After speaking, he leaned down and whispered something in Ahmad’s ear, whose expression changed from suspicion to hesitation.
“Really?”
“Really.”
Ahmad gestured for the bodyguards to withdraw and strode away first.
Freed from her restraints, Callie shook her hands vigorously and cursed.
Jaquan strode forward. “How did you get involved with Ahmad?”
Callie walked straight out. “Don’t tell me you’re really here on a business trip.”
“Would you believe me if I said I came to play the hero?” Jaquan’s tone was relaxed as he followed her.
Callie glared at him. “Now that you’ve saved me, you can leave.”
The bodyguards Nelson assigned to her were waiting outside, led by Kieran. Seeing them, he stepped forward. “Ma’am, the plane is about to take off.”
Callie almost ran to the boarding gate, but suddenly her hand was empty-Jaquan had taken her boarding pass.
He held two passes, comparing them as he spoke. “What a coincidence, we’re on the same flight.”
Callie was almost incredulous, and Kieran raised his guard. “Mr. Scott, this is inappropriate.”
Jaquan smirked. “Why? It’s not the Oconnor family’s private jet. You can’t stop me from boarding.”
With that, he handed his boarding pass to the staff.
On the plane, just before turning off her phone, Callie made a call. “Officer.”
Jaquan was adjusting his seatbelt beside her and choked on his saliva when he heard.
“I want to report that Ahmad from the Ellison family illegally detained me at the airport. Oh, it’s fine now, but he left me with an indelible psychological shadow.”
Jaquan slowly turned his head, his expression changing from surprise to admiration.
“I suspect he’s related to my father’s disappearance. Didn’t you ask me last time if I had any enemies? Well, now I do.” Callie spoke smoothly. “You’ll investigate, right? Then I’m relieved. Please notify me immediately if there’s any result.”
She hung up the phone and obediently turned it off, but her expression was resolute.
Jaquan tugged at the corner of his mouth. “You reported Ahmad to the police?”
“Why not? He did detain me… for three minutes.” Callie held a grudge.
“… Ahmad isn’t someone a small-time cop can handle.”
This time Callie laughed out loud. She turned her head. “Do I look naive? Of course I know that. But causing a little trouble for the Ellison family seems nice, doesn’t it?”
Jaquan had nothing to say. “Do you need me to find some media to expose this?”
“Can you?”
She was excited.
Jaquan couldn’t be bothered with her. “Get lost.”
The plane soared into the sky, gradually moving away.
Nelson stood by the car, a cigarette between his fingers, looking up at the planes leaving the airport, coldness enveloping him.
Anthony arrived late and saw this scene, pausing for a moment.
“Mr. Oconnor, we just got word that Jaquan is also on Mrs. Oconnor’s plane.”
Nelson didn’t seem surprised. “Did they move that batch of goods at the port?”
“They did, coinciding with the plane’s takeoff time.”
Nelson coldly snorted. “An eighty million dollar deal, held back for so long without selling-it must be black market goods. Ylosea is already under tight surveillance. Jaquan wouldn’t just leave it; he’s personally escorting it. He’s a top player.”
Anthony listened to the analysis. “Mrs. Oconnor doesn’t know about this. Should we inform her?”
“She’ll know as soon as she gets off the plane.”
“Will there be any danger? Jaquan is a desperate man.”
Nelson tugged at the corner of his mouth and suddenly found the cigarette bitter. “He wouldn’t bear to hurt Callie.”
