The driver looked at her puzzled, “Miss, are you catching someone cheating or asking for money?”
This was a wealthy area, and he had many clients with strange requests.
Callie sighed, “Just follow him.”
“Alright.” The driver, an experienced hand, floored the gas pedal and steadily followed the Porsche ahead. It was impressive how he made the SUV drive with the spirit of a Tesla.
Callie took a taxi, not using one from the Paucaster Villa, so Nelson didn’t notice he was being followed.
What puzzled her was that the route he was taking was clearly not the one to the old mansion.
The Porsche drove for a while and suddenly stopped by the roadside to pick someone up. Callie frowned as she saw it was Anthony, holding some documents and leaning in to say something to Nelson.
After handing over the documents, Nelson drove off again.
Callie couldn’t understand what kind of documents required Nelson to pick them up personally.
As the driver passed Anthony, Callie bent down to hide herself. Looking down, she realized she was still in her pajamas, hastily covered with a coat.
It did look like she was catching someone cheating…
But it was strange; Nelson didn’t meet anyone else but went straight to an institution with the documents. From a distance, Callie saw it was a DNA testing facility.
What was he testing?
From a distance, Callie saw Nelson get out of the car and walk inside with the documents.
Seeing him enter, she finally dared to get out of the car. “Wait for me here.”
The driver hesitated, “Miss, this will cost extra.”
“… I’ll pay you double.”
“Alright!”
Callie quietly entered the testing facility but was stopped at the front desk. “Hello, do you have an appointment?”
She raised her eyes slightly and clicked her tongue, “An appointment is required?”
The receptionist looked her up and down politely. “This is a private institution; no entry without an appointment.”
So private, no wonder Nelson came here.
Callie’s mind raced. “Does this place provide results quickly?”
“Yes, generally within two hours.”
Two hours… She could wait and see if Nelson came out after two hours…
“Sorry, I’m waiting for someone.”
Callie found a corner to sit in and waited for two hours. During this time, she couldn’t help but wonder if Nelson was there to test Maevelyn’s DNA against the Ellison family’s.
She really came back; they really met, and he had doubts and wanted to verify it again.
Callie timed it right and left the institution just before Nelson came out. She stood in a corner outside and watched quietly.
“Mr. Oconnor, let’s meet at another place next time. I won’t see you off today,” said a man in a white coat, shaking hands with Nelson.
Nelson nodded; the document bag in his hand was no longer the same as before.
Callie hid back in the car and watched Nelson’s direction through the window.
He stood on the steps, took out the document to glance at it, seemingly prepared for what he would see. His expression was complex, caught between acceptance and resignation.
Callie saw him take a deep breath and drive off again.
The driver observed her expression and asked softly, “… Is your husband having an illegitimate child outside?”
Callie almost lost her composure. “Sir, stop gossiping and just drive.”
After leaving the DNA testing facility, Nelson went straight to the old mansion and this time really brought Reuben back.
Seeing him go up the mountain, Callie knew she couldn’t follow any further. He was sharp and would definitely notice.
“Take me back to Paucaster Villa.”
