ADRIAN
“Yes, I do love you, Olivia, and I am not ashamed to admit it. I will cross the seven seas for your sake. I am not a fighter, but I am ready to fight for your love regardless of the consequences that await,” I affirmed as though I was reading a poem. It took me a while to make the bold statement, but I was glad I did.
After the proclamation, I was relieved. A massive stone rolled away from my heart. It was the best five minutes of my life.
“If you love me this much, then let’s get married immediately. What are we waiting for? I don’t mind filing for a divorce from Cyril. I need to be free again. I surely deserve a better life,” Olivia said to me. She said it like she meant it.
She held me closer and kissed my hand and forehead in a romantic gesture.
Instantly, a sparkle formed in my head. It’s safe to say that Olivia has the sweetest touch ever.
I looked at her and said, “I will be glad to spend the rest of your life with you. But for now, let’s find out who’s trying to mess with you.”
She frowned and pulled herself away from me in a swift action. She wasn’t even looking at my face anymore. It’s funny how I’d suddenly become so irritating to her.
“You don’t love me. I said before that you don’t. You just proved that to me,” Olivia alleged. She somehow restored panic to my heart again, just when I thought it was all over.
I was lost for words to explain myself to Olivia. I couldn’t even convince her to save my life.
“Olivia, please, you have got to listen to me. There’s way too much important stuff to worry about right now. Can this talk about marriage wait?” I asked her. I tried getting closer, and she avoided me as though I stank.
“Like seriously, Adrian. What could be more significant than my future? Are you even listening to yourself right now? Because if you do, you will discover that you are not even making any sense. You know what? Forget about what I ever told you about this. I will fight to get Cyril’s love,” she made the drastic decision and stepped outside.
I was glad that she finally got out of the car. At the same time, I wasn’t happy that it had to be this way.
I wasn’t pleased with her decision. It may end up being her biggest regret ever. Too bad she didn’t see that from my perspective. She even forgot that we’ve got an unfinished business deal that may crumble if Cyril ever finds out about our secret relationship. He hasn’t even found out yet, and he’s already acting like he wants to drop the world on our heads.
I peeped outside the car and saw Olivia and Kate standing next to each other as their lips moved. I had a feeling that they were discussing me.
Without wasting time, I rushed to join them. The treatment I got from Olivia confirmed my suspicion about them.
As usual, only Kate greeted me with a smile, while Olivia went inside the moment she saw me.
I chuckled because I knew she couldn’t keep up ignoring me for too long. It was only a matter of time before she realized her mistake and came back to me.
“What happened to Olivia? Why was she acting cold towards me?” I stopped Kate to ask her. Although I already knew why Olivia was upset, there was a need to confirm with Kate.
“Are you seriously asking me that question? I should be asking you, Adrian. She came out of your car with a sad look. I guess you have a better explanation for that,” Kate said. It sounded like an accusation.
Deep down, I knew I was innocent. I decided not to push further because I knew it would only worsen the situation.
I tapped Kate on the shoulder and said to her, “Don’t worry, I will get this sorted out soon. It’s no big deal.”
“You better do it. My Boss is madly in love with you. It’s quite unfortunate that you are making it difficult for her,” Kate angrily said before she walked out on me.
I was left alone to ponder my thoughts. The ball was now in my court to decide what to do with it.
I stopped worrying my head and decided to go join them inside. Behold, I saw someone who nearly plucked out my eye socket.
He was the last person I expected to see. I would have doubted if anyone had told me that he would eventually become a cop. The sight of him gave me the confidence that Olivia’s case would be sorted pretty soon.
“Mathew Knowles?” I called his name just to be certain he was the one I saw.
At first, he didn’t respond, not until I called him the second time. The moment he saw me, he rushed to embrace me firmly as though we were in a relationship.
“Adrian, it’s good to see you. Where have you been?” he asked as we exchanged pleasantries.
A lot has changed about Matthew. From his voice to his physique. He used to sound like a cricket, but now he’s got a baritone voice.
He also grew taller and became more handsome than I ever imagined.
Matthew was my best friend in high school before he relocated to Germany with his family. Since then, it’s been quite difficult for me to find another friend like him again.
Seeing Matthew again restored peace to my heart once more after Olivia nearly ruined my day with her troubles.
I finally found someone I could relate to. The last time I checked, Mathew gave the best advice. We all thought he was going to become a therapist.
This is the time I need him to prove himself to me because I will need his advice on marrying Olivia.
