Chapter 42: FINDING A CLUE.
Natalie’s eyes blinked rapidly in amusement as she stared at Mira. She found it hard to believe that Javier was concerned about her mother’s well-being, to the extent he assigned the most trusted nurse to stay by her side.
“Hard to believe, huh?!” She flashed me a quick smile and pulled me by the hands leading me into the hospital. “come on, let’s go see your mom. She misses you.” Mira giggled, happily.
Natalie’s eyes widened in excitement, “Really, she’s awake?” She asked, smiling widely.
Mira shook her head, “No…but why wouldn’t she? It has been a long you visited. Only Mr. Javier made out time to come see her.” she exposed more, opening the door to Natalie’s mother’s ward.
Mira’s last words made Natalie drop dead on her track. She watched Kate and Elvis make their way into her mother’s ward, while she felt her legs glued tightly to the ground. No doubt, Javier’s gestures surprised her to the core, and she had deep feelings that Javier was just faking everything However, what she kept wondering was what he was going to gain by doing all of this, as she didn’t know his hidden agenda.
“Aren’t you going in?”Mira’s voice jotted her from her thoughts from behind and she felt her legs released again. She slowly entered inside to see her mother connected to all different kinds of wire, with a huge machine making a bleeping sound beside her also connected to her body.
Natalie hastily ran and sat beside her mother, and she held her hands into hers. Immediately tears streamed down her face. “Mother!” She whispered and burst into more tears as she snob harder, and her shoulder shook rapidly.
Kate walked up to her and began smoothly on her shoulder, “Come on Nat, she’s fine.” Kate consoled her with words.
That didn’t stop her from crying, as she felt Kate’s words fueling her the more. She looked at her mother, her skin looked all dried up and pale; like all the blood in her veins had dried up.
“How was the surgery? Was it successful? Hope there was no complication. Why is she looking so pale?” Natalie suddenly bombed Mira with questions as her eyes were examining her mother’s body.
Mira flashed her a smile and patted her shoulder softly, “The Surgery was a success and there were no complications. About her skin color, she lost so much blood during the surgery. However, that was already taken care of…within some days her skin will come back to its normal color.” Mire gently explained and reassured.
Natalie felt like icy chill water was poured on her soul as she felt her body and soul smashed in relived. She quickly turned to Elvis, who had been sitting all quiet, “Did you hear that? My mother is going to be fine.” she beamed in excitement and Elvis nodded his head smiling back.
“So when is she getting discharged,” Kate asked, feeling glad too.
“Sorry to say, that she’s still under observation. The holes in her heart haven’t fully healed yet. So… we need to watch over her till we are convinced that she’s fit to go home.” Mira explained calmly and they all nodded their head in understanding, even thou deep down Natalie was a little bit sad.
She stood up and quickly pulled Mira into a tight hug, “Thank you so much. I’m sorry I hindered you to travel abroad. Hope I didn’t cause a fight between you and your fiance,” Natalie asked with worries written all over her face.
“We broke up.” She disclosed and burst into tears, laying on Natalie’s crying.
“Ohh my Goodness,” Natalie exclaimed, with her eyes widened. “Why?”
Mira slowly withdrew from the hug, as Natalie raised her hand to her face and wiped away her tears. Natalie knew that deep down she was the reason why all this happened, and she felt bad about it. “I’m sorry. It was all my fault…if not that-”
“It was never your fault Nat. Taking care of a patient has been my job, regardless of where I find myself. If this is the little sacrifice I have to make, then so be it.” She said confidently, as her lips stretched into a wide smile.
Natalie sighed, but deep down she wasn’t convinced by Mira’s words. She felt that Mira only wanted her not to feel guilty about what had happened and never wanted her to blame herself. “But Mira–” Natalie tried saying.
“I have no regrets. Any man who wouldn’t support my dreams regardless of distance, isn’t worth staying with.” She cut Natalie off with her words and flashed them a smile before walking out of the room leaving the three of them behind.
The room dropped dead silence, as no one attempted to say a word. “She has a good heart. And that fiance of hers doesn’t deserve her at all.” Kate suddenly spoke, shrugging her shoulder.
Natalie veered around and gave her a hard glare, rolling her eyes afterward, “Sometimes you talk without thinking twice.” Natalie lashed at her.
Kate’s jaws dropped at Natalie’s words, “But I never said anything wrong.” She whined and rolled her eyes.
Elvis suddenly burst into laughter and the two ladies wondered what was funny. “Woah! I never knew that Javier would play his card well on the part of the contract.” He spoke up before any of them would ask what was the matter.
“Oh please…don’t bring that up in front of my mother.” Natalie rolled her eyes, already understanding where Elvis was heading.
“Come on…don’t you want her to know the good deeds of her son Inlaw? Don’t tell me you are this selfish, Nat.” Elvis mocked her the more, trying so hard to hold his cracking ribs.
Natalie’s eyes widened, “Son Inlaw, What?” She shrieked, standing up on her feet, and sending Elvis a murderous glare. Kate who couldn’t hold up her laughter anymore burst out, laughing uncontrollably, as she quickly snapped shut when Natalie’s glares averted to her direction. However that didn’t stop her, and she had no option but to cover her mouth with her palm.
Natalie shook her head, glaring at both of them laughing, “You two are unbelievable.” She said and turned to her mother, she leaned over and kissed her head before storming out of the room, ignoring the both of them.
“Come on Nat, wait for me.” Kate and Elvis ran after her, running out of the room.
Natalie was increasing her pace when, unexpectedly, she bumped into Doc. Douglas. He was stunned to see her as he gulped down nothing, the moment he raised his head, and saw that it was her.
“Doc. Douglas,” Natalie smirked a him, instantly he hurriedly rushed passed her like he had seen a ghost, as he bumped Kate and Elvis on his way. Which got them wondering what was after him.
“Is that not Douglas? Don’t tell me he can’t even stand you.” Kate asked the moment she got closer and burst into laughter but noticed that Natalie was absent-minded. “Nat?” she tapped her on her shoulder.
“Can you take me back to the club?” Natalie quickly turned and faced Kate.
Kate was taken aback by her request. Why of the sudden? “Why?” she sighed and asked.
“Why the club?” Elvis chimed in, coming closer to the ladies.
Natalie sighed and averted her gaze to Elvis, “I want to investigate this matter myself,” She responded and turned to Kate who held a confused expression as she couldn’t grasp what she was saying. “I want to see Shakira. I have a feeling that Alfred knows something about those guys that burned down my shop.” She expressed her worries.
“What?!” Elvis exclaimed, knowing the fact that Javier was doomed.
