“Swipe the card, please. Thank you, boss.” Nelson smiled and took out his bank card.
Seeing the money credited, the shop owner was overjoyed.
Soon, Callie realized something. The bracelet looked nice, but it jingled incessantly as she walked, the bells ringing constantly.
“Isn’t it too noisy?” She was particularly conscious of the looks from passersby.
Nelson held her hand tighter, with a confident look in his eyes. “With the bells, I won’t have to worry about losing you.”
Callie felt a warm happiness in her heart.
They hadn’t walked far when they ran into Marilyn.
Marilyn was a social expert and naturally understood the importance of resource sharing at times like these. Nelson had brought so many talented people over, and she knew how to make use of them.
She was beautiful, had status and presence, making it easy for these high-level employees to be captivated by her. If things went well, they might serve the Ellison family in the future.
So today, she had invited a young man for a walk.
Coincidentally, this young man was the head of venture capital management at Oconnor Group, a top talent Nelson had personally recruited from abroad years ago.
The two were having a good conversation over coffee when they looked up and saw Nelson and Callie.
Standing together, they looked very well-matched.
Marilyn’s emotions churned, and she was momentarily stunned.
The man beside her stood up. “Mr. Oconnor, what a coincidence.”
Nelson nodded, his gaze playful. “What are you doing here?”
The man quickly distanced himself from the situation. “Oh, Miss Ellison invited me for a cup of coffee. It gets quite boring at the villa.”
Marilyn stood up. “Yes.”
Nelson nodded and didn’t ask further, making a gentlemanly gesture. “Please continue.”
In fact, Nelson’s expression wasn’t very pleasant. After walking past them for some distance, Callie carefully observed his expression, feeling a bit jealous.
Was Nelson jealous because he saw Marilyn with another man?
He didn’t speak, so Callie also remained silent. The atmosphere between them grew colder than before.
As they walked further, dusk approached, and the evening breeze carried a hint of chill. Callie instinctively tried to pull her hand back.
Nelson held her hand even tighter and turned his head. “If you’re upset, why don’t you ask?”
So he noticed everything.
Callie felt bitter. “You’re troubled by other matters; I didn’t want to disturb you.”
At that moment, Nelson made a phone call. “Keep a close watch on Marilyn and the director’s interactions. I want every word they say.”
Callie withdrew her hand and put it in her cold pocket.
She walked ahead on her own.
Walking too fast, she stumbled and almost fell to the ground. A large hand steadied her clumsiness and asked with a half-smile, “Are you angry?”
Nelson had caught up with her in big strides. Callie’s breathing became rapid, and her eyes stung from the wind.
“Why be so serious? What are you angry about?” Nelson tenderly pulled her in front of him and wiped her face clean.
His tone was so gentle that Callie couldn’t find words to respond.
Nelson was very patient, looking into her eyes as he spoke slowly. “You know what kind of presence the Ellison family has in Ylosea.”
Without waiting for her response, he continued, “It’s enough to threaten Oconnor Group. What do you think would happen if my people went to serve the Ellison family?”
Callie half-understood. “You’re worried about corporate espionage.”
She didn’t fully grasp it, but Marilyn understood very well.
At this point, Marilyn had already stood up and said goodbye to the man. “Let’s talk again next time if there’s an opportunity. The Ellison family would be a good employer; please consider it.”
