Agnes sat in the back seat, her eyes fixed on the blur of lights outside the window. She had no idea where they were going, but the dazzling nightscape kept her distracted. Today was her birthday, and she’d spent most of it feeling disappointed, convinced she wouldn’t see him. But now? The surprise of meeting him tonight was better than any gift. It wasn’t just joy-it was something deeper, something that filled her chest with warmth.
The thought of seeing her Mr. Kitten soon made her lips curl into a smile, her eyes softening with a mix of tenderness and excitement. As the car rolled forward, she suddenly recognized the road-it was the same one they’d taken yesterday. And then, there it was: the giant Ferris wheel, its lights shifting between blue and purple, casting a magical glow over everything. It was breathtaking. She couldn’t resist snapping a few photos with her phone, the beauty of it all calming her restless heart.
Jeffery drove, his eyes flicking to the rearview mirror every now and then. He caught Agnes’s reflection, her face lit up with wonder, and a kind smile spread across his face. Agnes wondered what it would be like to ride the Ferris wheel with him tonight, on her birthday. The idea made her heart skip a beat.
The car slowed as they approached the Ferris wheel, finally coming to a stop near the entrance. Jeffery unbuckled his seatbelt and turned to Agnes with a warm smile. “Miss Campbell, we’re here.”
“Is Tom here?” Agnes asked, her voice eager as she pushed the door open herself. “Thank you. Where is he?”
Jeffery stepped out of the car, his face glowing with happiness. He glanced at the Ferris wheel, then at Agnes. “Miss Campbell, follow me. He’s waiting for you inside.”
Curiosity and anticipation bubbled inside her as she followed him. Was he going to take her on the Ferris wheel? Was this his way of making up for yesterday?
Jeffery led her through the ticket gate, where the staff greeted them with polite smiles but didn’t stop them. Agnes noticed but didn’t ask questions, her focus entirely on finding that familiar figure.
The Ferris wheel slowed to a gentle stop, and then, there he was. Tom stepped out of one of the cabins, dressed in a tailored suit that made him look like he’d stepped out of a dream. His eyes locked onto hers immediately, and he called out, “Bubu!”
Agnes froze, her gaze snapping toward him. Under the blue light, he looked like a prince from a painting, his eyes deep and intense as he walked toward her.
Tom’s face broke into a joyful smile as he closed the distance between them, the evening breeze brushing past them.
“Tom, I’ve brought Miss Campbell here. My task is complete?” Jeffery said, his tone cheerful.
“Thank you,” Tom replied, his eyes never leaving Agnes.
Jeffery handed him the car keys with a grin. “Have fun, and drive safe tonight.”
“Will do. Thanks,” Tom nodded.
Jeffery glanced at the young couple, his smile widening. “Miss Campbell, Tom, I’ll head out now. The night view is beautiful, but I don’t want to be a third wheel.”
Agnes felt a strange mix of embarrassment and sweetness at his words, while Tom remained calm, his gentle smile never wavering.
They watched Jeffery leave, and then Agnes turned back to Tom, who was still staring at her with that intense look. “You look so beautiful tonight,” he said, his voice soft but full of warmth.
