The research institute’s experimental building was magnificent, gleaming under the sunlight with an imposing and majestic entrance that immediately conveyed a sense of sanctity. After getting out of the car, Tom, dressed in a black thin long trench coat, extended his hand to the girl. In this unfamiliar environment, he provided her with a sense of security.
Agnes turned her gaze towards him, her eyes falling on his outstretched hand. As she placed her fingers into his palm, a happy smile appeared on her lips. Tom held her hand and led her inside.
Entering the main gate required identity verification. Tom simply used facial recognition, and although Agnes initially intended to step aside, the verification was completed swiftly. The tightly shut glass door opened in response.
Tom held her hand and led her forward. They passed through three doors using facial recognition before finally arriving at the elevator. Tom held her hand with one hand while entering a long password with the other to open the door.
Following him into the elevator, Agnes noticed several cameras installed overhead. She couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous, trying hard to suppress this uneasy feeling and prevent her palms from sweating. She wondered if outsiders were usually not allowed here.
The elevator ascended, and throughout the ride, he held her hand tightly without any conversation, but their hearts felt very close. The elevator stopped on the 15th floor, and as soon as they stepped out, a long and spacious corridor came into view. He led her forward.
To the left, behind glass walls, was a particularly large laboratory with a broad view and a strong sense of technology. As they walked past each lab, Agnes saw one or two or three or four scientists in white coats busily working inside.
The place was eerily quiet. Agnes followed Professor Fritz closely, her eyes never leaving the people behind the glass walls. She felt deep respect for these highly educated individuals who silently dedicated themselves to their work.
At that moment, two men approached from the front. They were also wearing white coats, tall with blue eyes, high noses, and blonde hair. Upon seeing Professor Fritz with a girl, their faces were filled with shock as if they had discovered a new continent-and they were holding hands!
“Professor Fritz, are you in love? Oh my!” One of the men stopped and asked in surprise, his eyes full of amusement as he looked at the girl beside him.
“Yes,” Tom replied, stopping with Agnes still holding his hand tightly. He glanced at the girl beside him and introduced her, “She is my fiancee.”
The two men were almost jaw-dropped but quickly offered their heartfelt congratulations. Agnes could clearly feel their reaction-shock mixed with envy and blessings.
They gave Tom a thumbs-up and exchanged some words before politely greeting Agnes. They seemed very welcoming and fond of her.
Agnes maintained a polite smile throughout.
Tom continued to lead Agnes forward towards his office. Along the way, no matter whom they encountered, Tom would proactively introduce her as “my fiancee.” This gave Agnes an overwhelming sense of security.
She had officially started to enter his world by meeting his friends first.
