Charlotte continued, saying that Marilyn often embarrassed Regan in front of the Ellison family, publicly insulting her as a dog raised by the Ellison family, and so on.
The car stopped at the entrance of the Paucaster Villa, and Anthony had just finished reporting when he looked up and froze. “Isn’t that Miss Ellison?”
The person he had been thinking about appeared in reality.
Charlotte stood in the evening glow, her eyes red and pitiful. She looked towards the car, as if she had been waiting for a long time.
Nelson got out of the car and buttoned his suit jacket with one hand. “What’s wrong? Why are you crying like this?”
Charlotte cried even harder at his words and threw herself into his arms, sobbing, “Father asked me to come home and said there was something to announce. I didn’t expect it to be giving away shares. He… he gave Isaac twenty percent…”
Nelson remained expressionless. Twenty percent was already a lot.
“And then?”
“Marilyn only got fifteen percent. She’s not happy and had a big fight with… with father. She even smashed a lot of things at home, Nelson…” Charlotte cried, struggling for breath. “I don’t like them acting like this. It’s too scary.”
Nelson understood what she meant. He raised his hand and gently touched her hair. “And what about you? How much did you get?”
Charlotte’s sobbing stopped for a moment. “I… I only got ten percent, but it doesn’t matter. I don’t need it. I just want them to be okay, Nelson. I’m willing to give up my shares.”
Nelson suddenly smiled at her words. “Silly girl, do you know how much these shares are worth?”
Charlotte didn’t understand and shook her head.
His expression turned serious again. “You don’t like this kind of family?”
“Um…” Charlotte whispered softly. “I want to stay at the temple with my mother for a while, but I have nowhere to go now. Can I stay here tonight?”
The girl’s delicate appearance, crying like this, her tears falling like pearls, she knew how to touch a man’s heart. “Nelson, you’re the only one I have now.”
Nelson lowered his gaze and held her shoulders, using his fingertips to wipe away her tears. “Why cry? I never realized you were such a crybaby before.”
Charlotte’s shoulders trembled even more, feeling even more wronged.
“If you want to stay, then stay. It’s fine to stay for a few more days. I happen to be leaving tomorrow,” Nelson replied calmly as he wiped away her tears.
Charlotte was taken aback. “Where are you going?”
Nelson didn’t answer. His mind was only filled with concern for Callie.
He patted Charlotte’s shoulder and was about to signal the servant to take her inside when he suddenly noticed something was wrong. Not far ahead on the left, a familiar car had stopped at some point, and the license plate was even more familiar.
He narrowed his eyes, suddenly realizing something, and took long strides forward. Charlotte was bewildered and could only watch as he walked further away.
Callie sat in the car, her vision gradually blurring. She didn’t want to see their interaction anymore.
Just now, when Kieran had brought her back to the Paucaster Villa, before they could even get out of the car, she saw the scene of Charlotte throwing herself into Nelson’s arms.
After watching for a while, Callie suddenly realized that their relationship seemed to be getting closer. In the days they were apart, they had developed a lot of trust in each other.
She loved him, so she could feel it even more.
After narrowly escaping death, seeing such a scene made her even more upset.
Seeing Nelson approaching the car, Kieran struggled to speak, “Callie…”
Callie’s eyes welled up with tears, but she couldn’t let them fall. She picked up her hat and covered most of her face.
As Nelson leaned down, a ray of sunlight brushed across his brows and eyes, making him look handsome and mysterious. Despite his imposing presence, he lowered himself and tapped on the window covered with privacy film. “Callie… is that you?”
