Ingrid wore a new yellow dress today, initially coming to offer her blessings with joy. However, upon learning that the groom was Mr. Fritz, she felt as if she had swallowed a bitter pill. She stood by a purple flower stand not far away, holding a glass of juice. Seeing the approaching couple, Ingrid struggled to pull her thoughts back and calm her emotions, knowing they were coming to toast.
“Ingrid.” The couple stopped in front of her, and Agnes smiled as she spoke. “Thank you for attending my engagement ceremony and witnessing my happiness.”
“Hehe,” Ingrid responded with an awkward smile. She glanced at her sister and then at the man beside her. His handsome, almost devilish face had lingered in her mind countless times. Gazing at him so closely for the first time, Ingrid’s heart raced uncontrollably.
“Mr… Mr… Mr. Fritz,” she stammered nervously, trying to greet him properly but failing miserably.
Tom looked at the girl before him and thought for a moment. “You seem familiar. Are you an employee at my company?” His only impression of her was from an encounter in the elevator when she had walked too fast and accidentally bumped into his chest, scattering her documents.
“Yes, yes…” Ingrid replied, lacking confidence even in answering his question because this man was no ordinary man. He was her sister’s boyfriend, fiance-no, Agnes had said they were already married! He was her sister’s husband now!
Ingrid’s mind was in turmoil. She hadn’t fully processed this fact yet, not just because of her secret crush but also because of the embarrassing things she had gushed about to Agnes the previous day.
So awkward! Too awkward!
“This is my aunt’s daughter, my cousin, Ingrid,” Agnes introduced with a sweet smile.
Tom nodded. “Ingrid.” Today he wasn’t the CEO; he was here as Agnes’s husband to meet all the Campbell family relatives.
“I… I… I toast to you!” Ingrid raised her juice glass with trembling hands and a broad smile on her face. “Um… I wish you both happiness and many children.”
“Thank you,” Agnes responded gracefully without feeling embarrassed.
“Thank you, Ingrid,” Tom added politely.
They clinked glasses lightly and took a sip of their drinks before expressing their gratitude to Ingrid once more. Agnes even asked a nearby servant to bring some delicious food for Ingrid.
“Certainly, Miss Campbell,” the servant enthusiastically described the best dishes to Ingrid, helping her gradually regain her composure with the food’s distraction. She began to let go of this crush that should never have happened in the first place.
Tom then took Agnes to meet his Fritz family relatives, accompanied by his grandmother who held Agnes’s hand tightly. Her neatly combed silver hair and kind face showed how much she genuinely liked this granddaughter-in-law. It was evident that the Fritz family relatives also adored her.
After the engagement ceremony ended, the Campbell family relatives prepared to leave in a luxurious convoy. Ingrid found Agnes and took her hand voluntarily, feeling both awkward and apologetic as she said, “I’m sorry, Agnes, I…”
“The one who should apologize is me,” Agnes replied sincerely. “But feelings can’t be forced. I hope you find your own happiness soon.”
