Agnes quickly took over, “Alright, alright, go ahead.” She began urging him, afraid he would be the last one to enter. Tom glanced to the side; it seemed everyone had almost arrived. At that moment, he picked up the remote from the table and adjusted the room temperature for her.
“Oh, I’m neither cold nor hot, just go.” Agnes was really anxious. She put down her cup and snacks, pushing him gently with her hand. “You can’t be the last one to arrive at a meeting, can you? How bad would that look? You need to make a good impression on the leaders.”
This time Tom didn’t linger. As he walked out, he turned back and reminded her, “If you feel bored, you can use my computer. The password is my birthday.”
“Okay, okay, I know. Go ahead!” The girl responded verbally but had no intention of touching his office computer. This was a research institute, a laboratory! Even going upstairs required passing through multiple security checks; the data inside was invaluable. She was a girl who understood boundaries.
When Agnes sat down at the desk with her cup in hand, she saw through the large glass wall that Tom was indeed the last one to enter. She couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious for him. But when Tom entered the meeting room, everyone applauded and looked at him with admiration. Agnes saw Tom take the lead seat and then realized he was the one leading this meeting; he was the leader.
Through the glass wall, Agnes watched his handsome profile without blinking, observing his graceful demeanor and the charm exuded in his every move. Once again, she was deeply attracted to him. A gentleman of noble character, gentle as jade-these eight words were meant to describe him.
Sitting in his office chair, drinking tea he made and eating snacks he provided while looking through the glass wall at the revered him, she felt very happy. Did she actually win him over? This was something she wouldn’t have dared to imagine before.
At this moment, there was a knock on the open door. Agnes turned her head to see a young and beautiful girl walk in. She also wore a white lab coat and had a name badge hanging on her chest. As she entered, she wore a kind smile and said softly, “Hello.” Her voice was pleasant too.
It was a beautiful face with long straight black hair and lovely dark eyes.
“Hello,” Agnes put down her cup and stood up.
“Are you Professor Fritz’s fiancee?” The girl smiled brightly with clear eyes and asked, “I just heard people talking about it outside and had some time now, so I came to see you.”
Agnes responded with a smile.
The girl extended her hand proactively, “Hello, I’m Zoey Strauss, Tom’s colleague.” She corrected herself.
“Hello,” Agnes felt an inexplicable sense of threat; if she could call him by his first name directly, their relationship must be close. But she still maintained a polite smile as she shook hands with the girl. “I’m Agnes.”
“I mean no harm,” Zoey’s smile remained sweet and kind as she looked at her without blinking. “I just came to see the correct answer; now I see it.”
See the correct answer? Agnes immediately understood what she meant-this girl liked Tom and probably confessed but got rejected. So she thought of herself as the wrong answer.
Her Mr. Kitten had such high standards? He didn’t even fancy such a beautiful girl?
Zoey’s sweet smile remained kind as she looked Agnes up and down with eyes full of blessings and envy.
