“What?” Rosalind thought she had misheard.
“Never mind.” B7 pulled up the hood of his sweatshirt, hiding his pale, deep-set but thin face. He returned to his computer, “Tell me what you need this restored for.”
Rosalind hurriedly said, “It contains the truth about my mother’s death.”
“Then you should take it to the police! Why come to me? I’m very expensive.”
“I know you’re expensive. I have money!” How could she dare hand this hard drive over to the police?
The Walters family’s influence in the country was something she couldn’t contend with!
If it didn’t involve Ulric’s parents, maybe she could ask him for help, but… this contained evidence accusing his family!
“I’ve had people haggle with me before, but it’s the first time someone has openly said they have money.” B7 leaned back, looking at her with interest, “You’re Ulric’s woman, aren’t you?”
“…”
“How boring.” B7 scoffed, “Thirty million dollars. Pay fifty percent upfront, and I’ll ask for the rest after it’s done.”
Thirty million…
Even though she knew hiring B7 was costly, this number still shocked Rosalind.
Seeing her hesitate, B7 chuckled, “Didn’t you just say you had money?”
“But… not that much.”
“Then what? Go ask Ulric for it! His car is still outside.” B7 looked every bit the rebellious youth, a lazy smile always on his lips as he spoke.
He had a roguish air.
Rosalind wasn’t used to dealing with young people like him and felt a bit awkward standing there.
She didn’t want to be mocked by him, but her only hope for restoring the hard drive lay with him!
“Mr. Walters and I are just colleagues now, nothing more. I can give you fifty percent first and find a way to get the rest.” Fifteen million dollars-Rosalind had that much.
She had saved quite a bit over the years.
But B7’s demand was too high.
“What if you can’t come up with the rest?”
“I’ll pay you in installments.”
B7 laughed derisively, raising his thin eyebrows, “No way. I don’t have time to chase debts.”
Rosalind pressed her lips together, sensing that he already had an answer in mind. So she asked directly, “What do you want?”
“I want to try dating an older woman.”
“…”
“If you can’t come up with the remaining balance, be my girlfriend for a month?” B7 paused and then quickly corrected himself, “No, a week will do. Women are annoying; I think I’ll lose interest in a week.”
Rosalind watched him talk to himself and felt at a loss. But she was here to ask for help.
“I’m married and have children. I don’t meet your requirements.”
B7 spread his hands; in the light, his prominent wrist bones were visible. “I’m not looking to marry you. Whether you’re married or have kids doesn’t matter to me.”
“But-”
“Don’t nag. If you don’t agree, leave and stop bothering me.” B7 placed her hard drive aside and resumed working on his own things.
Rosalind hesitated before gritting her teeth and saying, “Fine, I agree!”
She quickly calculated in her mind that she could sell off her properties and stocks if necessary. If worse came to worst, she’d borrow from Malcolm. She wouldn’t be unable to gather the remaining amount. But if she missed this chance, she might never see B7 again.
