Chapter 73

Book:Rose & Thorn: The Perfect Duo Published:2025-2-7

Damian tapped his foot on the ground, waiting for his wife to leave. He keeps glancing at his watch to see the time. He lets out a loud grunt.
“I don’t understand what took her so long!?”
“She’s probably getting ready right now,” Matthew speaks as he is on the couch upside down.
“We’re just going to meet my parent, that’s all,” he scoffs.
“Dude, even though she already met them, this is the biggest moment for her.” Matthew chuckles. “Every woman is like that. Just be patient.”
“You always know everything about them,” Damian rolls his eyes.
“If you need any advice about women, just ask me. I’m the expert about them,” he proudly said.
Victor scoffs and smirks, “You? Expert about them? Yeah, tell me a joke about it.”
“Hey! I’m telling the truth!” He yells.
“Then, why you don’t have a girlfriend now?”
“Becoming an advisor doesn’t mean you need to have a girlfriend,” Matthias rolls his eyes.
“Really? Say who keeps failing in their date every time he went on a blind date,” Victor grins.
Matthias grunts and puts a pillow on his face. He hates it when his friend says the truth. He always fails in dating. Not even once did he get a true one for him.
“Why don’t you try Celestia?” Victor inquired, mentioning Celestia’s name out of sudden.
“Celestia!? GOD PLEASE!!!” Matthew yells in disgust. “You can mention all my ex’s names except for her!”
“I rather lick the bathroom tiles than kiss his lips,” he added.
“Say you hate her right now but deep down, you got a soft side for her, aren’t you?” Victor grins, teasing him.
“Should I repeat what I said? I would rather lick the bathroom tiles than kiss her. That woman is annoying and fucking annoying.”
Matthew sat up, “Just hearing her talk made my ears bleed.”
“Oh yeah? Is that what you thought about me!?”
The familiar voice made three of them turn around. Celestia was standing there, fuming in anger as if they could see smoke coming out of her.
“Celestia? What are you doing here?” Damian asks calmly, knowing he wasn’t involved in this talk.
“Oh, Just want to give you the report about the company profit,” she hands over the file.
“Thank you,” Damian took it.
She turns to Matthew, crossing her arms on her chest, “So, you rather lick a bathroom tile than kiss me? My voice made your ears bleed, huh?”
“I’m not lying though,” he clears his throat, slightly getting nervous.
“Thank goodness! Because I felt the same too!!” Celestia yells. “You such a disgusting prick!! I wouldn’t date you even if you were the last man left in this whole world!!!”
“Oh yeah!? So do I!” Matthew yells.
Damian sighs. He glances at his watch and finally gets enough of this. He stomps to the upstairs, straight to their bedroom.
“Do I have to drag you down to make you ready?” He pushes open the door.
Melody is on the ground with a lot of clothes and dresses scattered on the floor. She looks up at him with that big doe eyes, filled with tears. Damian furrows his eyebrows in confusion.
“What the hell are you doing?” He slowly closes the door.
“I…I-I don’t what to wear…It’s so frustrating…” she sniffled.
“Just wear anything as long as you are not naked,” Damian crossed his arms on his chest.
“What if your parent hate it? What if…what if they want to see me in a dress instead of pants? What if they don’t like seeing me wearing a skirt because it is not appropriate?” She rambling.
Now he understands.
“I’m scared! What if they kick me out!? I can’t think straight now!” She cried out loud.
Damian sighs and moves to her, kneeling in front of her. “Why do you have to cry about it? Is this because of pregnancy hormone stuff?”
“I don’t know but it’s so frustrating…” she sobs.
He stares at his wife who is crying her eyes out. Just because she couldn’t choose the right clothes for a simple day. No event. No party. No formality. Just meeting his parent which she already met.
“Hey, don’t cry. This is not something you have to cry for,” he wipes her tears with his thumb. “Let me help you get ready, okay?”
“Really?” She sniffling.
“Yes. What else I can do? It’s annoying watching you crying,” he said with a gentle tone. Even his words are mean but that’s how he expresses himself.
He looks around to find the dress that he thinks is suitable for her. That’s when a baby pink dress reaches her knees to catch his attention. He grabbed it and tossed it to her.
“Wear this,”
“You think it looks great on me?” Melody wipes her tears.
“If I said yes, will you get ready right now without any question?” Damian arches his eyebrows.
She pouts and gets up. She walks toward the bathroom and shuts the door. Damian lets out a heavy sigh. Then, he smiles a bit thinking how adorable his wife is.
___
The car stopped in front of Damian’s parent’s house. Melody keeps fidgeting with her fingers. Why was she nervous anyway? They have met before and this is the second one.
“Are you going to stay in the car or come out?”
She was so busy with her thoughts that she didn’t even realize Damian was standing there, holding her door open.
“Yeah…” she clears her throat and steps out of the car.
Damian notices her nervous state. He stares at her for a moment before wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her close.
“D-Dam?” Melody looks at him stunned.
“Stressful is not good for the baby,” he said calmly.
Melody didn’t say anything. But, this is what she needs. Someone to comfort her. She leans close to him as he ushers her to the front door.
Damian rang the bell. A maid opened the door and stepped aside to let them in, “Welcome home, Mr. and Mrs. Angelo.”
“Where is my parent?” He asks.
“They are waiting for you in the dining room,” the maid answers.
He slightly nods. They went to the dining room, as they got closer to the dining room, they could hear Flavio and Gabriella bickering about something. Damian just let out a sigh as he used to this.
“Darling, it’s not my fault. You ask me to taste it and tell you about it. I’m just being honest about it,” Flavio shrugs his shoulder.
“You don’t have to be too honest about it!” Gabriella exclaims.
“Oh gosh, what honest is not too honest?” He grunts.
“Next time, I won’t ask you to taste my food anymore,” she huffs.
Flavio sighs. No matter what he said, his wife wouldn’t listen. Suddenly, a knock catches their attention.
“Should we stand here and wait for you both to stop fighting?” Damian arches his eyebrows.
Melody waves at them awkwardly.
“Oh my-my sweet little daughter-in-law!!” Gabriella squeals. She gets up from her seat and rushes to Melody, pulling her for a hug.
“It’s nice to meet again, Mrs. Gabriella-I mean…Ella,” she chuckles, awkwardly hugging her back.
“Oh, I don’t think I let you call me that anymore,” Gabriella leans back, “Call me mom, dear.”
“Mom…” The word felt new to Melody’s tongue and deep in her heart.
“So, let’s start our dinner! I cook a lot of food for both of you,” Gabriella announced.
Damian noticed Melody’s expression. He nudges her slightly. “Are you okay?”
“Huh? Yeah…um, I’m fine,” she smiled before taking a seat. Damian stared at her before joining them.
The eating season went smoothly. It was filled with Gabriella’s sarcastic comments to her husband Flavio, who didn’t react much. He nods and accepts whatever his wife says.
“So, is there anything miracle happened?” Gabriella smiles.
“Nothing miracle happened, Mom,” Damian said before munching his food.
“It must be something happened,” she wiggles her eyebrows. “Something like good news or anything that related to…family, maybe?”
He just shrugs his shoulder. Gabriella grunts, “Why do I have a son that always drives me up to the wall!?”
“It’s taken from you,” Flavio chuckles.
“No, it’s not!”
“I’m pregnant, Mom,” Melody said with a soft tone and smile.
Gabriella gasped and grinned, “That’s what I want to hear!”
“You already know and yet you still want to ask?” Damian arches his eyebrows.
“I just want to hear it from your mouth, is that hard to ask?” She rolls her eyes, “Your wife knows better than you.”
“So, Melody, dear. Is there anything you are uncomfortable about? I mean, anything that you want to ask about pregnancy?” She asks in excitement.
“Uh…I’m not sure…” Melody fiddles with her utensils.
“No need to be shy, dear. You can ask anything. I have experience so I can help,” Gabriella speaks in a proud tone.
Flavio smiled and wrapped his arms around his wife’s shoulder, “Darling, she just a few days-or maybe weeks pregnant. It’s not even months yet.”
“I know that I’m just excited to have grandkids,” she pouts.
Melody chuckles.
After dinner, Damian at the living room, smoking. His eyes keep on Melody who washing dishes with his mother. They are laughing and talking. Damian felt glad that she was not awkward and nervous anymore.
Flavio sits on the couch, looking at his son who is busy with his world. He smirks when notices Damian’s eyes on Melody.
“Calm down. She is just there. She’s not going anywhere,” Flavio speaks.
“I’m just watching, Dad. She’s pregnant,” Damian clears his throat.
“Yeah, right,” he chuckles. “Anyway, can I ask you something?”
“What?”
Flavio lit up his cigar, “I didn’t expect Melody to get pregnant. I mean… it’s just not what I thought.”
“So…how it happened?”
“It’s…an accident. Well, she got drunk, and you know the rest,” Damian explained, deciding not to talk much about it. Knowing they did it without any thought.
“Accident, huh? But…it seems like you both…want it,” he grins.
Damian paused for a moment. “You can say it like that…”
Flavio chuckles to himself seeing how much his son changed after being with Melody. Not that he minded it. He’s glad that his son met the right person who can bring light to his world.
“Now, Melody is pregnant. You know you have to be more alert right?” He asks.
“I know, Dad.”
“Angelo, what if Matthias targets her to get to you?” His father asks.
“That’s more like it. It will be easy to kill him if he’s close to me,” Damian smirks.
Flavio frowns, “Angelo, I’m not talking about Matthias but it’s about Melody’s safety.”
“Trust me. Nothing will happen to her, Dad. I’m sure of it.” He blows out the smoke, “Everyone knows what will happen if they mess with her.”
His father notices the eagerness of Damian to kill Matthias. He knows Damian’s still got that rage about his twin’s death.
“Angelo, I’m afraid you are too focused on getting Matthias that you forgot about Melody’s safety,”
“I wouldn’t. Everything will be alright,” Damian said calmly. “Besides, nothing happened in this meantime.”
“Dam! Can you help me for a second!?” Melody calls.
“What is it this time? Your hand stuck in the jar again?” He gets up, straight to the kitchen.
Flavio watches his son leave. Damian’s words repeating inside his mind. Flavio can’t help but sigh heavily.
“What should I do with your brother Damien…” he looks at the framed picture that shows Damian and Damien together.
