Chapter 1768: Troubles

After dropping off Lily, Camille had to act as a chauffeur to take Sienna back home. She planned to stay at Franklin Bay tonight since she didn’t want to go through the hassle.
On the way back, the two of them naturally discussed Jennie’s situation. Sienna said, “Mario probably just wants to use Jennie to mess with us.”
“Are you scared?” Camille asked.
“Scared? Me? I’m not scared. Let me tell you, she is no match for me,” Sienna got worked up and said with a look of determination when talking about Jennie.
Camille said, “Actually, we don’t need to pay too much attention to her. Just ignore her.”
“You’re right, but I’m afraid I can’t do it. Every time I see her, I want to tear her mouth apart,” she said bitterly. If it hadn’t been for Jennie spilling the beans about her feelings for Mario, she wouldn’t have had to endure the humiliation in the King family.
Sienna hated her and that hadn’t changed.
Although it was her own initiative to confess her feelings, Jennie intentionally exposed everything in front of everyone. How could Sienna not hate her?
Sienna couldn’t get over this hurdle in her heart. She told Camille, “I hate her, really hate her. I won’t forgive her.”
“Then don’t forgive her. There’s no need to make yourself suffer. Just follow your heart,” Camille advised.
“Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
Sienna nodded and asked, “Am I being too dramatic?”
“Who dares say you’re being dramatic? Shouldn’t a beauty have some temper and personality? Besides, you’re a beautiful pregnant woman now. Anyone who dares say anything bad about you, I’ll make them sorry,” Camille replied, accommodating Sienna’s desires and making her happy.
After dropping off Sienna, Camille returned home. She had already messaged the housekeeper in advance, so the housekeeper was still waiting for her.
Upon seeing this, Camille quickly said, “Auntie, you don’t have to wait for me anymore. I’ll come back on my own and rest. I’ve already eaten dinner, and it’s not early now. You should rest too!”
The housekeeper replied, “I’m just bored and planning to go back to the Simpson’s mansion tomorrow to visit Mrs. Simpson.”
The housekeeper had worked for Talia for many years, even before Talia married into the Simpson family. She had been working for Talia’s mother’s family for decades. Talia had never mistreated her. The housekeeper’s husband and children all held different positions in the Simpson Group, so their income was secure. Talia even bought a house for her family, which wasn’t far from the Simpson’s mansion. Even if she didn’t work for her anymore, they could still visit each other regularly.
The housekeeper now lived here. Since Camille and Ayan didn’t often stay here, whenever she felt bored, she went back to the Simpson’s mansion to help Talia out.
Camille quickly responded, “Talia will definitely be happy when she sees you there. You can also help her take care of Timothy.”
“Mrs. Simpson takes him everywhere now. This little guy is nothing like Ayan was at his age. Ayan always had that little adult vibe, while Timothy is just so sweet that everyone he meets ends up liking him,” the housekeeper said, a smile spreading across her face.
Camille felt pleased to hear that. Timothy had a way of charming people, and she couldn’t help but think it was wonderful.
But it was tough for Talia since she was the one who essentially raised Timothy. Camille empathized, saying, “It’s all thanks to Talia’s hard work that Timothy is being taken care of so well.”
“You’re family. No need to be so polite. Mrs. Simpson enjoys it, really,” the housekeeper replied.
After a few more casual exchanges, the housekeeper suggested Camille head upstairs to take a shower and rest. Tomorrow morning, they’d have breakfast at home, with her making Camille handmade beef noodles. She also asked Camille to pack some to take back to the office for everyone to taste.
The housekeeper’s cooking skills were impeccable-better than what some star chefs could offer.
They had previously hired a professional chef, but it felt too much like restaurant food, and both Camille and Ayan preferred a more homestyle approach that still packed plenty of flavors.
Once Camille went upstairs to her room, she took a shower and went through her skincare routine before finally having a moment to grab her phone.
There were no messages or calls from Ayan, which made her a bit displeased. After a moment of hesitation, she sent him a message, asking, “What do you mean by that?”
When Ayan didn’t reply immediately, Camille found herself growing increasingly frustrated. She tossed her phone aside and watched TV instead.
In her mind, she silently vowed not to reach out to Ayan again. Hmph! She was angry.
As she watched TV, fatigue suddenly washed over her, and just as she was about to drift off, her phone rang.
Picking it up, she answered to hear Ayan’s gentle voice. “Are you going to sleep?”
Camille stayed silent.
“Are you mad? I was really busy earlier and couldn’t find the time. I just got back to the hotel and called you right away. Next time, just call me directly instead of texting, okay?”
He spoke softly, but his expression was anything but gentle.
He had just come out of the restaurant where they had eaten, standing at the entrance while Kian went to get the car.
His serious demeanor clashed sharply with the tenderness in his voice.
Finally, Camille responded, “Are you that busy?”
Ayan replied, “Not really. I’ll be going back tomorrow afternoon.”
“Oh.”
“Is that all? You’re not planning to come pick me up?”
“Mr. Simpson, I’m a worker. Can I really leave my post?” Camille then recalled Jennie’s earlier comments and briefly explained the situation to Ayan. She added coolly, “If Mario wants to make personnel changes, should he consult you about that?”
“I’m just a business partner, not the main person in charge of the project, so he doesn’t need to discuss it with me.”
“Doesn’t that just mean he can easily bring people into the project? If something goes wrong, who will take responsibility?”
Camille asked, her tone neutral.
Ayan chuckled. “That would be Mr. King, of course. After all, he is the main person responsible. If you really don’t like Jennie, I can have a word with him and tell him to remove her.”
“No need for that. I wouldn’t want to be someone who used connections to undermine others.”
She wasn’t about to do that.
Even if Jennie was around, it wouldn’t change much. Camille would only feel a bit uncomfortable seeing her. She had no intention of getting into any real conflict with Jennie. Her main concern was Sienna, but she planned to support Sienna, believing that in time, Sienna would come to terms with it.
Ayan didn’t press the issue. He always let Camille make her own decisions when it came to work.
Camille rarely asked him for anything related to work unless he felt compelled to step in, offering help discreetly, but those instances were few and far between.
Not wanting to continue discussing work, Ayan redirected the conversation back to them.
“Since I’ve been away on business for so long, do you miss me?”
