Chapter 615: No Privacy

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2025-2-7

“Mrs. Scott, those were in the past. Bringing them up will only make things awkward for Mr. Scott.”
Callie listened without getting angry. Instead, she retorted calmly, exuding confidence.
Marilyn smirked, her eyes fixated on the woman before her like silk entwined, “This round, you indeed won, Callie. You have quite the skill to keep Nelson around you.”
Callie was puzzled, “Mrs. Scott, you’re wrong. We are never in a competition. The marriage between you and Mr. Scott was decided by your family. It has nothing to do with me.”
Just then, a waiter brought coffee. She took it and stirred it absentmindedly with a spoon.
“If you’re dissatisfied with this marriage, you shouldn’t take it out on me.”
The early winter afternoon sun was warm, enveloping Callie in a gentle glow.
“Today’s Ylosea headline: Mrs. Oconnor defected at the negotiation table, causing significant losses to Oconnor Group,” Marilyn suddenly read aloud, resting one hand on the chair and slowly massaging her temple, “Is this true?”
Callie pressed her lips together. Nelson was right; she was now Mrs. Oconnor, and every move she made was under scrutiny. She had to be cautious.
“Mrs. Scott, you got the news quite timely.” Anthony should have blocked the news immediately.
“Besides being Mrs. Scott, I am also the future heiress of the Ellison family.”
Before returning to the Ellison family, Marilyn worked in finance and had informants in many places. It wasn’t surprising she got this news.
She repeated the word ‘heiress’ in front of Callie just to assert her status.
Unfortunately, Callie didn’t care, “But as far as I know, this news hasn’t spread. Mrs. Scott, it’s too early for you to mock me.”
“It hasn’t spread yet, but what if I spread it?” Marilyn raised an eyebrow.
The coffee was sickeningly sweet as it touched Callie’s lips. She frowned, “If you really dared, you wouldn’t have bothered to meet me here.”
She had figured out Marilyn’s intentions.
“I didn’t have this intention before you arrived, but now I do,” Marilyn smiled. “I just received news that the man you defected against at the negotiation table is from Anbusea’s Quinn family. The future head of the Quinn family has returned to the country, and he happens to be your first love from university, Jamir.”
Callie seethed with anger. How did all her past affairs get dug up so quickly?
It was one thing for Nelson to know, but even Marilyn knew. Was there no privacy?
Callie forced down the overly sweet coffee, “So what?”
“Does Nelson know about this?”
Callie remained silent.
“Seems like he does.”
“Jamir’s return at this critical moment is quite subtle.”
“What does it have to do with me?” Callie responded flatly.
Though it did seem somewhat related, so what?
“Mrs. Oconnor indeed has great charm,” Marilyn smiled seductively, “Let’s see what stories unfold in the future.”
Callie felt uneasy, “If Mrs. Scott came just to say these things, then I won’t stay any longer.”
With that, she stood up but caught sight of a man’s figure as she turned. He wore a sheepskin vest, his limbs long and his back broad. His elegant demeanor was unmatched in Ylosea.
Jaquan nodded and greeted a noblewoman before walking up to Callie with respect and courtesy, “Mrs. Oconnor.”
