The restaurant owner’s face darkened instantly. He stared at the check in Bruce Peters’ hand and reached out to grab it.
With a fierce roar, he shouted, “What? You think you can humiliate me with money? Do you even know how much my restaurant is worth?”
“Wait!” The owner’s expression shifted as he counted the digits on the check. “Ten… hundred… thousand… million… Five million! Holy crap!”
“Is this check real?” he asked, his tone completely changed.
“Of course, it’s real! Do I look like someone who needs to fake a check?” Bruce sneered.
The owner’s face lit up. “Well, in that case, carry on! I won’t disturb you anymore.” He let out a sly laugh before scurrying out of the restaurant.
But after just a few steps, he seemed to remember something. Nodding to himself, he muttered, “No, I have to roll away. Otherwise, I won’t feel at ease with this money!”
Without another word, the owner lay down on the ground and rolled out of his own restaurant, leaving the crowd stunned.
Perhaps, money really could make the world spin. And when it came to people? Even more so.
Bruce Peters scoffed, thinking to himself, You want to play games with me? I’ll crush you.
With the owner’s ridiculous display behind him, Bruce straightened his back, feeling his confidence return. He strutted over to Kayden, his steps arrogant and deliberate.
The moment he saw Leah and Amy sitting beside Kayden, he couldn’t help but curse, “You ugly bastard! Damn, you’re something else. Audrey’s not enough for you? Now you’ve got two young girls with you?”
As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. Even Bruce had to admit, Amy was quite the beauty.
Two beautiful girls sat across from Kayden, and from the looks of it, they’d both been charmed by him. Bruce, rich as he was, always had women at his beck and call. But how could this guy, of all people, manage to snag such pretty girls?
And yet, here they were.
“Damn it! You’re telling me this guy can pull girls like that? Where’s the justice in this world?”
Bruce’s outburst startled Leah and Amy, who shrank back behind Kayden in fear. Leah frowned slightly, her thoughts racing.
Audrey-that teacher from earlier. Could it be that Kayden had something going on with her?
The more she thought about it, the more sense it made. When Audrey had come to see her and Kayden earlier, there had been hostility in her tone. She’d even accused Kayden of deceiving her. It was obvious-Audrey had been jealous. She’d wanted to break them apart and take Kayden for herself.
“Damn it!” Leah blurted out, finally piecing it together.
Kayden, however, remained calm. He casually picked up a piece of food, ate it slowly, and asked, “Is this all you’ve got? If there’s anyone else, call them over. Don’t waste my time-I’ll deal with them all at once.”
The sheer confidence in his tone was staggering. His words carried an undeniable air of dominance.
Bruce Peters’ face twitched with rage. He let out a cold laugh and said, “You idiot. Do you even know who you’re dealing with? These people-they’re cultivators. Do you have any idea what that means?”
Cultivators.
Hearing those words, Kayden’s eyes narrowed slightly.
No wonder these men exuded such an unusual aura. They were cultivators. If Bruce hadn’t mentioned it, Kayden might not have noticed. They were so weak that, in his eyes, they barely stood out from ordinary people.
Bruce, noticing Kayden’s lack of reaction, sneered. “I can tell by the look on your face that you don’t know what cultivators are. Let me educate you. Cultivators are people who live by the rule of strength. These guys? Each one of them can take on a hundred men by themselves. I know it’s hard for someone like you to believe, but you’ll see soon enough.”
Bruce spoke with such smugness, as if he’d already won.
If only he knew Kayden had recently wiped out an entire Hermit Sect. Would he still be this arrogant?
Kayden, growing impatient, said calmly, “I don’t care if they’re cultivators or not. If you’ve got more, bring them all here. I’ll handle them together. Stop wasting my time. I don’t have the luxury to spend it on you.”
Bruce was on the verge of exploding. Even at death’s door, this guy was still acting tough?
“Boy, you’re something else! I admire people like you-risking their lives just to act cool!” Bruce gave him a mocking thumbs-up before turning to one of the suited men.
“Mr. Alfredson,” he said, addressing a short-haired man in his thirties, “this is the guy who beat me up. I was with my girlfriend, minding my own business, when he barged in, stole her from me, and claimed her as his own. And when I tried to confront him about it, he attacked me. And now? He’s already dumped my girlfriend and is chasing after two younger girls. This guy has no sense of decency!”
Bruce’s fabricated story was so detailed that it almost sounded believable.
Behind Kayden, Leah’s eyes widened. She whispered, “Kayden, is it true? Did you really have something with Audrey?”
Before Kayden could respond, Amy jumped in. “No way. He’s being framed. I don’t think your boyfriend’s that kind of person.”
Leah clenched her tiny fists and punched Kayden lightly in the back. “It better not be true! If it is, you’re in big trouble. You won’t get away with it!” She pouted angrily, her tone both playful and serious.
“I mean it! If this turns out to be true, I’ll tell my sister. Let’s see how she deals with you!” Leah leaned in close to Kayden’s ear, whispering like she was sharing some grand secret.
Kayden chuckled coldly and shook his head, ignoring her. He calmly picked up another bite of food and chewed it slowly, his demeanor completely unbothered.
The man Bruce referred to as Mr. Alfredson studied Kayden’s calmness. He let out a sneer and said, “This kid’s got quite the attitude.”
“Tell me about it, Mr. Alfredson! He even kissed my girlfriend right in front of me-forced himself on her!” Bruce added, his tone indignant.
Mr. Alfredson’s eyes narrowed into slits. With a cold laugh, he said, “If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s men who steal other people’s women and two-time. This guy deserves to die.”
He turned to Kayden, his voice sharp. “Boy, based on your tone earlier, you don’t seem to think much of cultivators. Is that right?”
