Elaine POV
“Man, I missed this place,” Azaire said. “I haven’t been to a game for ages.”
Our relationship hadn’t been normal since we found out we were mates. It’s been a marathon since then. I hope after all this is over we can do normal things like go on dates, travel and have game nights with our families. We’ve become one huge family despite the bad blood between our clans.
“Will you take me on a date once all this is over?” I asked.
“Sure. You can watch me enjoy as my team destroys your little pack football team.”
“You won’t be singing that tune when we kick your asses.”
He barked out a laugh. “Aren’t you cute?”
I stuck out my tongue and he laughed harder. I tugged on my baseball cap and frowned.
“Before Richie gets mad at us let’s comb all the blind spots. Stick close to me, Elaine.”
I bit my lip and nodded.
Azaire shoved his hands in his pockets and strolled off to the east corner of the parking lot. Richie was talking to the guards to find out if they saw suspicious activity. We searched the entire parking lot and there was no sign or scent of anything deadly. I hoped I didn’t drag Azaire and Richie out here for nothing.
“How about we check the facilities?” I offered.
Azaire nodded. He took my hand in his and led me to the school’s main building while innocent Pack members made their way to the stands to watch a simple game.
“Did you go to school here?” I asked.
Azaire looked at me as if I asked the most bizarre question. “Uh… yeah I did. We all did, Lucas didn’t graduate here though.”
I nodded. “I never asked you what you did in college.”
He puffed out his cheeks. “Didn’t go to medical school. I have a business management degree. After college, I started the furniture business in South Oaks.”
“You sell furniture?” I raised a brow.
“No, I manufacture it. I have a whole team.”
I nodded. “I didn’t know that.”
“I know, I’m sorry. I guess there’s still a lot about each other we don’t know.”
I lifted my shoulders. “True. I had my first kiss when I was sixteen. It was in the art room. I spent a lot of time there.”
He dragged me into the gym. The lights were out the light coming from the windows way above us illuminated the small dark room. Azaire pinned me against the wall near a treadmill.
“You want to know where I had my first kiss?”
I swallowed. I stared at his perfect pink lips. I didn’t want to imagine my man kissing another woman but it was fair because I gave him the same mental image. Azaire ran his nose along my neck before sensually kissing my jawline.
“It was in the science lab, but it can’t compare to your kisses.”
I moaned and pressed my body into his, Azaire responded by cupping my ass in his meaty hands.
“You see what you do to me? You’ve distracted me like you always do, Elaine.”
I tugged on his bottom lip with my teeth. “Sorry.”
He smirked. “I like that. Too bad I can’t strip you naked and leave my marks all over your skin.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll take you up on that.” I winked.
He eased off me. It was back to the business setting. We searched the gym for anything deadly. I performed a little spell to see if there were traces of magic but it was clean. I could feel magic on the property but there could be hundreds of innocent witches living in the Blood Moon Pack.
“This way to the pool,” Azaire said.
“Did you swim?” I asked Azaire.
He grimaced. “I hated this place.”
I laughed. While he went ahead I stopped by the serene waters. Sometimes witches used water to make their magic stronger.
“Hello Richie,” Azaire said.
He wandered towards the changing room with his phone pressed to his ear. I dipped my hand into the water and felt a jolt of electricity.
“Yup, this water’s hexed.” I stood. “Azaire!”
“Yeah?”
A steel curtain rumbled like thunder as it fell from the roof. Azaire and I locked eyes for a second before we were separated. I towards the silver curtain separating us.
“We didn’t have this at our school!” I yelled.
“Stand back I’ll break it.”
“Stop!” I shouted.
His fist dented the metal wall.
“This will take forever babe. Can’t you go around? We can meet in the middle.’
“I don’t like this.”
“Neither do I. Come on, let’s go.”
“Fine, meet me in the gym.”
I turned around before any more metal curtains came down. It must have been a mechanism designed to protect the pool or something.
“Elaine, you managed to come!” Quin giggled.
I backed up.
“Yes, and I think I found your power source.” I raised my hand and forced it to burn to life with an angry flame. I aimed the fire at the pool. “The witches won’t have anything to draw their strength from.”
The fire flew to the pool and a magical fire consumed the crystal blue water.
Shock reflected in Quin’s eyes for a second. “Impressive but you’re not naive enough to think that’s going to stop anyone.”
“Why does this delight you? Those are innocent people?”
She scowled. “You think I like this? I enjoy hurting you not helping Laiken. My Dad was punished so severely he lost his rank because he dared to defy Alpha Laiken.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t want that to happen.”
“Save it! I’m not going to lose my rank and if the Alpha wants you so he’ll have you.” She crossed her arms.
If I had to fight her to get through then so be it.
“Do you really want to do this?” I sighed.
“Oh, I won’t lift a finger. Nik!”
I shut my eyes and exhaled.
My older brother came out of the shadows. We locked eyes. He would let me die just to appease his Father.
