Callie returned to Paucaster Villa Complex, arriving just a bit later than Nelson.
“Where is Mr. Nelson?” Callie asked the servant as she put down her bag and took off her coat.
“In the study, discussing matters. We have a guest,” Nancy replied, carefully putting away Callie’s coat.
“A guest?” Callie frowned. “Who is it?”
“I heard Mr. Oconnor call him… Shamar.”
Shamar had come, but it was already very late. Why would he come at this hour?
Callie nodded to show she understood. “Make a pot of tea. Bring it to me after I finish my bath.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
The study table was covered with confidential documents related to the Oconnor Group. In the Paucaster Villa Complex, Nelson never hid anything from Callie, leaving these documents out in the open.
But Shamar, standing a few steps away from the desk, couldn’t bring himself to take a look.
Callie walked to the door with a tray of tea. Before she could knock, she saw Shamar suddenly drop to his knees on the hard marble floor. He looked up at the man sitting leisurely in the main seat.
“Nelson, my father has lost his mind and lacks boundaries in many things. He will change. Please give him another chance,” Shamar pleaded quickly and earnestly.
“For the sake of our grandfather, for the sake of our family, can you let this go, Nelson?”
Sweat beaded on his forehead as he faced Nelson, who sat in the shadows, completely unsure of himself.
Callie frowned. Shamar, though afraid of Nelson, usually maintained his gentlemanly demeanor. For him to kneel like this, the matter must be serious.
“Shamar, among the younger generation of our family, I had the highest expectations for you. But everything you’re doing now disappoints me,” Nelson said, casually twirling a pen in his hand. His eyes were indifferent but exuded authority.
“He is still my father…”
Nelson nodded, a look of realization crossing his face. “By blood relation, I am his nephew, yet he showed no mercy.”
Shamar grew more anxious and crawled forward a few steps on his knees. He grabbed Nelson’s trouser leg and said urgently, “The Oconnor Group has stabilized and won’t face another crisis like before. Nelson, my father can’t stir up any more trouble.”
Nelson remained silent. He slowly lifted his leg and pressed his toe against Shamar’s chin, lifting it up. “Your actions make me wonder how much you were involved in this matter.”
Shamar was filled with fear. He wanted to shake his head but was immobilized by Nelson’s foot, looking utterly pathetic.
“Colluding with outsiders to destabilize the Oconnor Group’s foundation is an act of betrayal. Not just our grandfather, but even in the afterlife, how could you face our father?” Nelson’s voice grew louder with the last few words.
Shamar trembled. “I never colluded with foreign forces to destabilize the Oconnor Group…”
Nelson said nothing. He knew the truth.
The hardships from a few months ago were still fresh in his mind. He was a vengeful person and intended to settle each score.
Settling it with Dale had brought Shamar into the fray.
“Nelson! My father was used. When Jaquan came to him and claimed to have the Ellison family’s backing, he dared to act. If no one had incited him, he would never have had the courage!”
Forced to look up for too long, Shamar’s jaw nearly dislocated. As he spoke, drool dripped from his mouth, stripping away any semblance of a business elite.
He looked more like a dog begging for mercy!
