Rosalind met his smiling eyes, speechless.
“What do you want?” she asked.
If they had sex every day, Rosalind doubted if she could ever leave this hospital alive!
“You’re asking a question you already know the answer to.”
“But you said today… today, it would only be once!”
Ulric shrugged. “You didn’t ask me to teach you these things at first. You added requirements, so I need compensation.”
“In that case, I won’t learn.”
She didn’t want to die in bed.
Ulric looked at her, as if he couldn’t refuse her any longer. He couldn’t help but smirk, “By the way, Jake and Floyd, I want to bring them over.”
Although he still needed to rest and recover, having the two children by his side would speed up his recovery. It would also save Rosalind from worrying about them back home.
Most importantly, he had already drained Rosalind these past few days. Although he hadn’t had enough, he had to consider whether she could handle it. Now that the urgency in that aspect had eased a bit, Ulric started thinking about the children.
Especially Floyd…
He still owed that little girl five dollars!
“Did your dad ask for it?” Rosalind asked instinctively.
She thought Caesar couldn’t wait any longer.
“Our children have nothing to do with him.”
“How is that possible? He’s their grandfather.” That was something that could never change.
Just like Audrey and Caesar would always be Ulric’s parents!
“But Floyd and Jake are our own children. Where they are and who they’re with is up to us,” Ulric said softly, trying to calm the unease in her heart.
“Well, Ulric, I’ve always believed that you would be a good father.” Rosalind knew what kind of person he was, especially when she witnessed how he interacted with Jake. The pleasant and harmonious atmosphere was something she could never achieve as their biological mother.
She felt guilty for the two children. She didn’t have much time to spend with them, especially Jake. The more sensible he became, the more guilty she felt.
“Of course I will! You’re their best mother too.”
Rosalind suddenly looked up and met Ulric’s eyes. After pursing her lips, she finally spoke in a hoarse voice after a long pause, “Can you promise me one thing?”
He didn’t hesitate for a moment and nodded directly. “Sure.”
“No matter what happens in the future… between us or between you and your parents, you have to protect Floyd and Jake and love them! Even if, I mean, if we are no longer together and completely separate, and if you find someone new and possibly have other children, don’t mistreat Floyd and Jake. Can you do that?”
Ulric’s handsome face instantly darkened.
Her words made him feel as if she was about to leave him forever.
“As long as you don’t push me away, we won’t separate.”
“I’m talking about ‘if’! Don’t you understand?”
Rosalind tried to hide behind a smile, but Ulric remained serious.
“We’re going to grow old together. What you said won’t happen!”
“I just want you to promise me this. Is it so difficult? People change. No one knows what the future holds, right? Besides, everyone has to face death. You can’t stop that. So if I die, promise me that you will love our children. Can you promise that?”
Ulric fell silent for a few seconds. His deep eyes locked onto hers as he slowly said, “I won’t have any other children. Once I’m discharged from the hospital, I’ll get sterilized.”
