Callie knew he could do it.
“Jaquan, I can’t persuade you to let go of your hatred, but your father, he did make a mistake. Didn’t he?”
Hearing this, Jaquan turned his head immediately, a smile tugging at his lips as if he had heard a joke. “Time’s up, I have to go see him.”
The prison gates slowly opened, and before Callie could get a clear look, the figure had disappeared.
She gripped her phone tightly, typing several times before finally sending the message: Still very curious, what grave mistake did Jaquan’s father make to be sentenced to life?
She wondered if Nelson had boarded his flight yet.
Five minutes later, Callie received a long voice message.
Nelson explained that years ago, the Scott Group and Oconnor Group were rivals. After taking over Oconnor Group, his father did many things to seek development, including waiting outside the Scott family’s gate for a whole month to gain their approval.
The contract was signed, and Oconnor Group rose to prominence.
At that time, Dale was still in power. During the collaboration, he couldn’t stand the Scott family and resorted to underhanded tactics, eventually driving the then-leader to commit suicide.
By the time Nelson’s father found out, it was too late.
Later, Jaquan’s father took over and planted corporate spies in Oconnor Group for revenge, inciting internal crises that led to Nelson’s father’s sudden illness and death.
Nelson was studying abroad at the time. To take over Oconnor Group, he completed all his courses within six months and returned home to shoulder the responsibility.
The corporate spies Zachery had planted were not completely eradicated. Taking advantage of Oconnor Group’s instability, they embezzled billions of dollars.
He probably didn’t expect Nelson to be such a formidable executor. Nelson decisively rooted out the spies and gathered evidence to send Zachery to prison.
Due to the large sum involved, Zachery was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Nelson handled everything cleanly and left no room for Jaquan to rescue Zachery.
After listening, Callie understood that it was a cycle of revenge.
Both sides had their reasons for revenge, but ultimately, it all started with Dale’s mistake.
-Over time, it’s hard to tell who the hatred is really directed at anymore.
Nelson replied.
Callie felt heavy-hearted. The business world is like a battlefield; many decisions affect people’s destinies.
In fact, Nelson and Jaquan were both innocent in their own ways.
-Why did you suddenly ask about this?
Callie replied: You mentioned Shamar before you left, and it suddenly came to mind.
-I’m on the plane now. See you when I get back.
Callie closed her phone and continued staring at the prison gate. She asked the driver, “Does Mr. Scott come here often?”
The driver was somewhat wary, scrutinizing her for a long time before answering, probably thinking she had a close relationship with Jaquan. “He comes once every two months, mostly in the middle of the month.”
Callie counted the days.
Jaquan walked out from inside. He was wearing a black coat with his hands in his pockets, walking down the empty long street, looking particularly lonely.
He rarely wore such dark clothes.
“Why did you come out so quickly?” Callie asked.
Jaquan picked up a bottle of water, twisted it open, and took a sip. “How long should I stay?”
“The news of me marrying Marilyn is enough to keep him happy for two months.”
Callie didn’t know what to say.
“Speaking of which, after going in there, he aged very quickly. Every two months, I almost don’t recognize him.”
The car started again. Callie looked dazed and suddenly said, “Shamar came looking for you.”
