Bianca bit her lip, looked down, and quietly said, “Nothing, it’s just… we broke up.”
Reece’s eyes widened in surprise.
Did Dave break up with her at the restaurant?
“Did… Did you and Dave really break up? Didn’t you try to change his mind?” Reece asked, curious because Skylar had said Bianca wouldn’t easily let go of him.
Bianca looked at him and said, “I have no reason to lie about it.”
Her serious words made it hard for Reece to believe she was being dishonest. He felt confused.
“But why are you so interested in my relationship with him?” Bianca asked, noticing the doubt on his face.
Reece quickly snapped out of his thoughts and forced a smile. “Just curious, that’s all.”
“Mr. Barton, I’m not sure what your connection is with Dave, and honestly, it doesn’t matter to me anymore. But please, don’t tell him about today, and don’t talk to him about me. Let’s just pretend… nothing ever happened between me and Dave.” Bianca’s voice was soft, filled with sadness.
Reece hesitated.
Was Bianca really planning to cut all ties with Dave? Hadn’t Skylar said that Bianca had seduced him? Could she really let him go that easily?
Noticing these inconsistencies, Reece felt he needed to pay closer attention. If Bianca were really as manipulative and deceitful as Skylar had said, he’d step in to help Skylar.
But what if Skylar had misunderstood the whole situation?
Reece was born into wealth and had worked hard over the years, gaining a lot of experience. He knew he needed to figure out what was going on.
“What are your plans for the future?” he asked, looking at Bianca.
“I hope you can win my cases. After that, I’ll focus on running the business with all my effort and…”
Bianca stood there, unsure of what to say. Her dreams used to be all about Dave, but now, things were unclear in her mind.
“I’m not busy lately, so I can focus more on your cases. Are you free tomorrow? We could meet and talk about them in detail.” Reece hoped to stay near Bianca during the case and to know her true intentions.
“Tomorrow…”
Reece noticed her hesitation and raised an eyebrow. “We can choose another day if tomorrow doesn’t work for you.”
Bianca quickly replied, “Tomorrow is my mother’s birthday, but it’s fine. The business needs come first. I’ll make time to meet with you.”
Reece nodded. “Okay, I should get going now.”
He put on his coat and started to leave. But as he reached the door, he suddenly stopped. Turning back, he looked at her and asked, “Do you know about the relationship between Dave and Skylar?”
After a brief pause, Bianca said, “Isn’t Skylar… his cousin? What could possibly be between them?”
“Cousin?” Reece frowned, confused. Since when was Skylar Dave’s cousin?
“Dave once mentioned that Skylar is his distant cousin. I don’t know much more than that,” Bianca explained.
“How dare he say that…” Reece muttered under his breath, his lips twitching.
“What did you say?” Bianca asked, puzzled.
“Nothing,” Reece said, giving Bianca an awkward smile. “So, you know that Skylar is engaged, right?”
“Yes.” Reece gave a small smile and asked, “Do you know who she’s engaged to?”
Bianca nodded. “The president of Phoenix Alliance Group. It’s all over the internet. It’s not a secret, is it?”
Reece narrowed his eyes, wondering why Bianca seemed so calm talking about the president of Phoenix Alliance Group, almost as if he were a stranger to her.
From what Skylar had said, Bianca should have known who Dave was for a long time. But why did she act like she didn’t know anything?
It was clear that Dave had wanted to keep his identity a secret when he had asked Reece to help Sophia back then.
That’s why Reece had never mentioned Dave’s name around Bianca and Sophia.
He’d always been curious about this.
Today, he just wanted to figure out who could influence Dave, but he hadn’t expected to learn so much.
Thinking about the mysterious president, Bianca said, “Honestly, I’ve met him once. He seemed a bit intimidating, but his ideas and mindset are truly extraordinary. Miss Larson and he make a perfect match.”
“Intimidating? Bianca, have you really met the president of Phoenix Alliance Group?” Reece asked, looking at her in disbelief.
Bianca nodded confidently.
Reece felt even more confused, but he knew it wasn’t the right time to ask too many questions. He understood Dave well; he hated being talked about behind his back.
So, Reece forced a smile and said, “Oh, it was just a casual question. I should go now. Bye.”
He opened the door and left.
Sitting on the bed, Bianca sensed something was off about Reece’s reaction.
Was there something wrong with the president of Phoenix Alliance Group?
Dave’s limousine was parked outside Evans Mansion. Skylar opened the door and glanced back at him.
Dave crossed his arms over his chest, his eyes closed, completely ignoring her.
Skylar bit her lip and paused. Then, she asked, “Dave, about you and Bianca… Did you…”
She was curious about what had happened between Dave and Bianca tonight but struggled to find the right words.
“Don’t worry,” Dave said quietly. “I have nothing to do with her anymore.”
Skylar stared at Dave, confused by his words.
“You’re my future wife, Skylar,” Dave said firmly. “It’s only you. There won’t be any other women in my life.”
Dave’s eyes were closed, his face calm and emotionless. He didn’t even glance at Skylar.
Despite his cold attitude, Skylar felt her heart beat faster. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t hide her surprise.
She bit her inner cheek to stop herself from smiling.
“Dave,” Skylar said, placing her hand over her chest as if being considerate, “I just hope your grandpa enjoys his last days. If you have feelings for another woman, I’ll keep it a secret. Your grandpa won’t suspect a thing…”
Dave slightly opened his eyes and glanced at Skylar. Under the light, his eyes gleamed with an unpredictable look.
In a cold voice, he said, “She’s just a fling, a distraction. Did you think it was serious?”
Skylar felt her shoulders relax and let out a sigh of relief.
She bit her lower lip, forcing herself to suppress a smile. “Okay, I’ll go back. Take care of yourself, okay? Don’t push yourself too hard.”
Dave’s stare softened as he closed his eyes again. “Okay,” he replied quietly.
