Nelson paused with the pen in his hand, then signed the paper with a forceful stroke. “Contact Kieran and have him keep an eye on things. If anything goes wrong, he’ll bear the consequences.”
Anthony sighed inwardly. “Yes.”
Nelson was doing his best to remove all subsidiaries of the Oconnor Group from the stock market, trying to shield them from any impact. Even if foreign capital intervened, they wouldn’t gain much.
He was preparing for the worst. This wasn’t Nelson’s usual style, but at this critical moment, no other man would go to such lengths.
Regan had been exhausted recently and was hospitalized. Callie went to visit her.
The two shared a silent understanding, providing a safe space for each other.
But in the dead of night, Regan couldn’t help but ask, “How has Nelson been treating you?”
After the incident, setting aside the initial anger and disappointment, he had actually been… good.
Callie had become much more silent, her smile stiff. “I’m going to divorce him.”
Regan’s eyes widened. “Have you signed the agreement?”
No, she had proposed the divorce, but days had passed without any response from Nelson. He hadn’t mentioned divorce at all.
What she didn’t know was that Nelson had indeed received her message immediately but had smashed his phone in response.
At that time, he was in a meeting. The senior executives witnessed his fury as he smashed the phone and sneered, “Divorce? Don’t even think about it.”
Scott Group disclosed a report on equity changes, showing that besides over four billion dollars in cash, there were more than three billion dollars in pre-sales. Altogether, they had over seven billion dollars to acquire shares of the Oconnor Group.
Assets equal liabilities plus owner’s equity; this always holds true.
Scott Group was also listed on the US stock market and was a large group with substantial funds. When two tigers fight, one is bound to get hurt. Recently, Scott Group had gained more support from shareholders, who increased their stock holdings. In the next two trading days, Scott Group’s stock price hit the upper limit.
Some said Jaquan was catching up quickly and was close to success.
The loquats planted in the hospital’s back garden had borne fruit. In the early morning, covered with dew, Callie stood on tiptoe to pick one, peeled it, and put it in her mouth. The sourness made her teeth ache, and she spat it out immediately.
When she looked up again, she froze. She saw a man standing by a car not far away, his profile sharp and his expression cold. He had been watching her all along, and Callie couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
After a long time, he finally approached her and gave her a hug on that summer morning. His voice was hoarse from what must have been many meetings. “Be good. I’ll take you home.”
Callie tried to push him away. “Did you get my message?”
“No.” He tightened his grip and answered immediately.
Callie closed her eyes. “Is Oconnor Group okay?”
“You don’t need to worry about it.”
After a long silence, Callie looked into the distance. She didn’t know how long she let him hold her before she finally said, “Nelson, I want a divorce.”
As soon as she said it, the man became agitated. He grabbed her shoulders and looked down at her with bloodshot eyes full of anger. “Why?”
Was she worried he would treat her badly because of the photo incident? He hurriedly explained, “You don’t need to worry about those things. I don’t care either. I’ll handle the Oconnor family and the public. Or are you afraid the Oconnor Group will be affected…”
She interrupted him. “Do you think I slept with him? Do you believe me?”
