how to say this to you because I am pretty sure you’d be mad at me,” Ghost freaked out. He kept dragging his utterances, which didn’t sit too well with me.
I was tempted to smash my phone against the ground in anger. I decided to hold on to my anger.
“You should be lucky you are not here next to me right now. I would have smashed your head against the wall,” I threatened. It wasn’t something I would have done. I only said that to scare Ghost and force him to speak.
“We missed out on Olivia, ma’am. It wasn’t the kind of assassination operation we had envisaged,” Ghost finally confessed.
It’s safe to say that my trick worked on him after all. It was just a test of might, and he failed woefully.
“What did you just say? How can you say you missed out on her? I thought I showed you her photo?” I cried. It was the most devastating news I’ve ever heard in my life.
I never thought that it was going to turn out that way. I trusted Ghost so much, hence my reason for contacting him to do the dirty job.
Ghost came highly recommended. The person who told me about him assured me that I had nothing to worry about.
I wasn’t just disappointed; I was indeed speechless and weak.
“I don’t want to believe you are telling me the truth. Just explain to me. How did you miss out on Olivia? Who came through for her?” I asked for an uncountable amount of time.
It was difficult for me to believe that someone as skilled as Ghost won’t be able to execute someone weak as Olivia. I sensed foul play. I just couldn’t detect where the problem was coming from.
“Olivia wasn’t alone. She has got company. Some dude drove her away just when we were about to shoot her,” Ghost explained.
At the mention of the mystery guy, I knew it was Adrian. There was no need for me to ask questions further.
“Ma’am, you are quiet. Did you listen to me? I just said the target was a mystery man. You didn’t even ask me about the identity of the man I saw her with. Do you want us to push further? This time, she might be alone,” Ghost suggested. It sounded like a fantastic idea to me.
I took a moment to weigh the situation before coming to a decision. “Don’t bother yourself anymore. I don’t want anyone suspecting me. She already knows I don’t like her, and I bet she’s pointing fingers at me as we speak.”
“If you insist. Your wish is my command. Whatever you say, I am cool with it. Should you be ready to strike into action, I am just one call away,” Ghost said as he pledged his allegiance to me.
I terminated the call to enable me to focus on my thoughts. As I sat on my bed trying to figure out a way out of my mess, my phone rang. It was a call from Ghost.
I didn’t answer the phone, but I was excited that Ghost had called to break the good news to me. I was already preparing to purchase champagne to celebrate the death of Olivia.
My mind, body, and soul were ready. The only thing left for me was to hear the news from Ghost.
I waited for my phone to stop ringing because I was waiting for the perfect time to speak. Luckily for me, the opportunity arrived. I didn’t hesitate to return the call from Ghost.
“Just tell me she’s dead, and my problems will be over,” I hurriedly spoke without listening to what Ghost wanted to say. I was so confident to the extent where I assured myself that I was going to read her thoughts.
“Ma’am, what are you talking about? I never told you she was dead. I just called to tell you something critical. I feel it will be beneficial to you,” Ghost disclosed.
What a sad news for me. Here I was, thinking that my worries were over. At that point, I was regretting why I decided to answer the phone.
“What could be more significant than her death? Why did you call if you knew you had nothing important to say to me?” I flared up. I expected some good news and not something that will worsen my situation.
“I’ve got something that might be just as good as news of her death,” Ghost said confidently, reigniting a spark of hope in my heart.
“Get on with it immediately. Don’t freaking play games with me. I am not ready to entertain your tantrums,” I spoke in a placating tone.
“I’ve got photos of the man that saved her. It’s the same one she went shopping with. I saw them in compromising positions, and I feel you’re going to like it,” Ghost revealed.
For the first time in a long while, I smiled. “Send them over! What are you waiting for?”
I proceeded to end the call. Minutes later, I got a notification on my phone. It was some cozy photos of Adrian and Olivia. In the photo, they were this close to locking lips against each other.
To me, those photos were better than news of Olivia’s death. Killing her would raise suspicions, but these photos? They could destroy her reputation and shake her marriage to its core. If I showed them to Adrian, he might want to divorce her and come spend the rest of his life with me.
