Callie naturally knew Beethoven’s famous piece. She nodded.
The two sat at the piano, exchanging a glance.
The soothing piano melody flowed out, enchanting the listeners.
They had never practiced together, but their four-hand performance was exceptionally harmonious, as if played by one person.
A handsome man and a beautiful woman sitting together always made a pleasing sight, and many people recorded videos.
When the piece ended, even Callie herself was surprised at how smoothly it went. She looked at Nelson in delight, and he gazed back with eyes full of affection and understanding.
“Are you tired?”
“A little.”
“Then let’s go home.”
Hand in hand, they left the stage. Soon, videos from the annual party were posted on social media and quickly went viral. The video was blurry, showing only glimpses of the two playing the piano seamlessly through the crowd. They indeed looked like a perfect match.
No one mocked Mrs. Oconnor anymore. Everyone realized that the position of Mrs. Oconnor belonged solely to Callie, and she would hold it firmly.
As the New Year approached, the festive atmosphere was already present on the streets. Callie grew tired of sitting in the car and insisted on walking with Nelson. He couldn’t refuse her, so he let her change out of her high heels and put on her coat before agreeing to get out of the car.
“Nelson, such peaceful days were something I could never have dreamed of before,” Callie said as she walked slowly, holding his arm.
“Now you have everything. Aren’t you happy?” Nelson slowed his pace to match hers.
“Of course I’m happy. Now that Reuben is awake, I have my studio, and you are with me. Everything is good.”
“So I’m placed last,” Nelson huffed.
Callie hugged his arm tightly and pouted, “You are first!”
“In these matters, it doesn’t matter if I’m not first,” Nelson said as he reached out to pinch her cheek. She had gained a bit of weight today, which was good. “How about having a child next year?”
It was a half-joking remark, but it was hard to tell how serious he was. Callie looked into his eyes for a few moments and then nodded happily, “Okay.”
Nelson was somewhat surprised that she agreed so quickly.
“This year we lost a baby. I wonder if he would be willing to come back to me,” Callie said sadly whenever this topic came up.
Nelson hugged her tightly. “You are so wonderful; he surely would.”
“Really?”
“Of course.”
The moon hung high in the sky, illuminating their path ahead. Despite their happiness, Callie always felt a hint of lurking danger.
At that moment, Anthony, who had been following them, suddenly stepped forward. “Mr. Oconnor,” he said, handing over a phone with an incoming call.
Nelson didn’t want to take any calls tonight and shot a warning glance at Anthony. But Anthony wouldn’t have approached if it wasn’t urgent.
Callie understood. “You should take it.”
Nelson nodded and took the phone to answer the call away from her.
Callie stood by, idly rubbing her hands. During the wait, her own phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number. She hesitantly answered, “Hello?”
“Callie.” The voice on the other end was filled with anger.
She froze and didn’t respond.
“Using the piano skills I taught you to play a duet with another man.” It was a dangerous statement.
He had seen the video.
Jamir’s cold laugh came through the line. “During those few minutes, did you think of me?”
Callie closed her eyes and replied coldly, “No.”
“Callie.” It was a warning tone; he had seen the video and couldn’t control his emotions.
