“Tell me where Justin and the others are if you want to live.”
Paige’s fingers pressed hard.
The man was too skinny and bony to put up any resistance, his face swelled with pain, “Who the hell is Justin? Did you get the wrong guy?”
“What are you pretending to be, where are all the JT’s?”
Paige stared at him, her eyes cold.
“What Justin’s, miss, you’re really looking for the wrong person!”
The wife at the side of the situation was so anxious that her face was white, directly kneeling to the ground and kowtowing towards her, “I beg you to let my man go, we are just honest people, there is still a kerosene lamp in the house, if you want to take it away, nothing else really …”
The oil lamp? What the heck, it’s not like she’s here to rob anything.
Paige frowned, observing the couple, realizing something, she immediately asked, “What year is it now? Who’s the president?”
The wife immediately rattled off the year beginning with 19 and the president in office at the time.
The man whose neck she was holding nodded desperately.
Paige looked at the husband and wife, who didn’t look like they were lying at all, and an inexplicable chill ran through her.
They were deeply hypnotized.
Hypnotized to the point where they thought they were the people of that era, living in poverty and painful torture …
Her hands instantly loosened and she stepped back unacceptably.
Psychopaths!
JT was a bunch of psychos!
The entire Replica City was not some actor, not some member of JT, but a bunch of hypnotized people, false and real.
How can there be psychopaths who manipulate people to such an extent!
Looking around again, Paige felt her scalp tingle.
Under the couple’s dismayed gaze, she turned and ran out the door, stumbling two steps and stumbling on her feet.
How was she going to find Enrico in such a hypnotized city?
Paige leaned against the crumbling wall, breathing heavily.
“Are you okay, miss?” A soft voice came from beside her.
Paige turned her head and saw a young woman standing next to her, her long, dark, soft hair hanging down her shoulders, wearing a slouchy cheongsam embroidered with lilies, light and fresh as her beautiful, gentle face.
The woman frowned as she looked at the blood on her body, “Were you beaten? Let me send you to the hospital.”
“Not mine, no thanks.” Paige spoke indifferently and turned to walk away.
She couldn’t save these people who were deeply hypnotized, she couldn’t take care of herself, and she had no desire to talk.
“Eh …” The woman looked at her with some concern, “Then don’t go down the path, go down the main road, the times are chaotic right now, it’s better for a girl not to go anywhere.”
“…”
Paige is still silent as she walks forward.
Seeing Paige ignoring herself, the woman sighed helplessly and turned to walk away with the cloth bag in her hand.
Paige took a few steps forward and suddenly stopped, turning to look at the clustered posters plastered on the wall.
A portrait of a green-clothed, finger-flicked woman was printed on it, gentle and moving.
C Village Papa Bree, Hazel of Fame takes the stage and sings “The White Snake” again.
“…”
Hazel.
Paige thought, almost immediately, of the Folsom family genealogy she had read earlier, that the name of the wife of the head of the Folsom family a hundred years ago was Hazel.
Unsurprisingly, Hazel was the woman who was supposedly robbed.
She was a green opera singer?
That’s not in the genealogy.
Paige stood in front of the poster, carefully recognizing the green-clothed opera singer’s eyebrows, and suddenly turned her head to look at the pale woman who was taking a step away, “Hazel!”
The woman stopped in her tracks and turned back with some surprise.
Under the sunlight, her long hair was raised, her beauty was somewhat illusory, she smiled, “You recognize me?”
Not you, but the character you’re ‘playing’.
Hazel walked towards her and smiled, “Since you recognize me, you should believe that I’m not a bad person, I’ll go with you to the hospital, okay?”
“Do you know Leonard Folsom?”
Paige didn’t want anything else, so she opened her mouth directly to say the name of THE Folsom family head.
She wondered what Hazel’s relationship to Leonard was at this time.
“Leonard?”
Hazel was a bit surprised, “You mean THE Folsom family head? He came to listen to me sing two scenes, but did not speak, you … Miss you have an extraordinary temperament, could it be that you are a member of the THE FOLSOM FAMILY? Are you unable to find the way back, I can lead you back.”
This marvelous power of association.
Paige didn’t know if the real Hazel had such associative powers, but the one in front of her obviously had a strong hair-trigger mind.
“I … am from THE Folsom family.”
Paige wasn’t sure how to introduce herself, and after some thought asked, “Are you married? Or have a boyfriend? Who is he? Where?”
Just finding the mastermind should put an end to all this.
“…”
Hazel looked at her in surprise, looking a little embarrassed, “Miss, it seems like you and I have met for the first time.”
Spoken so politely, not even poking her nose directly at her and scolding her.
Paige stood in front of Hazel with a bit of a headache, her thoughts a bit disorganized.
She couldn’t afford to rush.
Since JT was going to arrange such a big drama for her to see, there was no use for her to be in a hurry, at least by meeting Hazel, she had already sort of touched the core of the problem.
Thinking this way, Paige tried to calm herself down, and then looked at Hazel and revealed a smile, “Hazel, I’m actually a fan of your theater and admire you, so … it’s inevitable that I’m a little bit interested in your private life, please don’t be offended.”
“Huh?” Hazel looked at her a bit blankly, squeezing the cloth bag in her hand and letting out another soft laugh, “I don’t know why, but I’m not bored at all by the fact that you’re obviously talking a bit strange.”
Paige choked.
“It’s probably because of those eyes of yours.” Hazel smiled and gazed into her eyes, “I’ve never seen eyes so clear, like they’ve been washed in water.”
“What’s your name?” Hazel asked her.
“Paige Clarke.”
“Your last name is Clarke?” asked Hazel, stunned.
Knowing what she was wondering, Paige blandly said, “the Folsom family is my maternal grandfather’s family.”
It was okay to say that.
“Oh. …”
Hazel understood and repeated her name, “Paige Clarke, very nice name, thank you for enjoying my play.”
After saying that, Hazel took a theater ticket out of her own cloth bag and handed it to her, “Come see my show tonight if you have time.”
Paige took the theater ticket in silence, “Thanks.”
“By the way, all of you ladies have an entourage, I’ll give you a couple more to take with you into Papa Bree, don’t ever come out alone like that again, it’s pretty messy out there.”
Hazel kindly and generously handed out a couple of theater tickets.
Paige didn’t even know what to say, she looked at Hazel, “Can you … answer my question?”
Hazel was stunned and smiled somewhat hopelessly at the thought of her offensive questions, “Yes, I have a boyfriend and he’s coming to see my show tonight as well.”
