Chapter 721: Do As You Wish

Book:A King Reborn in Shadows Published:2025-2-5

Everyone in Pelens knew that Nick Gray had risen to his position with the backing of the former city governor-none other than Felix Langford’s grandfather and Adria Langford’s father.
With such a connection, it was natural for Nick to stand with the Langford family and fiercely punish Flynn for his audacity.
What did wealth matter? Even a fortune of billions couldn’t outweigh the power of a single decree from those in authority.
Besides, Flynn had acted recklessly, breaking Felix Langford’s limbs. He was clearly in the wrong. Dealing with him would be child’s play.
As the crowd mulled over the situation, a man in a meticulously tailored suit, glasses perched on his nose, and an air of precision surrounding him, stepped into the hall. Behind him followed over a dozen uniformed officers, including Mr. Howe from the Pelens Police Department.
“Nick even brought Mr. Howe. Looks like he’s serious this time,” someone remarked.
“Hah! No matter how strong a Grandmaster is, can he dodge a dozen guns at once?”
“Exactly. And I heard Jiri Langley has gone to fetch his elder brother. Once that peak Grandmaster arrives, this madman will have no choice but to surrender.”
Seeing Nick and his entourage arrive, the crowd relaxed. Smiles spread across their faces, and they no longer regarded Flynn as a threat.
Had Flynn not offended both families, his immense wealth, exceeding over a hundred billion dollars, would have made everyone eager to befriend him.
But he had chosen to challenge the might of Pelens’ elite families, a blatant slap to their faces.
To defend the honor of Pelens’ aristocracy, they were determined to take Flynn down.
Nick Gray strode confidently into the grand hall, his presence commanding. After briefly greeting his father, Peter, his gaze locked onto Flynn.
“So, you’re the Grandmaster causing trouble?” Nick’s voice carried an unyielding authority, his anger palpable to everyone present.
Nick Gray-a deputy provincial officer.
With someone of his rank involved, no amount of wealth could save Flynn from punishment.
Maria couldn’t help but feel nervous.
Bobby Sheppard’s intervention and his revelation of Flynn’s incredible wealth had shocked her.
But she was well aware that the Gray and Langford families were political dynasties. They wouldn’t back down because of money.
In any society, power brought far more security than money ever could.
That was true strength.
And as expected, Nick had come to back the Langford family. His imposing demeanor made it clear that there would be no peaceful resolution.
Flynn, however, merely glanced at him, nodded indifferently, and remained silent. His expression was calm, even laced with impatience.
Nick Gray’s eyes narrowed. Suppressing his anger, he asked, “My mentor has only one grandson, and you broke all four of his limbs. And you did it in my jurisdiction. Are you trying to challenge the law with brute force?”
Flynn tilted his head slightly and replied, “So what if he’s your mentor’s only grandson? Does that mean I can’t break his limbs?”
The hall erupted into stunned murmurs.
Rolando’s eyes flickered with rage.
When Flynn had attacked Felix Langford, he had said something similar: “Your family background has nothing to do with whether or not I break your legs.”
And now, with Nick Gray, a high-ranking official in Pelens, standing before him, Flynn dared to speak the same way?
This man was utterly reckless!
It sounded as if Flynn wouldn’t hesitate to break the governor’s son’s limbs if provoked.
Arrogant. Audacious.
Nick Gray was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t expected Flynn to be so defiant. Shouldn’t Flynn be groveling, desperately trying to justify his actions?
Yet here he was, brazenly admitting his actions with an air of indifference.
“Oh? So, you think you can do as you please in Pelens?” Nick’s gaze bore into Flynn, as if trying to unravel the source of his confidence.
He wanted to know who had given Flynn the audacity to harm the Langford family’s heir and remain so composed in his presence.
“To me, you’re no different from anyone else,” Flynn replied calmly.
What?
Nick Gray, who governed a city of eight million people, was no different from an ordinary person in Flynn’s eyes?
This man was out of his mind!
The room buzzed with disbelief.
Defiance. Insult. Blasphemy.
Nick’s authority had been outright dismissed.
Flynn was finished!
Bobby Sheppard, however, let out a bitter laugh.
Mr. Clark wasn’t exaggerating. After all, the eight kings of the Northern Territory were his disciples.
Orion Kennedy had once said that when Yves Yancey trained under Flynn on Demon Island, he was so thoroughly beaten that he cried constantly, losing all semblance of a king’s dignity.
To Flynn, a mere mayor was truly insignificant.
Peyton, unaware of her father’s thoughts, simply felt that Flynn was too arrogant.
No matter how wealthy he was, he was still just a businessman. Even the Sheppard family, the wealthiest in Pelens, had to bow to the Langford and Gray families in private.
In society, commercial families could never surpass those with real power.
Flynn underestimated the strength of authority. Some things couldn’t be resolved with money.
Take the incident with Felix Langford, for example. Even if Flynn sacrificed his entire fortune to make amends, the Langford family wouldn’t forgive him.
If this had happened to Ethan Langley, he would have done everything possible to compensate instead of stubbornly escalating the conflict.
Scarlet, sensing the tension in the air, stepped forward to diffuse it. Blocking Flynn, she explained,
“Nick, this morning, Felix Langford set a trap. He deliberately provoked Flynn to make him strike first, so Jiri Langley could retaliate. That’s what angered Flynn.”
Adria Langford’s expression darkened as she sneered, “What a convenient excuse. Do you have any proof?”
“Your words are nothing more than baseless claims!”
“Even if my son did provoke him, does that justify breaking all his limbs?”
The crowd murmured in agreement.
Even in cases of self-defense, the other party needed to initiate an attack or pose a threat.
Felix Langford had only used words to provoke Flynn, yet Flynn had responded with such excessive violence. It was indefensible.
Scarlet was momentarily speechless, unable to counter the argument.
“Enough with the explanations. It’s pointless to reason with them. Let’s just sit back and watch the show,” Flynn said, patting Scarlet’s shoulder with a faint smile.
What?
Even at this critical moment, he refused to back down!
After committing such a heinous act, he showed no remorse. He was undoubtedly a menace.
They understood now.
This man probably thought his connection to Niarak’s mayor could shield him from punishment.
Ridiculous!
While both were mayors, Pelens was the capital of Shipmeda State, making Nick Gray far more influential than Travis Richardson.
If Flynn had merely attacked the son of a minor noble family, Nick might have shown leniency. But Flynn had targeted the grandson of Nick’s mentor!
“Watch the show? Fine!” Nick’s face darkened as he said coldly,
“Then I’ll have you arrested so you can enjoy the show from behind bars!”
At his words, the officers behind him reached for their weapons.
Rolando smirked once more.
Even with Bobby Sheppard’s help, Flynn couldn’t escape. He could resist all he wanted, but no Grandmaster could survive the close-range fire of a dozen guns.
Just as the tension reached its peak, a voice rang out.
“Mr. Ethan Langley and Mr. Jiri Langley have arrived!”
Hearing this announcement, Rolando’s smirk deepened. Turning to Flynn, he said,
“Well, now there’s no need for the police. Mr. Ethan Langley alone will be enough to handle you.”
