Nelson showed no expression as he listened to the unpleasant words. Charlotte listened again, sighed quietly, then turned and walked out. When she looked up, she was startled and stepped back.
“Nelson… when did you…”
Nelson extended his hand calmly. “Give it to me.”
Charlotte’s face turned pale. She immediately hid the phone behind her back and shook her head. “Someone else gave it to me. I believe Miss Marsh’s words were taken out of context and not her true intention. Don’t take it to heart. I’ve already deleted the recording!”
Nelson did not withdraw his hand.
Fearing his expression, Charlotte nervously handed over the phone. “I really deleted it.”
Nelson took the phone and saw the chat history between Marilyn and Charlotte: “Give this to Nelson, let him see Callie’s true colors!”
Charlotte had been refusing.
He opened the recording, and it was indeed deleted.
Seeing his unreadable expression, Charlotte cautiously asked, “Nelson, are you angry?”
He returned the phone. “Does your sister often make you do such things?”
Charlotte seemed relieved that he wasn’t angry. “… Not often, just… occasionally.”
“Why didn’t you let me hear it? Maybe I would have believed it.” Callie’s voice was very recognizable.
“I don’t want to ruin your relationship with Miss Marsh in this way. Besides, she’s not that kind of person,” Charlotte said earnestly.
Her integrity made Nelson’s lips curve slightly.
“Of course, it could also be a synthesized audio.”
Nelson returned to his desk. “No, it’s something she would say.”
Sharp-tongued and never losing in a verbal exchange.
As he said this, there was no blame in his tone; rather, he seemed to enjoy it.
Charlotte frowned and left, returning with a cup of Americano. “I also want to know the answer to Miss Marsh’s last question.”
Callie’s last words were: “Do you think Nelson really sees me as her?”
Nelson paused in his signing. “Never.”
“… Never?” Charlotte lowered her eyes.
This meant that in his heart, Callie was Callie, and Maevelyn was Maevelyn. His feelings for the two women were not the same.
Charlotte couldn’t quite describe how she felt inside.
Nelson finished signing, closed the document, and handed it to her. “Deliver this document to Griffin personally.”
“Griffin?”
“Why? Griffin is also a company the Ellison family wants to collaborate with. Are you reluctant?” Nelson looked up.
Charlotte took the document and immediately said, “No, competition in business is normal. It’s just that my identity is special; it’s not appropriate for me to deliver such confidential documents.”
Nelson didn’t seem to care at all. “You’re different. I trust you.”
Those simple words carried a lot of weight.
Charlotte felt a warmth in her heart. “I’ll go right away.”
She left the office, while Nelson leaned on his desk with a complex look in his eyes.
That night, he had a dinner appointment with Griffin. The secretarial office had prepared drinks for everyone, but unexpectedly, Nelson chose only to bring Charlotte.
Everyone was somewhat surprised. “Lately, Mr. Oconnor has been bringing Charlotte to all his events. What exactly is their relationship…”
“Nelson, I can’t drink,” Charlotte said nervously outside the private room.
“I know,” Nelson replied, checking his watch. “You only make tea.”
Charlotte’s face turned red. “You’re teasing me.”
