Chapter 1774: Slacking Off

Book:My Ex-husband Regretted To End The Marriage Published:2025-2-5

Crystal couldn’t possibly tell Camille everything, could she? She didn’t want to hurt Camille, but at the same time, she couldn’t go against Ayan’s wishes.
Crystal felt a heavy weight on her heart.
Her plea left Camille somewhat stunned. With a faint expression, Camille said, “Alright, I won’t ask anymore, but I still hope you can consider it carefully. There’s no difficulty that can’t be overcome. If you need any help, just let me know, okay?”
Crystal murmured softly in agreement, but in the end, she didn’t tell Camille the reason.
Just before hanging up the phone, she sounded somewhat anxious as she asked, “Camille, are we still friends in the future?”
“Of course!” Camille replied with a smile.
Crystal smiled and said, “That’s good. As long as you still consider me a friend, nothing else matters.”
Camille didn’t quite understand what Crystal meant by that, but she assumed Crystal didn’t have any other intentions, so she didn’t ask further.
The phone call with Crystal didn’t last long.
Crystal said, “Camille, if I manage to resolve the matters at hand and want to return to the project, I hope you can give me a chance.”
“Crystal, I don’t know why you’re leaving in the first place. But all I can say is that opportunities are always reserved for those who are prepared. Whether you’re still part of this project or not in the future, I hope you’ll persevere in pursuing your dreams.”
That was the best answer Camille could give. Apart from that, she couldn’t make any promises because this project wasn’t solely up to her.
Because there was also Mario.
She couldn’t guarantee anything.
Camille didn’t chat with Crystal for too long. After ending the call, she became somewhat downcast.
There was an indescribable feeling.
She felt quite helpless.
But she didn’t dwell on Crystal’s matter any longer. It was Crystal’s decision, and she could do nothing about it.
Today was the day to visit Ayan’s grandfather at the hospital, so after finishing work, Camille went straight to Simpson Group.
She drove herself to Simpson Group and took the elevator directly to Ayan’s office.
It was almost time for everyone to leave work at this point. The secretary was also preparing to leave and warmly greeted Camille upon seeing her.
Camille had always had a good relationship with them and exchanged greetings with smiles. Camille said, “I’ll bring you some delicious food next time I come.”
“Great! We’ll be waiting!” they replied.
“I’ll go in now and won’t disturb your closing time.” Camille pointed towards Ayan’s office and waved goodbye before walking towards the office.
Ayan was still busy when Camille entered. He didn’t notice her presence until he heard her voice. He looked up and saw Camille, his eyes filled with surprise. In a low and hoarse voice, he asked, “Why are you here?”
“Weren’t we supposed to go to the hospital to see your grandfather?” Camille walked over and asked casually, “How much longer until you finish your work?”
“Soon. Can you wait for me?” Ayan replied.
“What else can I do? I can’t just leave alone, can I?” Camille snorted softly and then turned around to sit on the sofa.
Ayan was indeed quite busy, likely due to his business trip, which had left him with a mountain of work that needed urgent attention.
Camille found it somewhat amusing. His situation was reminiscent of a child who, if they slacked off on their homework, would end up exhausted by the time the deadline approached.
Thinking of children naturally led her to Timothy.
She couldn’t help but recall Talia’s comments from the night before. Although Talia hadn’t explicitly asked her to have a second child, Camille found herself contemplating the idea. Now that everything was stable-both in her relationship and family-she didn’t actually mind having another baby.
The only issue was that Ayan seemed reluctant, believing that giving birth to Timothy had been quite taxing for her.
Camille pursed her lips, seriously considering the possibility. If she really wanted to go through with it, perhaps it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to take action without consulting him first…
But there was no rush for that just yet. It was something to think over carefully.
As Camille sat lost in thought, she began to feel quite bored. Just then, there was a knock on the office door, and Kian pushed it open a moment later.
Kian looked at Camille, and his previously anxious expression froze in place.
Camille noticed this clearly, as Kian’s greeting was momentarily stunned.
She instinctively asked, “Are you two discussing something important? Should I step out for a bit?”
After all, it was work-related and confidential. She could understand that if Ayan was discussing the SynergyCon project, any topics related to the drafts would need to be kept under wraps.
Once one was in that position, he had to deal with the associated responsibilities.
As Camille finished speaking, Ayan frowned instinctively, his face clouded with displeasure. He said, “Just say what you need to say.”
The implication was clear-there were no outsiders here, and Camille could know everything.
Kian lowered his gaze, his voice low as he said, “Mr. Simpson, we didn’t handle things well during our trip to Flento City. There are some follow-up issues. How do you want to respond?”
Ayan’s expression darkened immediately, a cold detachment settling in his brow. His voice was husky. “Is it serious?”
“Somewhat serious,” Kian replied quickly.
Ayan raised his wrist to check the time, then turned his gaze to Camille. “Why don’t you go to the hospital to have lunch with Grandfather first? I’ll have the chauffeur take you there. I’ll join you once I wrap up here.”
“Alright!” Camille had no objections. Waiting here was rather boring, so spending time with Callum sounded better.
She stood up and headed for the door, and Ayan followed suit, stepping in front of her. He gently wrapped an arm around her waist and leaned down to look her in the eye. “I’ll come to pick you up later, okay?”
“Okay.” Camille preferred to keep some distance. It felt better that way.
Ayan personally escorted her to the door and watched her walk towards the elevator before returning to his office and closing the door behind him.
Kian spoke quietly, “Crystal just called me. She said the Bill family plans to make this matter public. They want to come clean about anything related to Madam.”
“Did they really think I was just bluffing?” Ayan snapped, his tone indifferent. “Contact Crystal and tell her to inform the Bill family that if they’re willing to risk everything for their interests, they can certainly try. If even a word about this gets out, I can guarantee that the Bill family will face consequences they can’t handle by tomorrow.”
Kian nodded, “Got it. I’ll contact Crystal right away.”
As Kian headed for the door, he pulled it open only to find Camille standing there, leaving him momentarily stunned.
His eyes widened in shock as he stammered, “M-Madam…”
Ayan heard him and quickly walked over.
Camille stood in the doorway, casually saying, “I forgot my bag.”
With that, she walked past Kian and Ayan into the office to retrieve her bag, and Ayan followed her inside. Kian, being considerate, closed the door behind them, though he couldn’t shake off a feeling of unease.
