Upon hearing this, Mike’s face turned extremely sour. “What is your name again?”
“Callie Marsh.”
“Callie.” He muttered the name as if recalling something. “Back then, I advised Reuben not to adopt you, but he wouldn’t listen, and now we have this disaster.”
Mike’s eyes became sharp. Sensing danger, Callie bolted for the door. Just as she reached it, Mike grabbed her hair and yanked her back, throwing her onto the sofa.
Mike pressed his cane against her with force, causing her to arch in pain.
“Mike! You were once the director of a hospital. How did you end up as the head of an entertainment club? You know whether you stepped over my father to get there. Now you want to silence me? I spit on you!”
Callie shouted loudly.
Enraged, Mike pressed harder. “Since you know how hard my journey has been, you still dare to provoke me? It seems you don’t want to live!”
It was a stark contrast; the doctor who once saved lives had now become someone who disregarded them.
Callie was in extreme pain and screamed, “Reuben is missing!”
At these words, Mike’s grip loosened, allowing her to catch her breath.
“What did you say?”
Callie noticed his change in demeanor. “I said he’s missing. I’ve used all my resources but couldn’t find him. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come to you.”
Mike took two steps back, clearly deep in thought.
“Why come to me? He was fired over a decade ago.” The wrinkles on his face were pronounced.
“I think his disappearance might be related to something from over ten years ago.”
Callie’s words hit the mark. She saw a flash of panic in Mike’s eyes.
“That’s why I came to you. Maybe you know better than I do who made him disappear.”
Mike’s aura was imposing. “I was a hospital director for ten years and the head of an entertainment club for another ten. I know both the underworld and the legitimate world. You can’t fool me.”
“I’m not trying to fool you. I just hope you don’t fool yourself.”
Callie was certain he knew something; otherwise, he wouldn’t react this way.
She walked towards the door. Just then, someone pushed it open.
Jaquan entered with a few people, standing at the doorway.
He had changed clothes, with two buttons of his shirt undone, exuding charm. Standing with his hands behind his back, he looked mature.
Someone turned on the lights, illuminating the room instantly. A disheveled Callie stood before him.
She recognized him and immediately walked behind him, whispering, “Why are you here?”
Jaquan ignored her, walked past her with a smile, and approached Mike. “Mr. Mack, long time no see.”
Mike looked displeased at being interrupted and glared at Callie. “Jaquan, your people have no manners, daring to cause trouble in Dragonstone.”
Jaquan nodded and grabbed a bottle of wine from the table. “Indeed, they lack manners. I’ll punish them on your behalf.”
As he spoke, he pushed Callie out.
Mike sneered coldly. “Do you think it’s that easy to leave after wrecking my place?”
A group of bodyguards appeared behind them, blocking Callie’s exit.
“Mr. Mack, please be magnanimous.” Jaquan had already reached Mike. With a swift motion, he smashed the bottle over Mike’s head, pouring wine down.
Jaquan’s men quickly subdued the bodyguards.
