Callie shouted hoarsely, “Is he the only desperado in all of Ylosea?”
Jaquan paused in wiping his tears and realized, “Are you talking about me?”
By this time, Reuben had been missing for twenty-four hours, and Callie was anxious, looking utterly haggard.
Jaquan pinched her face, “How long has it been since you slept?”
“None of your business! I’m leaving.” Callie pushed him away and staggered to her feet, heading out.
Jaquan gently pulled her back to her original spot, “Are you going out to get yourself killed? Since they kidnapped your father, it’s not just for money. They want to use him as leverage against you or Nelson.”
Since it was for leverage, they would definitely make themselves known.
These words somewhat calmed Callie, but she was still anxious, “What if they hurt Reuben?”
Reuben had undergone surgery and couldn’t withstand any torment.
Jaquan firmly pressed her head onto his shoulder, “Thinking about it won’t help. Get some sleep.”
Strangely enough, perhaps due to the effect of the alcohol, Callie was indeed exhausted and fell asleep without realizing it.
Jaquan didn’t dare move a muscle. It felt like a priceless treasure was resting on his shoulder. He cautiously turned his head to look at her sleeping face, feeling helpless for the first time.
He raised his phone and took a photo.
A moment later, he looked at the photo and smiled contentedly.
Callie didn’t sleep long, about two hours. She woke up rubbing her neck, feeling sore all over. When she looked up and saw Jaquan, she jumped two meters away, “What are you doing?”
“Using and discarding me, that’s you.” Jaquan rubbed his shoulder.
At that moment, the door of the private room was pushed open, “Mr. Scott, something’s wrong! Scarface and his men have been ambushed and tied up!”
Jaquan’s playful smile vanished, “Who did it?”
The waiter glanced at Callie and then at Jaquan, “Nelson Oconnor.”
Callie’s face changed too. She immediately walked out of the private room. Jaquan’s long legs moved faster; he overtook her and grabbed her arm, “It’s not suitable for you to appear now. Leave through the back door.”
Callie hesitated for a second, “What if he’s here for me?”
It felt like catching an affair.
Jaquan frowned decisively, “If he were looking for you, he wouldn’t have tied up Scarface.”
Callie reacted quickly; Nelson must have been tracing Shamar’s clues and found this place!
“I have to go.”
Jaquan couldn’t stop her, “If you can handle the consequences, then follow me.”
He descended the stairs rapidly, with Callie holding onto the railing to keep up.
Scarface was tied up in the lobby of Sky Pavilion. People coming and going showed fear because the man in the center, with a face full of menace and surrounded by bodyguards, exuded a murderous aura.
Scarface was bound to a pillar, cursing loudly, “Nelson, if I get a chance, I’ll kill your whole family!”
Nelson stood with his hands behind his back, commanding respect. With a mere glance, a bodyguard lashed Scarface with a whip, making him scream in pain.
Nelson had no intention of leaving any escape route while causing trouble on Jaquan’s turf.
“Nelson, what’s going on here?” Jaquan entered the crowd with a cold smile on his lips.
“Since you can’t discipline his subordinates, I’ll do it for you,” Nelson said as he turned slightly.
His gaze shifted from Jaquan to the woman behind him. Upon recognizing her, his eyes darkened ominously.
Callie didn’t flinch. She met his gaze with questioning eyes.
However, in the next second, she also saw the person standing beside him-a woman.
