“Ah!” Mary Mayfield gasped, her eyes wide with shock. “You’re only nineteen, and someone took your first kiss? Who was it? How dare he!”
“Let’s go. I’ll find him and make him pay!” Mary Mayfield rolled up her sleeves as though she was about to throw down.
Daphne quickly grabbed Mary, holding her back. “Wait, calm down. You don’t even know the full story yet.”
“What story? You’re still so young, and he stole your first kiss? He can’t be a good person. Let me tell you, Daphne, there are plenty of bad men out there. They look all innocent and quiet, but they’re only after one thing-you!” Mary Mayfield was now worked up, her sense of justice on full display.
“Listen, Mary, let me explain. It wasn’t that he stole my first kiss. I kissed him first, on my own,” Daphne said, lowering her head in embarrassment.
“You kissed him first?” Mary blinked in disbelief.
Daphne was famous for being fiery and bold, but she initiated the kiss? That was completely out of character.
When Mary saw how red Daphne’s face was, she knew her cousin wasn’t joking.
“Yes,” Daphne mumbled. “I kissed him first.”
“Who is this guy? He must have some serious charm if he managed to get you to give up your first kiss willingly,” Mary said, genuinely curious.
Daphne hesitated, her face still flushed. “Well, he’s the one who saved my dad-he’s a miracle doctor.”
A flash of realization crossed Mary’s face. “Wait, are you telling me that after you kissed him, he decided to treat uncle?”
“I’m not sure,” Daphne replied, shaking her head. “I don’t know if it’s related, but after I kissed him, he agreed to help.”
“Unbelievable!” Mary exclaimed. “So you gave up your first kiss just to save uncle, is that it?”
“I don’t know,” Daphne said again, shrugging.
Mary fumed. “If that’s the case, then that guy is even more despicable. If he only agreed to help uncle because you kissed him, that’s just vile, so shameless!”
Daphne was still unsure, so she didn’t respond.
After a few moments of brooding, Mary changed the subject. “By the way, does he like you?”
“I don’t know,” Daphne replied, exasperated.
Another “I don’t know.” Mary’s patience was starting to wear thin.
“I see, you really have no idea, do you?” Mary said with a sly grin. “Looks like you are in love with him.”
Daphne didn’t even try to hide it. “I like him. After all, I kissed him first.”
“But you still don’t know if he likes you back, right?”
Daphne bit her lip and nodded. “Right.”
“Well, can you tell me what it feels like to like someone?” Mary asked, her eyes full of curiosity.
Although Mary often acted carefree and unrestrained, she had never truly fallen for anyone, and her question was sincere.
Daphne’s gaze softened as she looked out the window, a dreamy look on her face. “Liking someone is strange. He didn’t flatter me, and he even ignored me at times. But for some reason, I was drawn to that. Sometimes, liking someone has nothing to do with how good they are to you-it’s because they’re just so… impressive.”
Daphne’s voice became distant, as if lost in her thoughts. “He’s so excellent, in a way that you can’t even imagine. Every little thing he does, every movement, it’s enough to make you mesmerized.”
Then, she leaned in closer to Mary, lowering her voice to a whisper. “I even had the thought that, if he wanted, I’d give myself to him. Just like that. I’d offer him everything, without hesitation.”
Mary’s eyes widened. She sat back, clearly stunned by Daphne’s confession.
“Wow, Daphne!” she exclaimed, giving a thumbs-up. “I’m seriously impressed! You’re only nineteen, and you’re thinking like this already! I gotta say, I’m impressed!”
Daphne shot her a look. “What’s wrong with nineteen? In ancient times, people got married at sixteen!”
Mary raised an eyebrow. “Alright, alright! You win. But you’ve got to take me to see him. I want to see if this guy really has the kind of charm that could make you fall for him like this.”
Daphne sighed. “He’s not in Vernon anymore.”
Daphne had already sent people looking for him over the past few days, but it seemed like he had left the city.
Daphne raised an eyebrow. “Well, enough about him. What about you? You’re all dressed up-looking sexy as usual. Did something interesting happen on your way here? Did anyone sneak a peek at your black stockings?”
Daphne’s eyes flickered with mischief as she looked at Mary’s black stockings. “Maybe someone even ripped a hole in them. Who knows?”
Mary Mayfield, beautiful and elegant, was used to attention. Raised in a high-class family with access to luxury skincare and treatments, she was always impeccably groomed.
But she enjoyed teasing others, especially when they found her irresistible and couldn’t help but stare.
Whenever she traveled, she deliberately dressed provocatively, wanting to catch the eyes of men.
In fact, her outfit during the previous visit to Vernon had been a mini skirt that revealed her long, white legs. She had worn a low-cut top to show off her smooth skin, which had caused a man to follow her from the station to the park, only for her to have him arrested by the John family’s bodyguards.
She had a mischievous side, always finding it fun to play with the attention of others.
As they laughed about it, Daphne suddenly turned the tables.
“Alright, alright,” Mary said, trying to regain her composure. “No more about me. Let me tell you about something more interesting. Something that happened on the plane. It was a lot more intriguing than anything I’ve ever experienced.”
Daphne’s curiosity piqued. “Go on,” she urged.
Mary’s eyes sparkled as she spoke. “I met a man on the plane. A unique one. He had this aura about him… an aura of someone who could control everything. It was like he had seen it all, done it all. And what really struck me was the way he carried himself-the kingly confidence in his eyes. You just knew he could handle anything.”
Daphne’s eyes widened as Mary described Kayden Scott.
