Even though Ayan rejected her, at least she had tried.
As long as she had tried, it meant that she had made an effort for herself, with a clear conscience and no regrets. That was enough.
In response to her inquiry, Ayan replied indifferently, “This is your own business. No need to report to me!”
Was this answer an agreement or a rejection?
Crystal had no idea.
She softly asked, “Mr. Simpson, I don’t quite understand what you mean. Could you please clarify?”
“Is it my expression that is unclear, or is there a misunderstanding on your part? Your matters are yours to decide. As for the Bill family and my wife’s affairs, neither you nor anyone else has the authority to make decisions. I will not agree. This decision has not changed from the beginning until now. If the Bill family remains stubborn, don’t blame me for being impolite.”
Ayan’s words were clear enough.
After hearing his response, Crystal quickly nodded and said, “Thank you, Mr. Simpson, for trusting me.”
Ayan didn’t say anything more. The call ended, and then he saw a message from Camille.
After replying to her message, he took out a cigarette from the drawer. He felt the urge to smoke due to his troubled mood, but because he had promised Camille, he refrained from doing so.
He simply held the cigarette in his hand and played with it, his face becoming extremely gloomy.
The matter concerning the Bill family was not to be taken lightly. He needed to prepare for all possible outcomes, both good and bad.
And there was also his grandfather’s side. His grandfather clearly knew everything about the Bill family’s intentions, but Ayan knew very little about their information.
Although he could find out who Kathleen married, he couldn’t find any more information beyond that. It was like a puzzle with no solution.
The more Ayan thought about it, the heavier his thoughts became. He squinted his eyes with a hint of seriousness in his gaze. Then he picked up his phone and called Fletcher.
Fletcher answered quickly, probably still looking at his phone despite Talia’s order not to do so continuously. But it seemed that Fletcher couldn’t help himself.
“What’s up?” Fletcher asked in a low voice.
Ayan said, “I need to go to the hospital to talk to Grandfather about something. Please arrange for Dr. Ellis and other doctors to come as well. After I finish talking with Grandfather, we can discuss his situation in detail.”
Arranging everything at the same time would allow him to save time. If he solved one thing after another separately, Ayan wouldn’t have enough time.
He didn’t even let Kian accompany him. He drove alone to the hospital.
The journey was smooth and he arrived at the hospital.
He parked his car and took the elevator to the floor where the ward was located.
Fletcher had already made arrangements, so when he entered the ward, only his grandfather was watching TV alone.
Seeing Ayan, Callum seemed somewhat surprised and glanced behind him a few times. “You came alone?”
Ayan nodded, and Callum visibly showed disappointment.
Even his gaze no longer focused on him. Such obvious differential treatment was hard to ignore.
But fortunately, Ayan had gotten used to it and didn’t feel any sense of loss. Instead, he smiled and said to his grandfather, “Grandfather, can you pretend to be happy?”
“Why should I have to pretend to be happy when I’m not?” Callum snorted coldly and asked indifferently, “Why are you here again?”
“We haven’t finished our conversation from last night, so today, I took advantage of Camille going out with friends for dinner and came here specifically to talk with you again.”
“Camille would rather eat with friends than eat with you. Have you ever reflected on what you’ve done wrong? You’re always thinking about other random things,” Callum said dismissively.
Clearly, his grandfather didn’t want to talk much about that matter.
But since Ayan was here, he naturally wanted to find a way to get the answers he wanted.
His relentless pursuit made his grandfather truly give in.
Callum said, “Can’t you stop pressuring me?”
“Grandfather, I’m not pressuring you. I really want to understand this matter. The Bill family seems eager to reveal everything publicly. I must be fully prepared,” Ayan replied calmly.
Callum fell silent without saying anything more. That meant he knew something.
Ayan smiled faintly and said, “Grandfather, just tell me honestly. It saves me from coming here time after time. If I don’t bring Camille along next time, I guess you won’t want to see me either.”
Callum snorted in response but didn’t deny it, naturally confirming it instead.
There was a brief moment of silence in the atmosphere.
Callum remained silent while Ayan maintained his silence as well.
After a while, his grandfather sighed and said, “I don’t know much about them either. All I know is that their influence should not be underestimated because of their background.”
Once his grandfather finished speaking, everything became clear to Ayan. His speculations were correct.
However, he didn’t expect that they could endure this much since their own child had been left adrift outside. Were they really not worried at all?
He asked this question with a trace of excitement evident in his expression and blame in his eyes.
His grandfather sighed silently before saying, “I don’t know much either. Only the old Armstrong knows everything. But since he’s gone now, only the Bill family knows everything.”
“If Mr. Armstrong knew about it, do you think he would have mentioned it to Brody before he passed?” Ayan asked indifferently.
Callum frowned as well. “It’s not impossible. If you want to know, you can go ask him yourself. But Ayan, let me remind you that sometimes the more you know, the more you have to hide. If you can’t keep it hidden anymore or if Camille finds out that you’ve known all along but never said anything. Have you thought about whether she can accept it? Or if she thinks that you knew but never spoke up? Have you thought about these questions? Can you bear such a heavy burden?”
Callum asked worriedly.
Ayan’s urgency to uncover the truth was unmistakable. Callum, keenly aware, understood that Ayan’s motivations were not rooted in a genuine concern for Camille’s lineage. Rather, Ayan was intent on identifying any potential threats that could endanger her. If there were no ulterior motives from the other party, then everything could proceed naturally. However, if there were ulterior motives that would harm Camille, he would never agree.
